the reason the ram is slower is because its heavier the ford is light aluminum bed vs steel bed plus the ram is really made to tow more

I’m guessing you’ve never actually driven all the trucks on the market. Although I’m much a Toyota guy. The ram takes the cake. Interior, exterior, sound system, transmission/engine reliability.

Chuck C yeah same here, this was a whole year ago lol I own a 5.7 ram, now but yes that is correct, Ford stock is good, but let’s be real an old 350 Chevy with a cam, heads, and a badass intake a n carb in a 92 Silverado single cab short bed would dust any new truck in my opinion, hell I’ve seen it happen with my cousin 4.3 v6 vortec 😂 but they don’t make em like they used to ;(

Lighter weight by a large margin in the v6 eco boost and the 5.0 being 2 wheel drive really help. Its more weight thing then power.

So the little Ford 5.0 with really tall 3:31 rear gears beats the 5.7 with E torque and a drag race favourable 3:9? rear gears and the comment is it would be closer if the Ford had 4x4. Not if the Ford had 3:55s or 3:73s like it should have had anyway. Both the Fords in this test were given the worst possible rear diff ratios and say what! They still win, FORD as usual doing more with fewer cubic inches.

Those gear ratios are actually pretty good for short races. Superior gearing isn't why Ford is number 1, no one cares about that. The reason they are number 1 is because they are the cheapest to finance. Nothing beats 0% apr and low monthly payments on insurance too as the tiny v6 is the most popular very rarely would you see a 5.0. Something like 15% have the 5.0... The insurance companies charge you based on how big your engine is. People don't really care that the truck will be in the junkyard in 10 years. No one knows about that. They just like to enjoy the ride not worrying about what the heck is under the hood. Could be a hemi underneath they don't know. They'll trade it in in 2 years and get the newest one. They don't have to actually be rich building a net worth no they just want to appear rich because that's all that matters to them. I applaud them. Do what yo want man. I may not do what you do because I think it's not the right choice but that doesn't mean I should resent you for it. The people that liked this comment most likely have a dad that owns something like a 2010 with the v6. The 2018 and 2010 are nothing alike they aren't even the same truck. Completely different yet people act like it's a team and that's just stupid. The trucks they made 20 years ago are nothing like the ones they're making today. Nowadays it's pretty much which part of the truck are you okay with failing on you in the long run? Do you want a broken suspension or a blown head gasket? Want a blown motor get a ford, want a broken suspension you get the ram. No too sure what the weakest link is on the new chevies are though. I need to do some more research.

my old eco boost felt faster on the take off than my new coyote but I had the factory tires on the V6 and I have mud 33's on the V8... and I really haven't pushed it too hard since it is still very new...but then again I am not driving a truck to race it...

lucyferina I think the EcoBoost advantage is mostly down low anyway so it probably was faster from a dead stop up to 30mph or so. I was driving a 3.5 EcoBoost Transit and it was a rocket from a dead stop but probably just about the same as the V8 once both are into the upper RPM's. I drive a 6.2 F-250 now. Its actually not slow at all and feels as fast once your up top speed but it won't take the EcoBoost from a dead stop up top 30 or so.

They could use the components out of the 3.5 Ecoboost to make a 4.6L. Using the same hp/cubic inch it would put out around 480hp/500tq.

TFL Truck did a 3.5 vs 2.7 drag race about 2 yrs ago. The 2.7 won. Actually, it was just timed IIRC...

Mr. Unorthodox ... you sure my 6.2L while it was in Park at the drag strip vs a Hennessy 5.0L supercharged single cab 4x4 F150 with radials. I beat it easily by like 124secs (i ran a -6 second quarter) . So next time i go im gonna try racing one with the truck in Drive

I still prefer the 2.7 over the 3.5 having spent quality time using both. I feel the Coyote is still a better daily driver if you intend on keeping the truck beyond 100k miles, even more so if you're going to tow a lot. Ford missed the mark with the EcoBoost engines in that they promised significantly better fuel mileage compared to V8's- and that's simply not the case. They are high performance turbo engines, and use fuel accordingly- at least that's how things ended up in the real world.... The 5.7 HEMI has been around for a long time now, and the industry has caught up - this engine was a revelation in 2003 when it launched in the new 1500 Dodge Rams; it was THE major reason to purchase a Dodge over it's competitors back then. It still powers 1/2 ton Ram trucks as the premium engine mostly unchanged except VVT, better heads, MDS, etc.(a decent bump in power from those changes) I suppose if it ain't broke, why mess with it. It's competitive today, but no longer has bragging rights, it's only major flaw being failing lifters taking out camshafts(my wife's 12' Charger RT experienced this lifter failure at 70k miles, it's common among 5.7's with MDS)GM'S 6.2 as far as I know is bullet proof.

Have a a 2015 3.5 EcoBoost F150 4x4 and i can say coming from a 2012 5.0 Coyote 4x4 the EcoBoost is pretty fast. Great video!!

having a hemi means two things, it means that your vehicle going to spend a lot of time in the service department for maintenance, and it also means that the owner is ignorant and don't know anything about cars or truck. People buy those raggedy-ass Dodge and Chrysler cars because they have hemi written all over them, what they better get is an extended warranty!

So the Ford as expected, cleaned up every truck in the land on only 12 PSI of boost. They can easily and safely be turned up to 18 PSI. Imagine that slaughter.

