In one Aus state the state government has decreed that all new house builds will be electricity connected only...no new gas connections allowed. Somehow this new monopoly will save households thousands a year on their energy bills? At Least until the competition is quashed and the monopoly is in full swing. I suspect the same with EVs...force the compliance then go for the jugular.

A work colleague (Qld, Australia) recently bought an MG (Chinese EV) and it cost only $34k AUD but I then found out that that's the price after deducting the $6k subsidy provided by the Qld State Government. Sad that the taxes of ordinary people go towards huge subsidies of something we had no say in. I would much rather that money go toward our hopelessly overwhelmed health system (due to uncontrolled immigration). Not only that but another mate travelled north recently in his EV and it only cost him a small amount in recharge fees because there are several recharging places along the way that are free. Free, well free for the EV owner but paid for by local councils. Once again I ask, who gave councils the right to spend ratepayers money on giving free electricity to EV owners? I'm convinced that EVs wouldn't be a viable option without the subsidies paid for by others.

@@MikeJones-mz5ig It's pretty hard to extrapolate real data from 2022-23 due to chip shortages and logistical challenges that were faced by the industry for much of last year, And, in Australia, at least, there were some pretty healthy government incentives on offer. FBT exemptions and LCT exemptions made Teslas, in particular, a pretty attractive middle to upper market option, this year, especially around tax time. My accountant bought one, and he's a dead set petrol head! Tesla has copped a bit of a hiding in sales in the last 3 months, in Australia, particularly the model 3. If this is a trend, it spells trouble for them. Personally, I think that Tesla has had the best year that they'll see here for a while. That said, I wouldn't like to be selling E class Benz's either. There are a lot of first time buyers that are going to learn the hard way the lessons of depreciation with these vehicles, and that kills future sales. What is going to be interesting, however, is the new cheap entrants that you mention, coming into the market. EV's that will take on the likes of the Corolla, the Jazz, Polo's etc. and beat them at their own game: Price and running costs. If we're going to see an increase in EV sales, that's where they'll be. Without government incentives, the middle to upper end of the market is toast in the current economic environment.

Now a lot of power is Germany comes from coal power plants or gets imported from other countries like the Ukraine. But what i find far more troubling with EVs is that a small bump can lead to the car needing to quarantine for weeks, massive repair bills or potentially even be a total write-off because it's economically inviable to check the battery or to switch the battery. And since you talk about ongoing cost, have you seen insurance costs for EVs lately?

There is another problem I spotted yesterday. I bought a new petrol car in 2017. That car new has nearly doubled in price since, presumably as a result of Government bullying over how many ICE vehicles a manufacturer is allowed to sell and also making EVs appear more 'competitive'.

Yes I'm baffled as to why in the UK the second hand ice car market fell so much this year. I have 2 diesels only really need one but I am keeping both. Be careful of keeping your diesel cars too long. We just had a glow plug fail and then snap off at the tip when they tried to remove it, as it had frozen in with time. This EV pursuit is absolutely madness to me. If anyone thinks it is for being green then you need to take a serious look in the mirror. This is all about eventually controlling us as a population, the government's will decide when and if we travel by literally either not allowing us cars (insurance costs etc) or more likely. Limiting when they are enabled, if they are digital and connected they can literally shut them off. That is where we are headed here within a few decades max. Covid already proved we will abide with their BS.

