Supplementing Omega-3 is not enough to balance a high omega-6 diet. I ate a standard high carb diet, and supplemented 1600mg of omega 3 (EPA, DPA & DHA). After fiew months I went for an Omega3/6 test, and my ratio still was 1:8 omega 3 to 6. It's not possible to counter a high omega 6 intake with supplementation, I think it's important to be mentioned.
I don't think it needs mentioned as Dr. Berg makes it very clear that our ratios are not able to he solved by omega 3 supplementation. Thats why he always suggests high omega 3 foods. Maybe try both and stop consuming omega 6s aka any oil other than coconut, olive, and real ghee/butter.
@@ounahh so frying with lard (pork fat), butter, the own fat of the meat/chicken and then spreading olive oil, apple cider vinegar, curry, oregano, black pepper on my food will help me immensely?
No seed oils, no eating in restaurants, Dr. Berg's cod liver oil, IF, carnivore Keto, no sugar drugs or alcohol. Dr. Berg you are the greatest and I am so grateful!
Good morning Dr Berg, I started following you little over a year ago, Yesterday I had annual physical lab work etc. I hit the ball out f ball park simply by learning from you and educating myself you have change my life for better, I'm 60 I do Healthy Keto, OMAD and 120-150 hours prolonged fast once a month. I also use some of your supplements and other Organics once. Thank you Sir.
So much to learn. I did not know that seed oils were bad for our health. Tune in to your channel is the best that ever happened to me. I will alway thank you. Dr. B
Some years ago, in Italy doctors said that palm oil is unhealthy (interestingly enough, another source of omega 3, even though it isn't the best one. What a coincidence). And yet, seed oils have been left unchecked.
I'm from Canada norwegian descent so I grew up with lots of cod liver oil and still take it,but we have access to salmon almost all year round in Northern Canada near Alaska. I assure you it gives you so much nicer skin, hair, or facial hair and eyes you must consider taking it. Many say it has benefits for your brain, the heart, and your eyes too! I recently created a shake with spirulina, beet root extract *which lowers blood pressure) with blue berries , ice hibiscus, and blueberries , and that is an anti aging masterpiece as the spirulina table spoon is about 10lbs of fruits and veggies nutrient wise and beets give you clear skin, but add in glycine with NAC so you have the pre cursor to glutathione the most powerful anti aging anti oxidant. Take this with fish oils, cod or salmon and you'll increase your youthfulness
I know I've heard Dr Berg say that farm-raised salmon is high in omega 6. And even when they say wild caught if you "look carefully" in small writing somewhere they may just say farm-raised in chile or somewhere. I would like to find real wild caught salmon 🎉
Dr.Berg, I did some research about omega-3 fatty acid supplements and found out that there is a huge difference between chemical extraction and natural extraction. Chemical extraction basically destroys every important substances except the Omega-3 fatty acid whereas natural extraction preserves all the cofactors and nutrients that exist naturally in the fish oil. Can you make us a video about fish oil extraction methods and what kind of fish oil supplements your subscribers must choose. Thanks
Dr Berg notes: In this video, we’re going to talk about essential fatty acids, omega-6 and omega-3. The omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is way off in the average diet. The average American is at a 20:1 and sometimes a 70:1 or more omega-6 to omega-3 ratio! We need both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, but we need significantly more omega-3 fatty acids to avoid inflammation. The source is important! You don’t want to get your omega-6 fatty acids from seed oils. Omega-6 consumption from seed oils directly correlates with chronic illnesses like heart disease. Very recently in human history, seed oils replaced saturated fat in the diet and are in every ultra-processed food. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids include fatty fish, cod liver oil, cod liver, sardines, and shellfish. Grain-fed animals are much higher in omega-6 fatty acids. This is one of the reasons people are turning to grass-fed, grass-finished beef. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids go through the same biochemical pathways and compete with each other in the body. If there’s any problem in these biochemical pathways, you can end up with dysfunctional fats that your body will be unable to benefit from. Co-factors for these biochemical pathways include magnesium, vitamins B2, B3, B6, vitamin C, and insulin. Many people are insulin resistant, which means they’re deficient in insulin. Seed oil consumption paired with insulin resistance causes a lot more compound damage. Intermittent fasting and a low-carb diet can correct insulin resistance so you’re better able to utilize fatty acids within the body and don’t end up with dysfunctional fats. Omega-3 fatty acids fall into two categories: DHA and EPA. EPA helps reduce inflammation, and DHA helps support cognitive function. ALA is a precursor to EPA. There’s a simple blood test that can measure your omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. Thank you Dr Berg! 😺👍
This is the summary you send to the friend or relative that gives you a funny look when you tell them that the oil their cooking with is poison... Thanks a always, Dr. B. 🙂
Hemp seed has a good ratio of 3:1. The problem is extra omega 6 you'd be consuming from food. Interestingly, hemp seed oil contains a lot of vitamin E, which protects against oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Just to clarify, what are proper sources of Omega-6? Avacado oil, olive oil, peanut butter, walnuts, etc, all still have a ratio preferring omega-6. We can't eat fish fast enough!
