Not all vets are deserving of support. I can name you a few vets who served in the last 10 years who are utter pieces of s**t. My town's local "Animal Control Officer" is one, she got out of the service and took up this job and thinks she has the authority to order people around, no really, she had literally stopped people and demanded to see their dog's vaccination papers like it was Nazi f**king Germany and she was the Gestapo. The b***h even came up into my back yard and tried to open my kennel to let my dogs out so she could pick them up and charge me a fine to get them back. Another one works for the city, his job is to mow un-mowed lawns that the city then fines you for. The equipment is maintained and fuel by a fee tacked onto the water bill every month. He uses that city equipment and tax dollars to mow his own lawn. The 3rd one is an a$$hole who got a dishonorable discharge because he had a serious issue with authority figures telling him what to do. F**ker will literally trespass on your property and get verbally aggressive with you when you tell him he can't be there and needs to leave.

True, but if someone is standing there thanking you for your service it stands to reason that they are supportive and generally appreciative. Maybe they have a link to one of those unsupported generations and they aren’t going to let that stand. Just a thought.

You gotta get creative with shifts like that, we would just send people to the chow hall in rotations while we were technically "on the clock" at least an hour (usually more) of my 12 hour shift was spent hitting up the chow hall and the PX. Granted you're not hourly in the military anyway, so it's not like you're doing anything wrong as long as your supervisor isn't a complete asshat and knows people need to eat. If your leadership won't let you go get chow when it's available, or have it brought to you, they're failing as leaders. Now if it's the night shift and there's no night shift DFAC that's an issue, but that's something again leadership should send up the chain and at a minimum get MRE supply authorized so you at least have the *option* of eating food provided by the army (even if it's an MRE every freaking night).

That's what I say when I have to wear my uniform in public, too. It's easier than trying to explain Civil Air Patrol to people who have no idea what "civilian auxiliary" means. Yes, I technically am part of the Air Force. Yes, I wear Air Force uniforms. No, I am not active military. No, I am not reserve military. No, I am not National Guard.