Anything which needs a bribe to get you to buy it obviously isn't good enough in the first place. In the UK private sales of ev's are way down, business fleet users as a tax dodge are nowhere near hitting their targets. We have got used ev's sitting on forecourts for months not selling and in our car auctions they get an ev go through it week after week after week getting cheaper and cheaper until it is worth fuck all and still struggling to sell it. At busy times we have got people waiting up to 6 hours in shit hole carparks and it's getting worse all the time not better. It's almost as if people are starting to realise sitting in a shit box on wheels in a shitty carpark for hours while their life fades away isn't alot of fun. The infrastructure in the UK will never be good enough to make it successful. To give you an idea of our infrastructure the first mobile phone in the uk was 1985. We are a small country and we still haven't got a reliable phone signal across the country on any network, it's so pathetic we can't even get a consistent signal in just one small county, you only have to go a few miles from any town or city and the signal will drop out. That's 38 years with over 85 million active phone contracts and we still can't get a bloody reliable phone signal on any network, they are twatting about trying to sort out 5g. I just want a normal fucking phone signal to work. Anyone who thinks we will be able to roll out and be able to power thousands of public and domestic chargers are living in a fucking dream world. Our latest big project was a new train called HS2 and it's been a total fuck up massively over budget and they have ended up stopping short of where it was supposed go to and from 😂 EV's the future my arse. Never in the uk anyway, we haven't even started building all the new nuclear power stations we will need and that's before we start adding all the electric heatpumps they are trying to force onto us.

I live in an area that's surrounded by wind turbines. There are dozens of large commercial turbines, quite a few smaller private turbines and a large windfarm. During high winds all of them are locked in position and don't produce any electricity, in fact they consume a great deal of energy to maintain themselves in high winds. This year we've had a lot of very calm days and more than our fair share of high winds and recently it's become something of a rarity to see the windfarm turbines spinning at all. Also, since the turbines were installed I have never seen all of them turning together, there's always one or two of them stationary or not working.

In Germany you can use subsidy to offset the price of leasing an EV. So you could have an EV for 2 to 4 years for practically nothing. Of course once the 2-4 years were up - no one wanted them - as no one wanted to make payments themselves. So these ex-lease cars then hit the secondary market - flooding it. This is why in Germany 2 to 4 year old VW ID.3's are selling at 50% to 70% off there original purchase price.

The financial situation in Germany is what killed the subsidies to EVs. If these subsidies were to be stopped due lack of money or court rulings, then so should other subsidies as well as it is using tax payers money for stuff we/they also do not have a say in.

That, and the fact that the German government is still owned by the fossil fuel industry. "Germany is the biggest backer of fossil fuels, spending some 37.5 billion euros a year in support of energy intensive industry, combustion engine vehicles, coal, aviation, shipping, domestic fuel use and petrol and diesel."

@@lordgarion514Survival of the fittest. The liquid fuels industry has such clout because people spend their money there, because they are getting value for their dollar spent. It's not some artificial prop-up, as you seem to be implying. EVs, on the other hand, survive SOLELY due to the prop-up of irrational fear porn generated by the greenies, with their straight line extrapolations of future doom.

German government seems to be smarter than I thought. They understood there was no need for more nurses. Now they are made to understand there's no need for EVs. I'm amazed by their display of reason. Governments never seem to do that.

@@lordgarion514Imagine thinking 'doing well in school' is something to brag about 🤣(I did though, and I'm ashamed to admit it) Just in case you have any potential for individual thought, you would do well to research what you quote. But I know you won't do that because if you were so inclined you wouldn't have been quoting that kiddie stuff to begin with.

@@varmastiko2908 Already did, that's why I posted it. What I'm curious about, is why are you so happy to give billions and billions to the fossil fuel companies, who have been getting billions and billions in subsidies for literally over a hundred years? In 2008 the world's most profitable company was Exxon mobil, and it got tens of billions in subsidies that year. Why are we giving the most profitable company in the world tens of billions in our tax money?

@@varmastiko2908 Only 2 things matter. Fossil fuels get about 600-700 percent more in subsidies than renewables. And you're happy paying the FF subsidies, while also paying over half of the world's 8 trillion in medical costs, which are caused by fossil fuel use.

If they fully revoke the EV subsidies, affecting the manufacturers, then the real price of EVs will be revealed to be DOUBLE the current price. This is why if you buy a brand new EV and for some reason need to replace the battery right away, you find out the battery replacement alone costs more than you just paid for the car. How is this possible? It's because there's a hidden subsidy to the EV manufacturers that comes from the taxpayers, again. You're already paying for half of the production cost of each EV, even if you never buy one yourself.
