Yow for real, I just finished watching the 2 films and jumped directly to youtube for the movie reaction and reviews. Damn, this video is SUPER CORRECT 💀
I always hated how in "dont be a menace" the comedy, one of the messages was "theres no good female role models in these movies" as if there ever was a male. Just shows the Waynes love for their mom but still unrealistic. There was always moms in these movies amd never dads that were any good. Furious gave me an example to be as a father
Try to watch : SPL II: A Time for Consequences/Kill Zone II from China released in 2015 And : The Man from Nowhere From South Korea released in 2010 Both of this film had quite different fighting style but both fighting styles are out of this world. Both film had 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, insane isn't it...? It's not just some action film focusing on fighting alone and they aren't try to make it just cool on action, both film are heavy on storytelling, thrilling suspense, focused on character, and a fighting choreography you'll never seen on any film in history.
As the video leans heavily into Silat, here’s a saying from it: Honor comes from going home (my best to translate it, it’s originally in Javanese) Basically honor back in the days comes in fighting, winning, and going back to your home to still care for you wife and kids. Doesn’t matter what happened in the fight, what matters is you came out alive, and still able to provide for your family. That’s why Silat techniques are made with killing ASAP in mind, cuz if you drag it for too long, the chance of you being injured by your opponent. And again, being injured means you can’t provide for your family in the mean time.
@1monkey1typewriter man that's tough, but I'd say overall, yes. Simply because I think it's the more meaningful and important film out of the 2. Friday is a certified classic though so I'm not mad at anyone who says it's the GOAT hood film. ✊🏾
7:20 I actually think that Rama trained day and night to find and take responsibility for his brother. That’s why he was able to last so long in the first movie. He did all this while having a loving family. Him being caught up in a socialist scheme was just the cherry on top for the movie.
The TV show "Warrior" is absolutely great, y'all should check it out. Barely not one cringe fight scene, great actors/martial artists (Andrew Koji, Joe Taslim) and generally a very very badass vibe.
The difference is the actors who plays the hero is actually a martial artist unlike taken who the actor is old and keanu who is limited to what he can do. Don't be confused on why the raid fight scene works more. 😂😂😂
The Raid follows the style and look of -Tony Jaa starrer Ong Bak. Both these movies did great to promote their respective indigenous martial arts Muai Thai and Silat. When it comes to MMA, i think Indisputed II and the subsequent movies had some of the best ring fight scenes.
Need to say that The Raid isn't the one that "invent" this type of fight scene (especially on camera play), but The Raid definitely turn it up to 1000. The Raid has become a benchmarks of how to do great action movies since then...
I almost have the same feeling with Heat when it comes to shootouts. The sound design in that movie as well as the tactics the actors use feel amazing and really makes a lot of movies fail in comparison to it.
sure man, the scene of a trained assassin honorably squaring up with his target instead of killing him from behind or even pretending to be honorable to lower the hero's guard is "realistic" hard to take you at your word when you say the overstylization isn't a big part of the scene, when it's literally the first thing I notice
For me it’s crouching tiger hidden dragon was a big deal at time but I’ve never heard it brought up in top action movie.Ever since I saw the movie I’ve been on my martial action pack itch and never seem to be satisfy. I do like the raid series but for me it’s missing the spiritual side and aesthetic of martial arts
To be Honest i cant even fight but i fought sometimes when i play football n the competitions tension were high everybody wanna win 1 or 2 kick or punch im ded for 2d, from my noob view The Raid guys stamina must be near Godlike with even enough drinking water or energy drink 😂
Dude, you gotta watch the old Hong Kong action films from the 80's. The Raid takes inspiration from them. Action movies today don't hold a candle to what they were doing probably before you were born. Check out Righting Wrongs -1986 And Yes, Madam! -1985
The phrase "Run amuck" in English is borrowed from Malay "Amuk'' which translates as "swift brutality". In modern Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia, the native speakers still use "Amuk" to describe chaos, brutal, catastrophic and destructive phenomenon. The Raid franchise is simply "Pesilat mengamuk" (destructive, brutal martial artists). Much love for Iko and the gang. The latest news from Iko, he will cease future Hollywood projects and will focus more on his family as well as training new martial artists. He says there is a need to nurture the new generation of Southeast Asian martial arts actors and actresses.
What's interesting is the Da Mayor yelled at Mookie not to throw the trashcan, but Mother Sister wanted the place burned down. I'm with Mookie, not like he had a job to go back to anyway. Maybe it wasn't a purposeful diversion, but it likely saved a ton of bloodshed.
Good list, really. But I would like to give honorable mentions to the restaurant fight scene from Oldboy (the original korean movie, not the remake). And something from Bourne should be in the list. Bourne was a kind of predecessor to John Wick in that realistic/brutal fighting style for Hollywood movies.
The hallway scene in Oldbly is definitely one of the greatest fight scenes of all time, I would not be mad if someone had that on their list. And the close combat scene in Bourne 2, I believe, is amazing. I like both those suggestions
I prefer the first Raid movie over the second one. From the story and structure of the film, it's much simpler, but that turns out to be it's favour, no complicated story twists, no compromise, just good old action.
I definitely agree that the first films strength lies in its simplicity. The story is very concise and easy to follow, yet highly engaging and suspenseful. The second one, in my opinion, just has more memorable characters and fight scenes.
RETHORICAL QUESTION: When are you (content creators), going to understand that the background music it's extremely annoying, and makes dificult to pay attention to the actual commentary??...it's NOT an improvement. Actually it's so annoying that, besides just changing the chanel, it makes the idea knocking you F....G teeth down your throat really appealing.
there's no such thing as "black culture" in America because there is no real "black" community in America. drake is not hip-hop he is pop he has always been pop or hip-pop at the most. there's no such thing as "blackness" there is no one defining culture or experience that ties us all black people together just base on skin color especially not into todays world. people bring up the police brutality, struggles and living in the hood as if if you are not from the hood or have been poor or speak a certain way then you are not "black enough" as if black people are the only race on this planet that have struggles and hardships. the rest of that black nonsense just pushes negative stereotypes. Hip hop came and gave a voice to the oppressed from all walks of life. "rap" its self its water and dumb down to the point now people will say some one like Future is hip hop.. no! thats gangsta rap there is a huge difference and that's the real problem with drake he tried to do gangsta rap starting with mob ties and battle real artist and got chewed up.
