Genshin has a huge cast and yet none of our beloved characters are actually in the world itself which I think is a shame!

Maybe it's done on purpose?... maybe Teyvat is actually empty, and the people that we've met are just the manifested memories from the Irminsul, recycled and repeated. No wonder many NPCs look the same, and the main characters are nowhere to be seen.

Dude this video detailed exactly what I've been thinking for years. And I'm shocked this is the only video I've seen talk about it. There's so much potential of having characters show up in the overworld and just *existing.* I guarantee fans of said characters would login everyday just for a chance to see them. Hell- if it was the characters who were giving commissions, guarantee that more players will actually do them. Mondstadt quests kind of did this. There's that one commission where you have to collect Mona's rent and *sometimes* you'll find her. As a Mona-simp, I actually enjoy this commission. There's also that one commission where you can randomly find Fischl and Bennett doing a mission together. I don't know why they stopped doing that for anything else. It's like they had the idea and forgot about it. Hell, imagine a schedule system! Certain characters only showing up in certain places on certain days. Xiao can occasionally be found at the inn. Wanderer can occasionally be found doing something for Nahida. Yae Miko can occasionally ve found at the shrine. Neuvilette can occasionally be found outside his office. Etc. These interactions don't event have to be voiced. I just want Genshin's world to feel more "lived in" with characters that we actually know.

ooo i dont think ive gotten that mona commission before that sounds cool I know some are REALLY hidden in the world but thats such a same. I agree id be really nice if we could really live with the characters in the world. hopefully one day!

It would also be really cool if during the characters birthday, in the note they invite you somewhere and they’d actually be there. Or maybe it could be some mini event for that specific character. I feel like that would make the world more livelier as well.

I know you're talking about characters, but in terms of how empty the world can feel, even just having npc's be more vibrant like they have their own lives and schedules, you see them out in the wild etc would add a ton to the game as well!

Yes yes yes, I've been asking for this for forever! It's one of my most wanted features for sure! It baffles me that they have all of these amazing playable characters, but just never use them. It's such wasted potential. There are a few commissions that use playable characters, but that's few and far between. (There's one with Mona, one with Fischl and Bennett, and one with Xinagling. The Xiangling one has a lot of requirements and you have to go out of your way to find her. It's totally possible to miss her. There's also one with Xiao that's like the Xiangling one where you can miss him completely.) I'd also love if world quests used playable characters too. Everyone has fallen in love with Jeht and asking for her to be playable. Imagine if that was quest had a playable character instead of an NPC. Zhiqiong in The Chasm is one of my favorite characters in the game, yet she's a generic looking adventurer NPC. I'd 100% pull for her if she was playable.

Jeht's story and character is so wasted because they used a generic enemy sprite 😫 It would've been amazing if she was recruitable but it would be extremely weird if they kept her model the same. The only alternative would be to redesign Jeht and handwaved her new appearance as some makeover/product of character development that only happens when you finish her quests. It's a shame how much World Quests are dominated by slightly tweaked NPC models. That are not even voiced. Cause we spend more time with those quests than most AQs and IQs. Imagine if we did have recruitable characters that premiered in WQs. I would be way more invested.

Yea those commissions are incredibly rare which is so stupid. I know they want them to feel eventful but you have to get lucky to encounter them. It sucks that Mihoyo wont convert NPCS to playable characters especially if they have the design for it. Id say maybe down the road...but i kinda doubt it. It would bring in revenue tho :)

I genuinely thought this video was going to cover how the world feels dead since NPCs feel like cardboard cutouts either just standing in place or walking on a cycle, in other words, not dynamic whatsoever. There's also the immersion-shattering fact that NPCs and animals just disappear out of existence when the day ends or when running away from you, respectively. But nope, it's just about how playable characters aren't present somewhere in the world, which is still a problem but I don't think it's as important as what I said above.

I agree with you, genshin lacking familiar face in over world, those other npcs we don't give a damn. Kinda strange bcs we can have other characters appear in teapot that kinda similar feature already exist in the game but they don't make it for open world.

this actually reminds me of something that Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver had in their post game! You could meet and talk with the different gym leaders who'd show up in specific locations on certain days throughout Johto and Kanto. You could even have a chance at battling them again with stronger rosters. And Genshin could do this too! Let's say each character shows up in a specific location every other day and these would rotate. You could even pair this along with their talent materials which rotate two times a week

My guess is they don't want to place playable characters in the world so people can use their versions of the characters and take pictures of them. It's hard to take a picture of Neuvillette in his office if there's a static version of him 2 meters away. It probably also uses up resources on low end devices having to load them in. This is probably why HSR, a way smaller game, is able to have them around. You can't add in a feature this big for a select group of people. They have to keep this game running on everything and adding in stuff must be nightmare to control already. Their solution to this was placing them to be interactable in the teapot, having hangouts, and having them in events. They haven't added them to daily commissions since Liyue (Xiao comm) maybe because the future areas have just become too big. You may not like NPCs but a lot of us do to the point where they get their own cards and soon they'll become profile pictures.

What? Genshin is a high-performance game. You absolutely cannot play it with a potato phone , so the ones who are playing have a lot of storage available. Also, if one region is like 5+ gb what's the harm in making the characters? The models are already ingame they just have to load every time the player is near the area they are situated in. The only thing they have to do is add dialogues or quests which can be triggered randomly or something

@@zzz6863 there's videos and photos from fans in the genshin concert from 3 months ago called Melodies of an Endless Journey. You're out of touch. Not everyone playing has a good phone or even enough storage. They even talked about this in one of the early 4.x update livestreams. You really underestimate what adding extra models in the overworld would do to mediocre devices. The floor of this game will probably be the Switch 2 so take that into account. Unless they gave up on the switch. I wouldn't. That's easily another large playerbase in the making.

@@Jinni-iras17514 The thing is that they do use these characters in the open world in the ways you mentioned. And they stay there if you don't do the quest. I've heard of many people intentionally starting Albedo's story quest and then leaving it so that they can have Sucrose standing at the alchemy table in Mondstadt instead of Timaeus. When they go and do stuff in Inazuma, she'll still be there and when they come back, she'll have to be loaded again. For limited time events they have playable characters all over the place "permanently" until the event period is over. Once again, they all have to be loaded each time. It's no different if they are placed in certain locations permanently. There's no reason they can't do this. I think the only reason they aren't doing this is so that it encourages us to pull to be able to see the characters we like. Which I think is a stupid reason because as mentioned in the video, seeing them in the world and the game makes us want characters more than NOT seeing them does.

@@Melotaku I haven't seen any examples of this in later areas. I already mentioned "maybe because the future areas have just become too big". My example of Xiao in comms is the same as Sucrose and Venti appearing in the early areas.
