Soon after learning that AJ was driving the night of Jason's accident, Alan physically attacks his firstborn. Luckily, Monica's there to stop him from killing him.
Alan only saw the error of his ways and supported AJ when he found Michael was AJ's son. He hardly supported AJ at all before that. This goes way before AJ's issues with alcohol and Jason's head injury. A part of Alan always blamed AJ for his mother's affair with Rick Webber. When AJ was born, there was speculation on whether he was truly Alan's son or Rick Webber's which was later proven that Alan was the father. To him, AJ was constant reminder of that so he took it out on AJ
Plus Tracy never missed an opportunity - even in the mid-2000's - to remind Alan about Rick adn AJ. During Lila's memorial Tracy put doubt into Alan's head. Alan was tough on AJ but at least Alan admitted early on how spending that first year in doubt made it difficult for him to love AJ. But AJ's lying and teen drinking didn't help. I think AJ got a bum wrap - but it wasn't all Alan's fault. Yes, Monica started the trouble. She should have worked harder to bring her men back together.
Jason never bowed to anyone - as Morgen NOR as Quartermaine. Jason was always independent - especially as a teenager before his accident. He was a voice of reason. What changed was his anger. Alan had been supper supportive of Jason being his own man against the Qs. Both he AND Monica wanted Jason to be a doctor. And - as CAM and I debated, they should have let go of their dreams for Jason sooner - and accepted that he was what he was - even if it caused harm to him and those he loved.
The Q's knew that AJ was an alcoholic yet they always had a fully stocked bar. Even though he was drinking water here they should still have it elsewhere.
Edward caused a load of harm within his family with his need for family competition and constantly arguing. But, Edward's the first AND the second were funny as hell doing so. I was watching the Monica cancer storyline yesterday - and there is so much to be learned about all of them there - but mostly I laughed out loud constantly because of the Edward character. He even messed with poor Lucky - trying to get him to neuter his dog to get the puppy promised by Lila. Edward had no shame.
True. I think they always blamed aj for the accident. Jason should not have jumped in the car & honestly it's a tragedy. I'm not in any way blaming jason but he had just ripped Aj a new one that he was done enabling him. The rest of the family made it worse however. Edward came in screaning aj was a drunken bum. Alan went off on him. Aj went to go upstairs to sleep it off & Alan told him to get out. The qs didn't help at all. What they should have done was had an intervention. Told him it was rehab or else. They needed to give him tough love instead of attacking him. Jason as I said had the right idea saying he wasn't gonna enable him anymore. Sadly had the stupid convertible w/ keys in the car not been sitting outside in winter nothing would have happened. I hated how Alan called Aj weak. Ajs response was perfect " I'm not weak I'm sick " absolutely. Sadly just when aj moved out & got sober hurricane Carly came around. Both got wasted & had a one night stand. It's sad b/c Carly really liked aj & he liked her a lot too. Sadly his new 12 step " don't judge others " shouldn't have applied to Carly. Carly was a pure pychotic. She lied all the time caused trouble where she didn't have to & the irony is Jason q wouldn't enable aj but Jason m enabled Carly & it wound up destroying micheals childhood . Another irony Micheal got on the straight & arrow as a young adult when he moved to the q mansion & worked at elq. I think with so many q's gone I found it amazing Micheal did really well when Tracey became his mother figure. I have to say Tracey was such a great mom figure to everyone. Ned & Dillon seemed OK. She was a mother to lulu when Laura was catatonic for years. She really became the glue to her step kids w/ Luke. I think aj never had a chance. Tracey b/c of her bitterness that Alan's son was the heir made her lash at aj. Ned as well b/c he was not the male heir of Alan. Edward was very much like Asa on oltl in that only the males counted & so did their male heirs. Then throw in Alan thinking aj was Monica's son w/ Rick webber & I think he never bonded w/ aj. Take Jason. He was the son of Alan's mistress Susan. So he always knew jason was his. Then Monica was being so ridiculous about baby jason
Poor Monica. Poor Alan. Poor AJ. But far better than AJ's end, when he asks Monica to love him just enough not to call the mob on him, and then shoots Alan in the back. Shudder.