Watch out for nuts. Check this out almonds have an omega 6 to 3 ratio of 2,010 : 1. Yes over 2000 units of omega 6 per single unit of omega 3. Walnuts are ok with 4:1 Macadamias 6:1
These oils were the bane of my existence for over 10+ years. They were giving me acne (and inflammation) and I couldn't figure out why my skin was so bad. Once I figured out what seed oils were, and worked to cut them out (which is very hard to do), my skin cleared up. These oils are in everything! I now just stick to whole foods and I don't go out to eat too often.
I don't think you'll have the time to ever see or hear this question but I'll state it anyways what are your feelings on flaxseed oil? Because it is a seed oil but it's not used for cooking it's used primarily by most people as a supplement
I use the Zinzino Balance oil (omega 3 oil mixed with cold pressed olive oil which ensures the omega 3 stays in your body for over 24 hours) and it comes with an independent blood test that will tell you what your Omega 6 to 3 ratio is. I was 13:1 and was suffering with arthritis in a toe which I had to have steroid injections for. My arthritis went after about 6 months and also at this time I did a second blood test and my result was 1.8:1. I wish more people knew how important having a balanced omega 6 to 3 ratio is!! Thank you Dr Berg.
This is REALLY important for overall health. Lots of things are but IMO this rates way up there compared to pretty much anything else. It's something I have personally focused on over the past 12 months now. Lost 40 lbs in 7 months last year. Have lost another 5 since then. Turned 54 this week. People I work with cannot believe how healthy my skin looks now. I really think a lot of it has to do with greatly reducing pro-inflammatory foods that I used to ingest (omega-6) while at the same time increasing my omega-3 food intake. I do not take ANY supplements for this btw.
The other day, I was on google maps looking for an address and noticed a restaurant oil recycling plant. That is the first I have seen and it was in an agricultural farming area, so now, it makes sense to me what that is used for. Depositing it into the ground would probably be toxic as well but it's like they still want to force it to become part of the ecosystem. 🤦🏻♀️
Pasture raised eggs have a 1:1 ration of omega 3 and 6 which is about 10x the omega 3 as Salmon. Not "free range" That's just 10,000 chickens stuffed in a barn they don't get outside much. Must be specifically "pasture raised"
To prevent cancer and other diseases, we'd better follow the diet of pre-agricultural people. But fresh fruits and meat have become expensive for most people nowadays
Another brilliantly clear explanation, as ever. Professor Michael A Crawford is an English neurologist (in his mid 90s now…and still working!) He has been teaching about the vital importance of wild marine foods and Omega 3 fatty acids (for our brain and heart health)…for DECADES. And by now he knows a thing or 2 about the subject! Reply
Dr. Berg, I absolutely adore your amazing channel. Have you ever done a video on PROSTATE CANCER?? I am wondering what your views are on that subject, specifically if you believe that testosterone is the main culprit. Would love to see a video on it. THANKS and greetings from Palm Springs, Ca.
Now we know what's going on in our fat child's brain when they forget our name because we refuse to buy them a bag of Cheetos or a joint/blunt wrap. When the omega ratios get thrown off, it can get strange. Much respect, Dr. Berg! Happy Friday, everyone! 🙂
So, I still don't understand if Flax oil is good or not. I made flax oil my source of Omega-3 to balance the Omega-6 I get from peanut butter (the "peanuts only" brands) and to my knowledge my only source of omega-6 oil. In fact, flax oil has a nutty taste and mixes seamlessly with peanut butter and only slightly changes the flavor. Since I started doing this, the flaky skin on my face cleared up. I do eat sardines every few days too, but flax oil is super convenient and doesn't taste like fish.
