Great interviewing by Joe Maxwell. "Any trick from your Magic Castle act would have been a contender for Fool Us" (paraphrased from Penn) has to be the strongest review a magician can get. The level of astonishment you create may not be ready for the internet. But keep it coming.

Very good interview and an amazing performance! After looking at the performance a couple of times I think I figured out that it actually (in a way) was the solid ring that created the illusion that fooled Teller and that is a very clever method you came up with! Also of course the amazing sleight of hand that builds this trick, pure skill!

It was a great illusion, I have enjoyed every moment of it. I think it really does not rely on a gimmick ring that comes apart and then rejoins perfectly. So, when you said "that's not it" on the stage, you were telling the truth. I have a working theory that involves more than one ring of which one that doesn't come apart and one that doesn't join.

Hey Garrett, big fan of your channel and loved the performance on FU. I was wondering, do you remember what the trick was that you performed for Chris Ramsey, Spidey, et al. in Montreal for a video about 3 years ago? I’m so curious what it was b/c it wasn’t shown in the video + spidey said it was the best trick ever in terms of structure

Possibly, but Penn and Teller asked him directly if he used a gimmick ring. His answer was no. It's slight of hand, obviously, but upon rewatching his hands... He sells the trick btw... It looks more like great dexterity than a gimmick. There are more ways to pick up objects than just with fingertips, and I'm sure he also prefers close up more to control angles than larger crowds.

I agree with everyone saying that this a great interview. The behind the scenes and edited scenes is just amazing. The revealation that Penn saw your act a week before and he was still fooled is beyond comprehension. And the story that Penn stood you up after your act in the Magic Castle is beyond words. Thank you also for telling us your experienced on what we did not see on live television. You are just amazing and I wish you will be back in Fool Us, FOOLER!!!!

@@MentalMagicYT please return to Fool Us on Season 8. Your sleight of hand even fooled Teller. You will certainly performed on Season 8 Episode 1 where previous foolers performed. Btw Penn is a class act when he praised you the moment he saw you on stage of Fool Us and he liked your wallet trick (can you send me a linked of this trick, if it is on youtube)
@MentalMagicYT

@@mendozajovy Sadly the trick that Penn is speaking of, probably can never be recorded as the actual effect is that you can’t accurately recall what even occurs I created a moment that makes people lose time. And if it is ever recorded it defeats the purpose of the effect. So it is something special that someone has to see live, but I’m sure many people here on RU-vid have seen it, and can comment on it.

Garrett is damn amazing. Not trying to take anything away from him BUT I still the best “real magic” was Richard Turner. He even made a point to not call it “magic” he referred to himself as a “card mechanic” which may be a very thin line depending on the trick but yea…Garrett is the only other magician besides Richard Turner that compelled me to do hours of research & have those routines in my mind for over a week. Here & there it’ll pop up in my mind & I thing “hmmm, did he do this?”

From the sound of it, it sounds like Penn and Teller hear from the judges whether they're right or not before the performer tells them if they're right or not. Am I right or not?
@thehandleisuseless
@thehandleisuseless 3 года назад
Well yes and no. But at the end of the question you can see how Penn double asked him to be honest and he will trust what he says above of what anyone else knows. Now if you talk about semantics you can see if he lied or not. The ring he had there was not tricked. However the other clone ring in his pocket was. So yeah, lied
@matthewharris-levesque5809

@@thehandleisuseless No. It's possible to do this trick - only if you're really good - without a "latched" ring. Penn specifically identified that he believed the trick was done with a latched ring or one that could "come apart" using some sort of trigger. This trick - if you're good like this guy - can actually be done with solid state equipment. There is absolutely a method here that fooled the guys. And you too, it seems.

I know this is old but you had 2 identical rings that you swapped out right? Still your sleight of hand is incredible. I did searching. I was close. I won't say what it is but I'm happy I was close. I originally thought what it actually is, but thought that would fall under the term gimmicked ring but I guess the wording about the exact specific thing he was talking about wasn't specific enough. Plus he thought it was only one ring that was mechanically able to come apart if you knew how to do it. I am happy to say though that I figured it out exactly before someone who bought the trick said how to do it.

Thomas Garrett, I am a bit confused about your show: BESIDE it was very well performed and with a very, very nice atmosphere, I am not so sure if it was new and why Teller didn't know it. Except one move 90% what I saw my 15 years old sister showed me in the 1980ies and she was not a trained magician, just had it seen from a magician in her school or so. (Well, we surely couldn't perform it so 100% perfectly, that even no expert wouldn't have been able to follow with his eyes, and without the certain , but we did the principles just like that.) By the way, I disregard at the fool us show, that they have cameras from many angles, angles, that are not only like the views of the spectators, that ruins a bit the dream. However, I loved everything you did and said and am still enchanted because the style and the layout of the performance is PURE MAGICIAN.