Poor aj just wanted someone to believe in him. That's why alan Edward ned hated aj bc they thought he was weak. Jason q was the only one who loved him unconditionally he always had ajs back. The nail in the coffin was him " killing jason q" but jason was the dope who jumped into a convertible without a seat belt I get he wanted to help aj but what was he supposed to do while aj was driving drunk . Monica the worst thing to say to ur child is " what did I do wrong " basically saying he turned out a loser. Boy I hated carson for ripping michael away from his dad they did a bang up job like Tracey said he wasnt going to turn out a choir boy. He was shot in the head and killed his thug dad s mistress and got raped in jail. I believe ajs good Gene's shine through in Michael's DNA bc hes nothing like carson . Morgan was a mess. Kristina is a mess with no direction Dante is normal bc sonny never raised him poor avery . I loved when michael took her away and called her aj but of course they had Michael run back to sonny. Morgan was a dick and I'm not sure how his death was Ava s fault from what I heard
Monica's asking "what did she do wrong" is the most hypocritical statement ever uttered! Alan was no jerk! Alan was the most supportive person in every other aspect - including supporting AJ with Michael when no one else would. But, Monica gutted him early in their marriage..with her lie to get Rick Webber. Jeff Webber tried suicide, Alan nearly self destructed and Leslie (and Laura) suffered horribly because Monica had to have Rick. The above happened because of HER - not Alan.
This proves that it was Alan and Monica , Edward that made aj crazy because all of them put aj and jason against one another , Alan should have handle this a lot better than he did because all this proves to aj is that he loves Jason more.
This guy has been running away since he was a kid feeling like he was never good enough now CarSon did not help the cause but the Q's start it and I think that's why Carly did want Michael there because of how often A.J told her about his childhood
Exactly because A.J problems started way before Carson came around and I hate how the Quartemaines neglect to realize that they played a part in A.J issue I scene a clip where A.J said he started drinking at 12 years old like seriously at 12 years old he was being compared to Jason because Jason was studious and A.J got bad grades and his parents and Edward would berate him really and they wonder why Carly did not Michael around everybody forgets that the Q's have digress only in they last what 8 years that where controlling'band belittling if youndidnt live how they wanted you to live . its a cop out to blame all of A.M's problems on CarSon
AJ was an early problem child that made it tough on Alan and Monica. I see clips in 1988 when they first show AJ running away from boarding school - he came home - but no Jason as the writers claim that he was happy there. Then the drinking, lying and partying, and AJ was rude to Jason early on. Plus, he was quick to jump on Alan and blame him for his parents problems in their marriage. There's an early clip when even Monica had to correct AJ and tell him that all was not Alan's fault. Plus...
I disagree that AJ was a "problem child." I think that term is too black and white. And you're making it sound like AJ was always rude to Jason. He wasn't. AJ was looking for answers, to know if he really belonged. IMO, neither Q son belonged at military school. Kudos to AJ for running away, he was better off, it wasn't right for him, and the Qs were not better off with the other son who did finish military school. Such naivete. They trained a killer. Talk about a problem child.

Yeah.....but wasn't Allan was such a great father.....everyone boasted about how he loved PJ so much.....but Allans loved was contingent on how PJ behaved, if he was or was not drinking and what he brought to the table....that was not love.
@Rain89Sweed Even Monica. He should've turned out to be Rick's. And then Rick could've lovingly raised him with Lesley and proved Monica "unfit" because Alan and Monica were unfit...just like Victor and Nikki!
. A J should have left that house a long time. ago. Alan did not have a good track record helping his sons when they needed him. He was so wrapped up in his own pain, he never saw their pain.
I know it’s absolutely horrendous what AJs drinking has caused but my god no one truly cares about him and it’s incredibly sad 😭 Monica and Keesha have tried but that’s about it😢
I've been watching GH for 45years now and I remember everything Carlybabes is the worst thing that ever happened in the history of GH!! Carlybabes ruined everything for everyone she was always a hater love Sonny and Brenda True love no one compares to them Real Talk 💯 Love the Quartermaine's without Carlybabes and Michael they were better without Carlybabes she destroyed her mother marriage she slept with her mother husband Tony Jones had an affair with AJ slept with his brother Jason slept with Jason BFF Sonny she was forced on Sonny from the beginning 2023 gh needs to get rid of Carlybabes character for good
