As we begin Black History Month, I wanted to spend this month speaking about some of my favorite movies either starring, or centered around black people and the black experience. The first movie that came to mind for me was Get Out. If you haven't been able to tell from some of my other videos, I am a huge Jordan Peele fan, and Get Out is largely responsible for that. This is a movie that took the world by storm, first seemingly due to word of mouth and its highly entertaining synopsis, but after first watch, left many realizing they just witnessed a masterpiece. Its a movie that's great in more ways to count, but today, we're going to look at, Why I believe Get Out is a Perfect Movie.

A hot take from me: while I did enjoy the other projects from Jordan Peele like Us and Nope, it’s safe to say Get Out is his magnum opus. I still remember when this came out and I went to the movies to watch it. Now you’re making me want to do a rewatch lol.

Lol well I always knew I'd be making a video on this movie at some point, but I happened to watch it a couple weeks ago, and got inspired to make the video asap! But I couldn't agree more with your thoughts. I love all Peele’s films for different reasons, but this is the only one I think I love everything about it. I can nitpick and find certain things about Nope or US that aren't perfect, but Get Out...nothing. Definitely his magnum opus! ✊🏾

I enjoyed and appreciated Get Out a lot ( runs a close second to Nope which i really enjoyed story wise and visually). Get Out to me seemed sometimes to be powerfully subtle , sometimes to be a little heavy-handed, but there's no doubt the terrifying vibe Jordan Peele put together was legit, and I also am aware that from my specific background I can "get" the message of the movie but not really fully "get" it / feel it, if that makes sense. definitely looking forward to more from JP in the future.

From a visual aspect, there is no contest. Nope is one of the best looking films I've seen in a long time. Get Out looks great as well, but you can tell Peele didn't have the same budget he had for Nope. As far as the story goes. I do agree to an extent that after watching it for the first time, every subsequent watch could feel a bit heavy fisted to some. For me, every time I've watched it after the first time, I've only learned or saw something new that made me appreciate it more lol. And I hate to be that guy, but I definitely think aspects of the movie hit harder for some who can feel what he's trying to saying certain spots. I think its clear all 3 of Peele's films are great though! ✊🏾

I agree, this is one of the greatest films ever, of any genre. I love how racial microagressions were the subtle scary build up. With the racial macro agressions being the horror of the film. Also the idea of trust brought a great emotional despair to the horror. The main character could not trust anyone with melanin but his TSA friend. The arrival of the TSA car and the relief of despair that it was not police brought a great roar response from my theatre crowd. Also the mistrust of the girlfriend when the ignorance acting ends, and when the many fotos of past lured African men and women brought a great gasp from my theatre crowd.

100%. Anyone who's experienced racial macro or micro aggressions knows it can turn a mood from normal to tense in seconds. Since this movie is litterd with them, you can't help, but feel tense throughout the entire movie even before you know whats going on. Something special about knowing a character is in trouble, but we're not entirely sure why. And I can definitely relate to that. The theater crowd I saw this with audibly hit every emotion you can imagine. Such a dope experience. Hope all has been good with you fam! ✊🏾

It was fine, had some real cheesy moments too. Great premise but you basically get the jist of the movie from the preview. Nominating this for best picture was absolutely insane. Commentary on racism doesnt just make a movie a masterpiece. It was fine.

Appreciate your thoughts. I know a few people who feel the same way. Obviously, I thought it was well worth the nomination lol. It was definitely a product of its time with all the social and racial injustices happening, but I don't think that's necessarily the only reason it was nominated. It was shot well, was original and had a truly great script. The real life parallels were the cherry on the top.

Wait, this was supposed to be an deep and thrilling? I thought it was a parody of horror films
@itakeonmovies
@itakeonmovies Месяц назад
Yes. I mean it's all subjective at the end of the day, especially in terms of what may be considered thrilling. The themes being deep, however, is a little less subjective. I think it provides some pretty deep and relevant social commentary. Have you seen it?
@weblure
@weblure Месяц назад
@@itakeonmovies I'm rewatching it right now after 10 years and so far the only vibes I'm getting are comedy. The "social commentary" feels like an exaggerated parody; the line "vote for Obama a third time" gets used twice within 20 minutes lol And then the horror so far was just cheesy jumpscares of black people doing mundane things...? And I recall the rest just being really corny witchcraft voodoo
@weblure
@weblure Месяц назад
Wow, that was... so much dumber than I remembered. The latter half of the movie just turned into a painfully slow slog, and then the ending was anticlimactic as hell and nothing added up at all. "I'm TSA, we hack things (after inexplicably rolling up in a cop car)" would've been the cherry on top if they'd just committed to making a comedy. I feel like this WAS meant to be a parody, but some executive demanded a change halfway through. I don't know how anyone could conceivably watch this and come out feeling like they just witnessed something deep and profound.
@itakeonmovies
@itakeonmovies Месяц назад
@weblure Sure, there are elements of the film that poke fun at or be seen as a parody of the genre. I think you're right in that regard. I do think in this case that only adds to the charm of the film, though. Also, not everyone will understand or connect with the themes either, so you're definitely entitled to feel that way. I happen to think this is a highly original, well acted and written film, totally deserving of its Oscar nominations and win.
