Once again David thank you for the video, I think I have watched all the R10 videos, I am so far in between Rapsodo and R10. You have definitely help me on the journey with the net and mats for sure. Thank you
Great tip David thanks for passing it on...Don't have a Garmin R 10 for I have a Earnest Sports ES 15 that works well an get the spin, but I will try a few balls with the tap to see if I get some better reading.....
Thanks for the video. So when you say, "dot facing forward", do you mean facing towards the screen or facing forward to your club face? Also, I'm new to golf sim world, do you have a video explaining what all the numbers mean and what we should be looking for?
I just tried this and had great results for the most part. I did notice that it didn’t pick up a few shots when I’ve never had that problem with the Garmin before. Also, it seems to struggle with short chips with the tape on the ball. I had a couple of chips with my lob wedge that flew high onto my screen but the software read them as being worm burners. Which is weird because without the tape the garmin always reads my chips correctly
Technically yes but personally I prefer doing ball fittings on the course. Launch and spin play major factors with the way the ball reacts in the natural weather environments. So personally I’d say the best ball fitting you can do of any kind is on course
Great tip! Saves me a lot of money after already spending wayyy too much on accessories for the Garmin unit :) . Are you finding that with the dot and updates, the numbers between Garmin Golf and Awesome golf are similar? Or is Awesome golf still the way to go?
I think that the Garmin golf app is definitely getting a lot better and I find the numbers pretty solid. Sometimes the flight path is a touch off which is where awesome golf is probably better. Also awesome golf you can compare a lot of things in the coaching section 😊
OMG. This is a game changer. If someone hasn’t already asked, I have a big question. My golf simulator will be in my garage below my sons bedroom. Could you test this technique with quiet golf balls? You know the kind that make less noise. I wonder what the result would be
I think this gives the R10 the upper hand over the MLM2Pro. With this hack I can use any ball with the R10. Love it! Also the MLM2pro doesn't show club path data, which is a bit of a let down... AND you have to wait several minutes to see the impact camera videos? That makes that feature useless while practicing. I think I've made my decision. Looks like they already dropped the R10 price in the US by $50 too.
Super video. Does it matter what size the dot is that you cut from the roll? Shape? I assume that you cut the square as small as possible but wanted to ask. Thanks again!
Spin rate is the total spin in the direction of the balls rotation If there is zero side spin, the spin rate and back spin will be the same because the spins are in the same direction If there is significant side spin, the spin rate and back spin will be different I would guess the difference is calculated using a trigonometric or Pythagorean function🤔
Have you tried using a silver ("Heat reflective") spray paint. Silver has the highest Radar return of any metal. It is easy to spray the whole ball and cheap.
Have you tried it with an 'almost' golf ball or how about a swing practise golf ball. Not able to try it myself yet until the snow clears and I can get the net back up in my garden.
@@davidmaxfieldgolf i mean, putting the tape on the almost golf ball and seeing if that works, you, obviously, wouldn't get the same distances but would it read the flight or the spin.
When the ball is resting on the tee or the turf, where should the dot be positioned in relation to the swing path? Do you want the dot pointing away or to you? does it matter?
Hey David, Great content man. I am having a issue with my garmin . Everything reads absolutely perfect. Except the driver . I followed your videos with setup etc . And the driver still reads a little low with distance . Like 20-40 yards Do you have any pointers to help ? I hit into a net at about 10-12 feet outdoors . Thanks again
Hello , I love your video. I'm just bought the R10 and I'm having issues with the distances. All my distances are less by at least 40-50 metres. I got 6ft to net and 6-8 to R10. Can you help. Thanks
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I just received my ProV1x RCT balls in the mail today…unfortunately, the rain from Hurricane Ian will be with us for the next few days here in Virginia Beach, so no hitting for a few days (my setup is outside on my back patio…garage ceiling too low)…
David, I don't know if this will work but if you have a hole punch for paper, see if it's capable of cutting through the tape and if so it may give perfect dots.
I got the metal tape with backing to peel off. Easy to work with. A paper punch does cut perfect dots through the metal tape but it seems more difficult to peel the backing off a round dot.
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Can you name the exact tape and where you got it from. I did see it is Ametalin tape but they have a few different tape products. I'm assuming you got it from bunnings?
Another option to test that I am contemplating is getting metallic auto body paint. I'm thinking I could mask off the same Y that Titleist is using & give it a try.
The club head is already made out of metal. The club head has no problem reflecting the radar waves, so they won't provide any benefit. The stickers on photometric (camera) based systems are there to provide a consistently sized & shaped visual reference for the software to analyze.
You seem to be really close to the screen. I just got the R10, and I thought I needed to be at least 12 feet from the screen. Is that the case? Does it make a difference?
@@davidmaxfieldgolf i might take a walk to the craft supply store and see what they have. what is the key attribute? is it that it reflects? or is just metallic? i use a net so i could potentially do some tests on the weekend. i have been trying to find anyone near me in canada that is selling sleeves of RCT balls, rather than a full dozen so i can test those too. thanks for the great work, and have a good weekend!
The metal dot definitely helps for all Garmin app users. Also I’ve since noticed it seems to make a difference on the wedge spin with awesome golf also.
Hey Garry, checkout my on course test. Even though it’s calculated, it’s spot on 😊 Garmin R10: ON Course with Awesome Golf!! Is It Accurate?? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zfghSr_9rV0.html
@@davidmaxfieldgolf watched all of your videos David , I think on course it can track the ball. I had the issue last week whilst playing,at home I hit draws and hooks on the Garmin using awsome golf and the Garmin app. In reality on the course my fade/slice happens 5/10 times. On the SIM I hit a fade/slice 1/100 shots.
How are you getting a positive angle of attack with a 9 iron?? Your first few shots were all positive attack angles? Even your 7 irons are showing positive angles of attack for the vast majority. That makes no sense.
Yeah that’s a swing flaw of mine at the moment. Hence why they’re going left. Working on it but it’s come from all the rain we’ve had here and trying to nip the ball off the ground to get clean contact off the soggy turf
I go to SimPlay and use their Simulator, not dots, not thousands of dollars out of pocket, and I know all my carry distances. And no fussing with dots either
