Just found your channel recently. I'm a Native North Carolinian here in the US and I can say your genuine love for the sport is absolutely amazing. I've learned so much about English Football from your channel and I can't wait to learn more. Your enthusiasm and joy for the sport is very similar to how a lot of people like me feel about college (American) football here in the states. Keep it up!
Same. Native Hoosier. Lifelong Notre Dame fan and massive Tottenham fan. I just found stuntpegg. This channel is great. Her enthusiasm is infectious and I learn something interesting from each video.
@@stuntpeggnieveDear Nieve aka StuntPegg. Thank you for another video. I think I agree with nearly all your favourite 5 derby's. I am surprised you didn't pick Portsmouth v Southampton. You are wrong about Wimbledon and MK Don's, because they used to be both the same latter team.
@@stuntpeggnieveMay the best team win tomorrow, even though you hate Rugby, as my two teams England and Wales, are playing each other tomorrow. Well done for your other half, the Italians, nearly beating your English half and only losing 27-22.
The other Derby people should have sat down and watched was the Black Country Derby West Brom vs Wolves. Albion already Hate Villa because we are close rivals but Wolves became our rivals when we went down, we then battled from promotion and Relegation. It Started to get voilent and ugly in the 80's and 90's as Wolves started to see us as there rivals. The scenes in the 4th round showed everyone it is ugly. We do get on apart from Derby week
Ian Hislop once made a similar comment about France not being able to keep their hands to themselves after cheating against Ireland. He hit the proverbial nail on the head.
Amazed that Taunton versus Bridgwater didn’t feature! As for imposter syndrome, I always think of a quote I read on a piece of art by Billy the Butcher- “The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence”. Stay awesome Nieve, 300,000 folk on here love you x
@@stuntpeggnieve around 4 min mark.... when I was your age I was an insomniac as well (& had it really bad) What has worked for me & I really did not think it would was - WEIGHTED BLANKETS. Mine is a 20lb and really has done the trick.
Massive respect for the Type O Negative shoutout, and INXS as I'm Aussie, also had a giggle at the captions turning "we need you again" into "we'll eat you again"
Finally someone outside of Sheffield has recognised the importance of a Steel City Derby only someone with intelligence and a deep knowledge of football would understand it thank you..
I'm a Villa fan living in Sheffield now and I would probably say that rivalry is fiercer than the Second City derby. Feels like genuine dislike whereas Villa-Blues can often feel quite jokey (mainly because Birmingham are a silly club).
@@stuntpeggnieve Dear Nieve aka StuntPegg. Assuming it was you liking my comment, showing respect to your Italian sides Rugby team, I thought I would keep you informed, that they lost 41-0.
@@stuntpeggnieveDear Nieve. If you did ever visit the Portsmouth or Fareham areas, you would be very welcome. The only dislike I have known, not from me personally, of foreigners, is for Germans, certain types of Blacks, and Czechs giving themselves a bad name, through letting people get drunk, coming out of the Prague Junction bar. I am sure I also had a distant Italian next door neighbour.
The way Sir Alex handled his Men was optimal IMO. So many big personalities, and kept them all (mostly) in check. A true manager of people rather than manager of resources.
10/10 craic on every response, these videos are honestly such a joy & lovely to get some background on the 80s music snippets which we have all come to love
I always knew that you had great ball knowledge but your choice for the #1 derby and the best stadium exterior surely now confirms your status as the leading brain of English football on RU-vid.
That music segment at the end made me really love you. All those names you reeled off, Zombies, Hendrix, Cream and then Soundgarden and System of a Down, I didn’t know someone my age (mid 20s) would love and know the same names. Brilliant stuff👏👏
Found out your name is Nieve from the comments! I love your channel and your passion for the British game. The premier league gets a lot of the publicist but there is something special about lower league football that I think you are doing the best job I’ve seen in capturing the essence. Keep up the great work!
I've never heard of anyone outside of America that likes Type O Negative. I tried to introduce them to some of my English friends, and they didn't care for them at all. One of my favorite bands. You are the best!
@@stuntpeggnieve - If you remember, Hutton’s chant was the Scottish Cafu. After the game, Cafu apparently tweeted, I’m the Brazilian Hutton 😀 Great channel 👍
Your channel is a treasure! Your passion for the sport is infectious. Here in America, we had endless levels of professional baseball in the past. I wish we still did. Your tiers of football are fascinating.
I really wish we had promotion and relegation here in America. Imagine a team rising up the ranks to reach the pinnacle of the sport. It would be electric.
As an American Newcastle United fan in a city that has been big into English Football before TV companies did fan fests in cities like Nashville and Orlando. I can tell you that even here people don't understand that the Tyne Wear Derby started centuries before football existed. It's got similar economic talking points that Portland and Seattle in MLS have here but it's a lot deeper.
I would have loved to have seen the 70's era of football. When it was possible to get promoted to division 1 and win it in your first season, the hairstyles, the music, no super rich clubs and it was free to watch footy on the telly, mucky pitches and crazy tackles
It might have been free to watch but it was one game on TV a week, very few highlights and nothing below the first division was televised or even filmed
Oh no, yet another cool video on it's way...! all your videos are cool Neve, that's why i'm here. And now that I know we can rave to the same sounds of Yardbirds. Zombies and the Who etc, as well as Footy, your channel is now Bolted into my heart with 10" Bolts..., why Bolts and not nails? Well, Bolts are bound to be more suited to a Bolton fan I thought, yep, that's me being thoughtful again! And to top it all, I might even throw away the spanner if you're into Jeff Beck as well.
