Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Gen V Episode 5.

Last week made you tek yaself before you wrecked yourself and this week starts to unveil the whole truth. The entry gives us some answers about what's going on while also throwing a couple curveballs our way. Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down the easter eggs, hidden details and also talking about that ending to discuss where things could be going for episode 6 next week.

With that out the way, thank you for clicking this, now let's get into Gen V Episode 5.

So we pick up immediately after last week in which we saw Sam going wild at Dr Cordosas. Just before things were about to mount up we watched as they pulled a Wandavision and cut out a scene. I actually think there's some Wanda inspired stuff happening in this entry and we may also have A Jean Gray-Esque arc happening with Cate.
Even in the opening recap they change things up and actually mess about with reality with what Marie said.

I think Cate is the one that knocked everyone out at the end tbh, I think she’s also part of the reason why Sam is in the woods and why Luke believed he died. She’s also tried to stop Andre at every turn from investigating this. We learn she dropped crime fighting to be Luke’s manager, maybe she was manipulated by the dean or vought and convinced that the best thing for Luke’s career and sams health is to keep him locked up as a secret (mostly cause they don’t know how to kill him it seems) as having a murderous brother with schizophrenia would be a little problematic for golden boys image.

They def could have killed Sam if they wanted to. They easily were able to cause him pain while hammering a needle into his spine. I think sam has something to do with knocking everyone out.

I don’t think that’ll be it, but something definitely close. Though I don’t think Cate will be the bad guy, we saw in one of the trailers that should teleported out of nowhere even though she can only mind control people

I think this is a very strong theory with no currently available alternative. Cate's power is the only thing that would explain everything. One major proof that he had changed Luke's memory is that he remembered Sam as a child instead of an teenager, meaning that that is the most recent memory he has of Sam. I have a feeling that we will find out that the gloves don't stop her powers, and it is just a long con so no one even knows how much she is controlling people. Especially with how Sam calls everyone puppets

Now that I think back to it, all those times he picked up items with holes, I thought he was investigating Golden Boy's death, when really he was just looking at every hole he wanted to screw.

@@powpowouchy5 he’s whipping it out on a college campus and “violating” every circular object he sees. The impulse to do so is derived from the tumor, but it’s clearly behavior he’s choosing to engage in instead of a compulsion (otherwise he wouldn’t only do it when he was alone). There’s this phrase in therapy: “it explains it but it doesn’t excuse it”

I like the show, but some of the gore and male eroticism, or the two in conjunction, is just pointless or just more for shock and awe. I know by this point that gratuitous gore is a staple in "The Boys" universe, but c'mon. The exploding 🍆 scene, was just so random, and handled like it was no big deal. Also, didn't Cate "push" Rufus aka Mr. 🍆💥 to perpetually hit himself in the 🫐 with a baseball bat, while chanting something? 🤷🏾‍♂️

I'm a huge fan of Future Man and I didn't recognize Derek Wilson at all. He was PERFECT as Tek Knight. The main series has drifted so far from the comics I wasn't ready for this loyal an adaptation

I was surprised by how much I liked Jordan. I don’t really agree with trans irl, but hes more of a natural one that can swap between with ease. A very compelling character for me and I can understand how hard it would be for him to be accepted

The show is surprisingly good. Emma is such a great character, she seems genuinely nice. I do hope they explain how she turned into giant man. Was she just stuffing her face while they're outside fighting? I'm surprised Tek Knight was able to be blackmailed, he seemed like the type that would just kill her. There's a similarity between Sam's delusions and Black Noire. I'm curious to find out if Jordan has one personality, or two distinct ones.

Emma did explain that by puking she gets small and if she doesn't eat. It means that she probably over ate the food at the dinner table , so to get big immediately. Her power isn't just shrinking, probably changing sizes.