I do so enjoy everyone focused on turbos while I've been quietly cruisin my 18 / 5.0 knowing it's the second fastest rig on the road. If you think that was fast my 5.0 with 3.73's is a roastbox. Only wish it had that glorious roar my 2014 did.

Thats with a 3.15 rear. Add 3.55’s, a good e85r tune, cold air and cat back and you better really have some gap insurance on that dodge because its gonna be bad 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I have a 2018 f150 5.0 4x4 with 3.73 gears and it’s a monster. There kinda rare to find, I had to search and drive 3 hours to get it

I have the xlt in 4x4 has the 3.31 gears so . The sport mode in the f150 makes a difference holding gears longer . Mine has the 6r80 transmission not the 10 speed .

Please test the new 2nd generation 2.7 Ecoboost with the 10 speed auto I've been waiting forever to see how it does up the Ike gauntlet compared to the first generation 2.7 with the 6 speed. If I lived in Colorado I would go out of my way to buy you guys lunch for all that you do! Thanks for everything! Please review the 2.7 all over again , it's the volume seller in America's best selling truck , alot of people are interested in more 2.7 footage! please reply.

I had a '15 F150 with the first gen 2.7 and now an '18 with the 2nd gen 2.7. I loved the '15 even with the 6 speed, but the main reason I went with with the '18 is due to the added port injection on top of the direct injection. This means clean intake valves and a lot more flexibility with tuning. I'm currently running an E50 tune (50% ethanol content) and the truck rips, a ton more HP and torque. A couple of tuners already have full E85 tune, the tuner of BrewCityBoost is running over 500 hp to the wheels on the 2.7 with ethanol and upgraded turbo internals. But even stock, the second gen 2.7 with the 10 speed is a winning combination.

I saw a 2020 Chevy 6.2 liter Silverado 1500 long term test truck in Mesa az this morning towing a test trailer. No pics he was to quick. It’s badges were on the top of the hood

I have an 18 F150 with the 5.0/10r80 3.55 gear, a couple bolt-ons, and much better tires than stock.. the only truck that would be even be remotely close with me would be the 3.5 EcoBoost, and maybe the 6.2 government motors truck. I noticed there was no "weaker than puppy piss" 5.3L chevy truck in the video! LOL

stellan597 that's not what i mean. The truth is the Chevy does not offer the 6.2 in lower trims. The average Chevy truck on the road is the LT which only comes with the 5.3. The average Ford on the road is an XLT which comes with the 5.0 or EcoBoost. The average Ram on the road is the Bighorn which comes with a Hemi. We all know that the new 5.3 just cannot keep up and on average the Chevy guys will not be able to keep up with the Ford and Ram.

Weight plays such a huge role when it comes to racing. The v6 in the eco boost along with the aluminum makes the Ford alot lighter then the rest. And the Coyote in this vid is 2wd....again lighter. I'm just guessing..I don't have the specs in front of me. But I do have a nice Titan Pro4x in the driveway. It has a garbage 293 rear and lost to the Hemi by 1/2 a truck.

@@modernmusclecar1904 Yeah that gearing is the low! I bet it would feel like a new truck afterwards. I had a silverado with 3:23 I believe and it felt very sluggish and sold it for that reason but it also had the 5.3L engine so maybe that was the main problem.I love the way the new Titan looks but that gearing must be killing its performance

@@RickyLira Ya true. I put 391s in my Camaro SS from 323s I think....can t remember...but what a difference. Best thing to do. I think 355s would be a good ratio for overall performance.

I really thought the eco boost would have beat the Dodge by way more than that. 3.21 gears or not. It has around 1000 lbs less weight and 2 wheel drive and a 10 spd automatic instead of an 8 spd auto and 4 wheel drive. Everything was against Dodge. Good race!!!

Hook a 5,000 pound total weight trailer to each of these trucks and do a drag race. That will determine the strongest truck. It will simulate merging onto a highway with a loaded trailer. That's where it counts with a truck.

I agree. Run them empty and then repeat with a loaded trailer,and maybe do an emergency stop from 60 mph while towing the trailer. That would cover most performance based.

@@Bryan-fg3ey that certainly would do it. I need to know how a truck will perform empty, under load, and towing. Especially when you merge onto a highway or going up a steep hill. That's where it will really count. I know they do the Ike Gauntlet which is awesome and shows engine performance and fuel economy. But all of us that tow know that there are situations that we really need the truck to perform, such as being cut off, inclement weather, merging on a highway, etc.

Sad Nathan didn’t take it in the 5.7 eTorque. Oh well, sticking with RAM here. Since the coyote was a rwd and the HEMI 4x4 it’d be interesting to see the race ran with the RAM in 4x4 auto.

The grandma gears in the 5.0 is quite the disadvantage over the 3.92 gears. Swapping from 3.15 to 3.92 can equal a half second in the 1/4 mile.

jared novak The 10 speed is great but the zf 8 speed used by the ram is now praised as the best automatic transmission on the market now, and it still lost against the Ford. Ford is just superior.

Too bad ford went cheap and put PLASTIC in their transmission. The 10 speed is nice to drive until it blows up because of floating plastic, GM actually refused to put plastic in it. Ford wanted to literally save 2 cents so they did. Ford quality vs American quality. I pick either the gm 10 speed or the ram 8 speed for reliability I’ve seen and driven them hundreds of thousands of miles, fords just don’t do that in my experience.
