I just got one of these Garrard model 408 turntables out of the trash. A lady was throwing out some speakers, two old advents and she gave me also a very old 70's or 80's Pioneer receiver too. I was told all of this stuff had belonged to her father or grandfather. Now it is all part of my speaker, turntable and stereo receiver collection.
you can swap the centre spindle for the normal small type and use it in manual mode . Garrard made some fine sounding turntables that were underrated because of all the bells and whistles of automation
Yeah I have a slightly newer Garrard (model 440m) and I don’t use the dropping feature. I think it could do slight damage to the record grooves over time.
@@jameskroeger3730 Nah, the grooves are actually recessed below the playing surface. About the worst that ever happens is maybe a little scuffing of the label. I've got records that are 50+ years old and were played most of their life using autochangers.
Definitely a Garrard 40B, like the one that I had in high school. The shipping screws are locked in this video. They're supposed to be down to release the springs.