Sam’s delusions make him hostile and extremely violent and Noir’s seem to be the only thing keeping him sane lol also yes there was a shot of Emma stuffing her face with the spaghetti to get big

I was thinking that they say shes one of the most powerful supes, but shes not that strong if you dont let her get close. What if shes more like Allison from umbrella academy, contact doesnt matter only voice

But she's genuinely just a good, caring person. Kind of a fresh breath of air if you ask me. I really hope they don't twist it into her being the bad one all along or something

The guy who plays Tek Knight is named Derek Wilson. He played Wolf in Future Man. He was great in it, and the entire show is incredible, if you haven't seen it. It goes without saying that if there's a Cory Hart reference involving Tek Knight, I'm gonna lose my sh*t. No rathole to rathole.

I think that Rufus is behind the memory loss, Episode 6 is titled 'Jumanji' which is what Cate told him to say when he smashed his nuts in Episode 2. That also shows how powerful Cate is since she was doing that to a sup with Psychic power.

The theory about the Woods having something to do with taking down Supes is interesting, but I was thinking there’s one issue: Ashley seems pretty involved with the Woods, and there’s no way Ashley would be able to hide something like that from Homelander or the 7. Ashley is constantly with Homelander and he can overhear everything in the tower anyway, so I think if they were developing something that could hurt supes, I don’t think they’d be able to involve someone like Ashley, or anyone who Homelander actually knows for that matter tbh

The more boring answer to the woods might just be that it is part of V reseacrh. After all they have been trying to stabilize it to work on adults and even creating temporary V. Not to mention the scene with Sam could have been just them extracting spinal fluid or just straight up torture

The theory I've seen around that I really like is that they are trying to isolate the actual powers from the supes in the Woods so they can have each power available to use on soldiers or even sell them.

PLEASE don't use video with motion interpolation (Soap Opera mode), that stuff gives me a headache and I wasn't able to watch the vid, gonna have to go to ScreenCrush. I thought I had bumped my remote and turned on Action Clarity , but nope and this is the only video doing it, so it is definitely your vid. I do watch RU-vid on my actual TV, so it is probably a lot more noticeable vs someone on a phone or tablet, but I can't be the only one watching on a larger screen... my eyes are still confused

Great episode and I also caught something in what Tek Knight said in calling the dean ‘only a human’. It’s like something that has been slowly building up since Season 1 where the Supes see themselves as a superior race to normal humans. Like how Homelander congratulated Victoria for going against Edgar by saying that stood with her ‘own kind’, or back in Season 1 where Homelander raged at Starkight for helping Huggies and the Boys and calling them ‘mud-people’, or how in Season 3 Homelander had the Deep run Crime Analytics just because he is a Supe and not for being qualified for the job. This feels like it is ultimately culminating in what happened in the comics (Spoilers): where Homelander will try to take over the country with all the Supes by the appealing to their god-like personas and egos as better than humans and they should be naturally worshipped and running the world not being what amounts to jesters and show ponies. And if they do carry over this idea of de-powering Supes and even killing them, I wonder if Vought will convince Butcher to activate some ‘Clean Slate’ protocol that would kill all the Supes like the comics, but then struggles to do so when realizing that it might kill Ryan.

11:13, Rufus previously demonstrated pretty high durability in his groin area when he was hypnotized into repeatedly striking it for an unknown period of time. As various supes featured also have similarly high endurance to withstand more pain and survive critical injuries more easily than “civvies”, there is still the possibility that Rufus could also have survived (which if he did would make him a potentially highly deadly antagonist for the main group, or at least Marie, looking to avenge his blown up genitals).

The Boys is better. WHy whould Marie did not just stop Sam Blood to stop him if he can blow-up Rufus's D????? Bad choice of direction of showing power compared to the Boys that just do what logical to do with your Power

This guy, Derek Wilson, was great in Preacher, and 100% unforgettable in Future Man. I was so psyched to see him in this as Tek Knight, and was not surprised to see him just totally nail this character. What a great character actor this guy has been in everything I’ve seen him in. I’m surprised you didn’t recognize him from anything else. So, the moral of this comment, is to go watch Future Man. His performance alone makes it worth the watch.

Season 1, Episode 6, one of the ladies in the group talk butcher takes hughie to talks about how she wishes Tek Knight was more careful with her spine and she’s in a wheel chair. Mid rewatch and happened to catch it, thought it was worth mentioning!