Japan is great for football, you should get over there. I've never seen fans quietly waiting for their turn to chant before and couldn't imagine the same ever happening at my club's ground, Elland Road.
If you come to India ever, make sure to visit Kolkata and its rich football culture with its legendary Kolkata Derby (Asia's oldest rivalry East Bengal FC vs Mohun Bagan SG)
I’m same with music, it’s the one thing I love more than football myself, I sent a question about music myself, (sorry if that offended you but in Whitney’s case I struggle to separate the art and the artist there) but I really love Psychedelic/Guitar Music Myself, and Soundgarden, congratulations on 300,000 Subscribers, you’ve earned it!
@@SteRDLK the songs are alright but I’m not a big fan of the woman who sang them, I don’t like speaking ill of the dead, but I didn’t find Whitney Houston a pleasant human being, so when the songs play I struggle to take that away.
I don’t know if you are in my side, but I have been having a debate with friends on both sides, Pompey and Saints, and they agree with me, there are 3 problems. 1. The 1% Saints friends who say Pompey are s***, 2. Calling each other Scummers. 3. The 657 crew denying being Racist, and causing trouble, towards Black players, of the club.
Shrewsbury vs Wrexham completely underrated. Has a whole edge of England vs Wales surrounding it between two border towns- absolutely hate each other. If they come up next season i'd recommend heading to it!
My very prim and proper late grandmother always asked how the Wanderers were doing even years after coming to Canada from Bolton. Glad you're still at heart a Bolton supporter. So pleased the fan support is coming back and the team is on the brink of promotion.
I’ve been to Aston Villa v West Brom as a neutral. Also, stood in the Holte End and it was pretty lively stuff with volleys of abuse being hurled across the pitch from both ends. I really enjoyed it. Got talking to a few Villa fans at half time and they realised we weren’t from Brum and we got a few funny looks.
Love the channel. You need a contract with Sky or BBC. However... just one tiny thing... the title of the video was a little misleading. I ALMOST didn't watch it, but if i had known it was an amazing Q&A, it would have been a must watch! Again, very minor opinion but hey how am i to criticise what is quickly becoming one of my favourite RU-vid channels. Keep up the excellent work!
the premier league was able to market itself the way it did and change viewership and the way football in england is followed by fans by modeling it after the nfl in the states. tv deals with cable networks were where the money really was. the modernization of britain's telecom infrastructure in the late 80s/early 90s was a pretty large factor. the internet's success a decade later was also a major contributing factor.
I would love you to review the Moroccan Derby one day, I'm sure You'll enjoy the rivalry between Raja and Wydad. The next level of passion is in the Mohammed V Stadium ! Keep up the great work I get to experience being in an English stadium through your videos !
Excellent video again Nieve! Did you know that the bitter rivalry between Sunderland and Newcastle dates back to the English Civil War, particularly following the Battle of Boldon Hill in 1644, long before SAFC and NUFC existed 😊
@OfficialStuntPegg Yes, it has been many years since the Irons played Millwall. But back in the day ...... As a side issue, I was under the impression that you followed Bolton Wanderers. Disappointed to hear that you support ManU. Totally agree about Roberto Baggio. Very underrated. Singlehandedly, took Italiato the WC final 1994.
2:50 love that photo of the Villa fans celebrating Jack Grealish’s goal away at that pig sty *State Andrews* & seeing Jacob Ramsey celebrating in the crowd with the Villa fans 💜💙
As an outsider to English football, I'm starting to get the sense that Birmingham is home to several fierce rivalries (recently, Wolves v West Brom illustrated that). For music, have you listened to Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson?
@@SpireUtd ha yes that's true, I've seen Town take 3 sides of MTFC's ground. Still though, the rivalry and hatred goes deeper than just that little stretch of the A617 😆
Whenever a girl says she is as passionate about music as she is about football, and then goes on to list the range of genres she listens to (from S.O.A.D to Little Mix to Billy Idol)... I dunno it just instantly makes them undeniably attractive in my eyes 🤷🤷🤷
Well if you want to be even more technical then it's not even half English, it's a fully Welsh derby. Even though Chester is an English ground, their stadium famously crosses the Welsh border. The car park of Chester's ground is in England but the actual pitch is on the Welsh side of the border.
Great stuff. Just on local Derbies there's one I've heard about but never attended and that's Burnley v Blackburn Rovers. I know people from both towns and they absolutely hate each other.
I have been around many city's around this country and Liverpool a while ,Salford mancs a while ,Sunderland 10 yrs ,Birmingham 9 yrs ,and once inside for a Maggie thatcher 6 months don't pass go ,and met a top lad from ocs sheff wed crew so ,tasted when went over to sheff some weekends and the hatred with the blunts ,is very very fierce usuall stuff even outside match days ,raiding each other's main pubs people beaten to ,near death hospitalized and more but for me all things considered,it's the killer derby Birmingham v Aston villa ,it's like a warzone especially on match days and obviously, big numbers with big city makes it ,even more crazy and hard to contain I'd rate steel city derby not far behind .
