Here is my personal #1 tip for improving at any sports at maximum pace, got me to good kickflips and keeping tres under me in 6 months: Visualize. Think about how exactly it will feel to do every single movement constantly. Close your eyes and do it in meeeega slowmo. When you go to the skatepark the next time you will have done dozens more high quality no fear repetitions in your head. Boxers do this before fights too, visualizing is very powerful.
I have always loved going to the skate park alone and just trying tricks for myself. Love the feeling of being completely exhausted after trying the same trick for hours.
Yeah man, i too, i stay there training alone in one spot listening Sunflower, sometimes my friends go there to talk with me and invite to go where they are but i say i'm good being alone, and sometimes i go there to talk with they too or show what i've learned.
I’m almost always skating by myself, and what I’ve found helpful is setting three goals for the skate before I get there. Like have three trick/obstacle combinations either I’ve never done or I’d like to do better. One of them always is one I think I can do but haven’t done. Find that helps me to get motivated to learn new stuff and not just do the same shit every time.
This is how you get better. I'm the self doubter, so having a Dan in group is exactly how I progress. Good people know when you're ready to progress and when it's just you holding yourself back. I make sure to pay it forward at least once a week as well. Really makes me enjoy skating a lot more helping others get stoked as well
What I found that helped me progress the most, was just playing games of SKATE with friends or random people I met at the skatepark regardless of how good they were compared to me. It motivated me to try tricks I wasn't comfortable with and to see how they did it in person just kind of clicked in my brain. Especially growing up in rural Newfoundland there wasn't a whole lot of variety, and the town I lived in didn't even have a skatepark :p but it was still good times all around I even used to play against my friends that weren't nearly as good as me and I would just play them in switch and brush up on my switch skating
fellow rare canadian skater, a bit luckier here in the gta in ontario but we both know that weather struggle i would do a ton of flatground in the winter in my garage and combine em with obstacles at the park in the summer, makin the best of what i got
@@michael5455 BC seems to be the closest thing to California that we have here up north but even then it's pouring rain most of the time haha. The weather struggle is rough man, growing up skating I feel like I would have progressed so much more if after every winter, I didn't have to spend half the summer getting back to where I was. I used to skate in the winter when the roads were salted cuz they'd be dry even though on either side of the road would be 6 foot high snowbanks xD I used to suit up with a jacket, snowpants, a beanie and skate shoes. The Canadian skater is the most dedicated cuz we have nearly every odd stacked against us lmao
All those free hours after school as a kid lead to a lot of exploration: doing dumb stuff on sketchy, found obstacles definitely opened doors to new tricks. It's one tricky part of skating parks, everything is set and it takes work not to fall into patterns and unfounded fears.
Can confirm, having friends to skate with definitely helps you improve especially if they're better than you in aspects and you actually want to learn. I've only been skating 7 months and do shit I never could've done when i was 12 just because I actually listen to the people around me and want to learn the hobby more now.
Exactly what i need before going to skate tomorrow. In my hometown it has been raining for 2 weeks straight now😭 tomorrow it should be over, hyped as fuck!!
When I was in high school this guy was attempting a big flip Mani on a manual pad and it blew my mind he never even landed it , that trick is so satisfying to watch, I can see in dans soul how happy he was to land that, I bet he got the chills
My god yes!! This was fantastic! Awesome way to excell rapidly. I just need friends that skate. 🤣🤣 fucking awesome skating my friend. Icing on the cake was the ender with you on the quarter pipes! Fuck yes man!! 🤙🏻🙏🔥
At skateparks I (now) try to catch myself going to the habitual park spawn points like quarters, banks etc, then deliberately walk down to a random flat spot. The way I'd seen the obstacles and what I could land had been completely defined by the speed and angle coming out of the spawns.
I don’t get to skate with a lot of people so I try and land stuff RU-vidrs are doing to get better. Skateboarding is all about community wherever you find it.
I skate alone. Don't have any skateboarding friends. I feel so good when people watch my videos. I enjoy skateboarding alone but I when I make friends I will try this.
I noticed when you said to Arjun that the ledge was taller than the rail when it actually wasn't he fully commited to the nollie 50-50 and realized it was easier well done
i skate by myself, so i just skat half the time switch to get more comfortable and work on getting all my basics tricks down both stances and fs and bs, fakie and noliie. etc. but i make sure to land my basic tricks and if its an off day ill just work on my transition or 180s in to things
Usually tho, i always thinking about a newtrick that ive not made yet, and im like "ill give it 10 tries". usually it starts to work out so then its all fun to try it aswell
Learning switch accelerates learning normal. But it's hard to discipline myself to do it. 'Cause I'd rather just skate, even if it's just pushing. Caveat, I'm a beginner, now with a shattered leg, so I dream of skating. So for now dreaming and watching Dan's videos is my method.
I've been trying to learn your "raillie." I can't get it. I've watched a few videos where you explain it, and I DID get the eurogap slappy but I can't get the raillie. 😣
Any pro athlete will disagree with the general sentiment of this video, as more serious training and setting short term and long term goals will definitely help a lot, along with putting in the hours. ie. hard work. _However_ for 99.999% of all people it is far more important to just have fun with it and progress will come very naturally. You might not see huge spikes in progression or learn stuff 'faster' by any stretch, but there's a high chance you won't give up on skateboarding through frustration. Which might be worth more in the long run. For kids with the potential to learn basics to tre flip in like 3 months, I really don't think such talent should go to waste. At the same time, 'skating to become pro' or 'skating to become sponsored' probably isn't within reach for most people.
just started getting into skateboarding not too long ago was super motivating was killing it now have no buddy to go with so motivation is at a all time 0% progression is at a all time low as well. Its like playing a multiplayer video game by yourself.. very wack indeed
