Geeni Wifi Smart Plug Outlet "Dots" - REVIEW and How To
A convenient way to control lights and appliances remotely without having to update outlets and switches with hardwired smart devices. These Dots (previously marketed as Spots), plug into a standard outlet. In this video I share my thoughts and opinions as well as demonstrate how to connect the Dots to a wifi network and use the schedule and timer features.
Geeni Smart Dot - I got these from The Home Depot.

Great review really helpful especially when showing both plugs won't fit in one outlet, thanks.

Great video very well done. Graphics and camera work and voice-over all great. Easy to watch and listen to but..... I just gotta say it's a little weird looking at a headless torso! Thanks for the good job. My Geeni Dots or Spots should arrive tomorrow.

I have several dots in my kitchen that control LED lighting (undercounter and inside cabinets and closets). I do have Alexa in the kitchen, so I use voice control to turn the lights on and off. This is super handy when I have wet or dirty hands or I am carrying something with both hands. LOVE them! ❤

excellent review! I did get recently several of the Geeni products - started out with 2 Smart Dots (to try out what this is about, LOL), then got a LOOK camera, then went on to buy a 2nd camera, then a Mini Surge protector (3 outlets), and a LUX 800 light bulb. I must say that I am blown away by the simplicity of the installation and use of these "electronic toys", as I call them. There are so many options for the cameras, I do not continuously record, just on motion detection with recording on the SD card with alerts. So, the motion detection in the entrance area will be switched only on by me when I leave the house and at night, and switched off whenever I enter or get up in the morning. No "burning through SD cards", as many people write in some rewiews, who most likely record 24/7 without really needing it. Plus, viewing and deleting is also uncomplicated. What I love is that in case I get a notification about mo-det., I can record or screenshot directly on my memory card of my phone..AND also TALK to the person at the entrance!!!! I just LOOOOVE what modern technic makes possible. I am a retired female with a busy lifestyle (hiking, camping, being lots not home), no garage, so when I am not home, the neighbor knows that I am gone.. with one shady neighbor in the immediate neighborhood with lots of scruffy people coming/going), so with my 2 cameras I feel now much safer, don't worry all the time when I am gone. The only thing that confused me was the TIMER... which you made clear for me in this video how to do it. Everything is set to my satisfaction, thank you, Bruce!

Very welcome. We have also expanded our system Geeni system to include cameras. The only one I don’t recommend is the one that is completely wireless and runs on a rechargeable battery (so completely wireless). Unfortunately the battery life is terrible and worse when temperatures are below freezing.

You can use an OFF timer as well, but the plug has to be ON for it to enable the TIMER OFF function. You can also ask your smart assistant (google home or Alexa) to turn off in X amount of time, If you linked your geenie account to it

I was going to say, I use that app to turn off my living room lamps after I go to bed. But the light are always ON when i set the timer. We have to be smarter than the device LOL
@briankendall1978
@briankendall1978 Год назад
AP mode i think means Access point mode. The device creates its own access point which then the app can connect to and configure the device for your home network correctly. That was why you made changes to the Wifi setting on your phone to see the device.

We have a few of there items at home its been ok but if the wifi is down for too long you might need to rediscover items.

Thanks for sharing that. We haven’t had that issue. I also have a few iHome cameras that use the App, and I’m less pleased with the Geeni interface compared to other cameras we have.

Does this work as a way to notify you if there is a power outage while you are out of town? Ex) freezer plugged into a geeni so you are notified if it loses power in an outage
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 6 месяцев назад
There is an Offline notification option, but I haven’t tried it.

my app looks different, There is no SAVE in top right. Only options I have when trying to set schedule is Cancel Countdown timer and Add a Schedule. So I cannot save a schedule.
@BruceAlanR

It would appear the last software update messed up the scheduling screen. I used the app to submit feedback along with a pic of the issue. Hopefully they will fix it soon. 🙄

@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 года назад
Is power flicker on and off or do you mean the blue light on the side is flashing? If you have any schedules or timers set, try erasing them.

Does the plug alert you to power out or unplug of both product, and / or connected appliance. I have a roommate that screws with plugs and then “I don’t know”. So I want to be able to point out the product has been unplugged and plug it back in when leaving.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 2 года назад
In the app you can turn on “Offline Notifications” to get an alert when the Dot is offline/unplugged. If someone doesn’t unplug the Dot, but only unplugs the appliances plugged into it, you wouldn’t get a notification however.

Whats the difference between the "spots" and the "dots"?
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 года назад
From what I researched, they’re identical. I believe the dot label came out first followed by spots. Wait... spots came first, then dots. Either way they’re the same.

@@BruceAlanR ohh ok, thanks for the answer. i might go with the parent companies verision(merkury inovations) that you can fit 2 in a outlet. already have 3 of them and they are cheaper!
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 года назад
Good advice! I’ll have to check out the outlets by Mercury innovations. Thanks!
@omgsomeoneactually3926
@omgsomeoneactually3926 3 года назад
@@BruceAlanR yeah, it does get confusing sometimes because you fidn the parent company at walmart and it uses the sibling companies app(geeni). they do the same thing. I really would just advertise merkury and geeni to combine so it aint so confusing lol.
@BruceAlanR

To confirm my answer regarding dots vs spots, I posted your question to the Home Depot Q&A section (on the Geeni Dot product page) and someone from Geeni responded. Here’s what they posted: “They are both the same functionality and power ratings. It's just that the Geeni smart dot is improved in terms of appearance and much [more] affordable than the Geeni smart spot.” So... there you go. It’s interesting and sometimes frustrating how common it is to find the exact same products rebranded and sold by different retailers these days. It’s like mattress shopping... only for basic devices. How can any company build a standout brand that way? I purchased some lighting cords on Amazon a few weeks ago and a week later I went to return it. By then the “company” (which was likely some guy in a room with a website ordering products from China) had evaporated. Ha! So much for that 3 year warranty that came with the product.