I think Cate is definitely one of the big villains. On surface she has appeared to be the voice of reason so far. In this world that’s a red flag. I think she gave Luke the visions. She claimed to not know about Sam but obviously she knocked Sam out at one point. She clearly knocked Marie and the gang out too at the end of last episode. And she did the deal with her boyfriends best friend. The little details point towards a big revelation coming soon

Yep also interesting note as soon as Emma touches Marie Cate disappears from the kitchen they also focus in on her grabbing Maire then suddenly Emma can grow big a power she never once mentioned

Her growing big was mentioned several times, and her mother even brought a measuring tape when we first meet her to make sure Emma was the "correct size". This was foreshadowed and not unexpected as she has a similar power set to that of Antman or Wasp @@Rex-X-Dark

I also think it’s Cate who did the blackout - correct me if I’m wrong but when she was telling the origin of how she discovered her power, she SAID to her brother to go away and never come back (didn’t mention she TOUCHED him - as she’s lead us to believe how her power works). Too many circumstances where she’s there but seems to be unaccounted for - I.e at the Dr’s house when she just disappeared.

The Stardust Drive-in, where they filmed the drive-in scenes and which was the logo on Emma's shirt, is a nice easter egg for the Canadians who watch and work on the show. So many great memories going to watch films at that Drive-in growing up, especially Signs.... basically the Drive-in was surrounded by corn fields in the early 2000's.

Gen V keeps getting better plus I love The Boys Universe so for Gen V episode 4 was really great it builds off the episodes including all the characters coming together to in the final scene in episode for everyone coming clean about how they feel is really good as well I can’t wait for more Gen V and The Boys. Btw Tek Knight was fkin awesome loved him in the comics as well.

17:49 I actually think Cate is the one that knocked them all out at the end of the episode. Cate feels like a plant to me, always dating whomever is #1. In the same way Batman's villains mirror him, Cate has a parallel backstory to Marie. Both their powers killed family members and Dean Shetty is offering each of them the mothering acceptance they've been missing. Cate accepted the deal that Marie will ultimately refuse.

After rewatching the four episodes (because I cooked some of it) I noticed that Cate had bloodshot eyes during the Gala event. She was Mia most of the episode until she showed up and both of her eyes were bloody. That being said, who was she controlling (pushing)? My initial thought was that someone at the event is being manipulated by her, however, it’s more likely that she ran into someone before going. The obvious answer to episode 4 is that Cate is in on “the woods.” she was defending Andre’s dad when Andre told her that his dad knew about it. It was odd because she almost quoted his dad twice instead of being surprised. I feel like she’s innocent and is setting up a misdirection or a good ole bait and switch. No clue though.

I really think you should eclipse NR soon…and should’ve from the start, they just seemed to invest back into the channel more, which actually caused burnout from consumers as there is only so much we care to know about marvel movies lol. It's cate who probably knocked everyone out because Sam said out loud that he's not letting cate touch him again...this exposed cate infront of everyone..so she probably had no other choice...as you said a supes power could get amplified at time of heavy stress and so Sam outing her out may have caused her to stress out and in a way she could have managed to increase her energy so that she could brain wash everyone even without touching them...cate is often shown as someone who recklessly trys to push her power more..hence the eye bleeds...it makes sense to me

Jordan being able to stand toe to toe with Golden Boy had me puzzled if their powers were only body morphing. It didn't make sense. They have to have more powers than that. And that was confirmed in this episode with her/him creating a field or force to knock sam into the garden. It would make sense that he/she has telekinesis and or molecular manipulation. But not true molecular manipulation like the girl from Invincible. But rather like Vision from Marvel. Let me know your thoughts. I found it interesting that this video didn't touch on that.

They have two sets of powers, one for each gender, as well as the power to change at will. The male form is super durable which we see in this episode when he takes Sam's punches, and also episode 1 when Brink shoots them. The female form has some sort of energy/Jedi force like power, again shown in both this episode and in the first in the fight against Golden Boy.