I eat wild caught salmon and take EPA/DHA concentrate. You can get a measurement of your Omega 3 % in your body with Omegaquant. Mine was very high. They also do D levels too.
Everyone says salmon is the way to go, but they don't realize that all the salmon sold (at least here in Finland) are not wild caught. They're grown in facilities. So barely any omega-3 in those, and they're grown and sold based on people's idea of "salmon = good".... and peple just don't realize...
Former Wastewater Plant operator here, just wanted to touch on the biosolid statement. It's not toxic sludge that's being recycled as biosolids AKA fertilizer, it's all the organic solids that are being removed in the treatment process. Yes it is called sludge but that is just the terminology, there's nothing toxic about it, it's literally just everybody's poop that's removed from the water, sometimes treated with sodium hydroxide which is just Lye which is generally just used to help raise the ph so the microorganisms in digester buildings can break down the more complex molecules in the sludge to simpler molecules which is how you treat the sludge. This helps get rid of things like pathogens and such. Even after that it goes through a whole other biosolids treatment process that I don't even know about cuz I wasn't on that side of things, but it is rigorous, it is State and federally regulated, and it is regularly audited. Also the only solids I heard of that are recycled as fertilizer are only used as fertilizer for growing animal feed rather than going directly to people. These solids rely on microorganisms to be treated, literally doing the exact same thing your intestines do, if it was toxic the microorganisms couldn't do what they needed to do.
I wish Dr. Berg would have a debate with Paul Saladino about what causes insulin resistance. Dr berg claims that it's mainly the carbs that causes insulin resistance while Paul Saladino says it's the seed oils that cause it. Paul also claims you can have up to 300 grams of carbs a day (in the form of fruit and honey) for most people and still be metabolically healthy.
Okay the chicken has high omega 6 ratio but this doesn't really matter if you get the lean chicken breast because it has very little to no fat, isn't this right?
Dr Berg, the Omega 3 was burning a hole in my polystyrene sheet! Wont it burn a hole in my stomach & intestines which are far more delicate?? Now I take cod liver oil capsule. Thank you
Thanks for all your great advice. I really enjoy watching your videos, they provide a lot of knowledge and are very helpful on a daily basis in choosing food when shopping, etc. Thank you ❤✨
Don't get me wrong Dr. Berg I love your daily videos. However, you have so many of them about Omega 6 or 3. They keep on coming back every month. Why can't we talk about new studies / subjects like allodynia, fibromyalgia - some new stuff. Thank you.
Please Dr.Berg, I’m on carnivore diet (for health reasons). Because of the all protein food, my hair became brittle, super dry and frizzy. What can I do?
My sister and her husband have been convinced, by their "Doctors" to eat way less beef and eat more Canola (processed/refined/stripped, and bleached rapeseed) oil. I've tried for years to explain the benefits of cutting out all seed oils, but she says her Doctor wouldn't lie to her and therefore ignores my pleas. What can I do to make them see the light?
The reality is, especially nowadays, it's impossible to coinvince anybody about anything. But you can keep telling them. Or find one good video and on a good day try watching it together. Ultimately it's their life and their decisions, if they opt not to listen to you, it's their choice and responsibility and you've got to respect that as much as it may hurt
Hey Dr Berg. Great video! I just wanted to ask that i live in India and we dont have fish like Sardines etc here. So what Indian variety of fish I can have to ensure i get sufficient omega 3? Please suggest.
Please Dr. Berg make a video or short about Black seed oil. I get confused when you talk about omega 3s and 6s, it seems to contradict the suggestion of taking blavk cumin seed oil which "cures all but death" . . .
Hello. If you like, you can try Dr. Berg's cod liver formula. Please see the product info here: shop.drberg.com/product/cod-liver-oil -Dr. Berg's Support Team
I make my coconut oil for my skin, and cooking . But, oils in a whole should be used moderately. Sometimes it's good to cook without it. So, Omega 3 in high amt is toxic?
When it comes to seed oils, you would be healthier and safer to just bang back a couple shots of Valvoline 10W40 motor oil (probably just as tasty as well) than to consume seed oils.
