It's sad, really. A lot of people were watching these five episodes, waiting for the eventual turn and snapping of Geto through some event. But it wasn't just one event. It was a combination of different things. What happened to Riko, the trauma Toji inflicted on him, his conversation with Yuki about non-sorcerers and what their existence means to the world, the premature death of Haibara due to the inaccuracies of their mission(and how teens are losing their lives without even knowing why thanks to the higher ups), Gojo being able to take care of all of the problems and what he offered to Geto about getting rid of all of the people even if they were innocent, and the straw that broke the camels back was seeing how two innocent girls were being treated all because of who they were. We saw the story of how Geto went from a sweet boy to the Geto we saw in JJK 0. Hater of all monkeys. It truly is a tragedy. So many bad things continued to stack up and no one saw how far Geto had sunk until it was too late.

@@FeeDeist Not to mention Yuki going, "Oh yeah, Tengen is stable now. So everything's fine" meant all of this tragedy and trauma and life lost was essentially all pointless. It makes sense that Geto started to ask himself, "what's actually the point of any of this?"
@unseenasymptote4976
@unseenasymptote4976 Месяц назад
Not to mention, it was a smaller transition in mentality than people realize. Geto always thought of humans as an other, characterized by their weakness. He was arrogant about his strength and decided to protect the weak. But he was forced to realize that his strength was not sufficient to protect the people he cared about most, and that his and their suffering went unnoticed and unappreciated. Now, those weak people were not admirable. Not worth protecting because of the inherent value of life or something idealistic like that. They were the root source of the suffering. They’re ignorant, dependent, and hateful. Most importantly, they were an other, as they had always been. Barely even people from Geto’s perspective. All that changed was whether or not he could afford to protect them.

Something that’s so horrifically ironic is that both Gojo and Geto ended up getting something from Toji. Gojo got his “blessing” (Megumi means blessing in Japenese), and Geto literally got his curse.
@carpiim
@carpiim Месяц назад
The thing with gojo being "way too far up his own ass" wasnt really like that. Gojo didn't know how to deal with his feelings, he felt useless because he thought "its my fault that riko died, i wasn't strong enough to beat toji before he got there". So he trained, and trained, so he could reach impossible new heights, just so that something like that would never happen again. Because of that, he unfortunately didnt notice how BAD geto got, he did notice something was wrong hence why he noticed that he was skinnier/paler after the incident, but it wasnt enough. BOTH gojo and geto were dealing with what happened in their own way. It didnt help that they were sent on solo missions either... Just terrible all around really.
@JuanSolo9

Not only that but principal masamichi started "testing" every student too. Idk if this was a thing he always did or if Geto's turn caused him to implement this, but he makes sure people can make it in the dchool before allowing them to enroll. Because unfortunately the school can't hold your hand through every traumatic event. They're stretched thin enough as it is. So he at least makes sure that those that do enter have enough metal to hopefully push through on their own.

It’s the tragic character of Gojo Satoru. If with great power comes great responsibilty, a person with godly power can’t be reasonably treated with humanity. The point is that you can’t empathize with the strongest. Too powerful for his own good but never powerful enough.

Geto was already a depressed man because of his cursed technique and absorbing curses. Paired with his experiences with some non sorcerers who are abusive, evil or corrupt, and a realization from his conversation with Yuki (turning all humans into sorcerers or eradicating all humans in oder to stop producing curses) and maybe even a growing inferiority complex to Satoro are the reasons why he turned and snapped.
@MythicalMutt
@MythicalMutt Месяц назад
Not sure if anyone caught it but Toji is the first person to use the “monkey” line when he taunts Geto saying to remember that he was beaten by a “monkey” like him. I also feel like the fact that Tengen is fine and there’s already another Plasma Star Vessel is way more impactful than people make it out to be. In the end nothing with Riko mattered. All the work they put in, all the things they endured, even the emotional damage caused by her murder, none of them mattered (so far as most of the Jujitsu world is concerned). Everything is brushed off as “it’s okay, we found a new one.” Last thing, to be fair to Gojo, he’s being sent on missions, so that’s why he’s not here to help Geto. He’s not just sitting on his butt.

A lot of people say that Geto and Gojo had opposing philosophies, but I think Geto from the beginning wasn't looking at the idea of Sorcerers and non-sorcerers from a healthy perspective. His cursed technique is heavy to deal with and it always seemed like he was trying to convince himself to not lash out. Too much weight on himself, too much judgement on who is weak vs who is strong, who needs who. Just not a good balance and it's a shame the adults could not help sooner.

Yeah, geto took those girls and raised them as his own, on his own. He never taught them to be sorcerers and he didnt make anyone else in his cult care for them. He basically became their father. The man he ends up crushing when he announces his takeover was the one who inspected rikos body, so he got back at him for that. Baby megumi is so cute, only cares about if his sister would be able to find happiness if he went to the zenins. On morgans talk after... Theres fan art that people have made of what if they talked to geto more and made it feel like he's not alone 😭. They even have it so gojo shoko and geto help out the twin girls and megumi and his sis together.

This episode's details are amazing. An interesting one being that the faces of non-sorcerers are blurred or blocked out from Geto's perspective to dehumanize them. It then builds up to the moment when their faces are almost completely replaced with text summaries of their responses near the end of the episode.

Morgan has a point. It's subtle and it's in the background, but the corrupt hierarchy is part of the story. This whole Hidden Inventory arc is about Gojo & Geto first, but they are alluding to how Jujutsu high is flawed. Sending Nanami's partner to his death, Yuki mentioning she doesn't fuck with Jujutsu high, etc. It's why Gojo rebels against them and why he protects Yuji & Yuta from them.

Todo likes strong female figures BECAUSE of Yuki! She was her first mentor in Jujutsu! She is briefly shown in Todo's backstory in season 1. It's also why he asks what women people like; It's because she does it too, and they both do it as a way to measure what people they meet are like. "Tell me what you like and I'll tell you who you are" kind of deal.

Why is Gojo, who also went through trauma( you could argue, more direct) blamed for not helping with Getos trauma? Just because it's not portrayed the same does not mean it's less valid? Like, I would think becoming super competent and never turning your power off after being maimed at 16 is a trauma response? Especially because he got a crucial hit on you because you relaxed your power, and because the man who killed you did it partly just to test and validate himself ( which is in the same vein as something else revealed later on in the series) . Not only that, 3 characters in this show talk about how children should be able to be children, that it is not a sin. So why are people expecting gojo to be an adult in this situation?

Probably someone already mentioned it but the traditional clothes Geto Suguru wears by the end of this episode and so on is called a "gojo-kesa". Gege (mangaka) chose that kesa just because it had "gojo" in it, because everything about satoru and suguru revolved around each other. Everyone else already explained Suguru's descent. The one I blame the most is their teacher and therefore guardian: Yaga Masamichi. He was neglected by everyone because between the two of them, Satoru was the problem child, and Suguru did everything right, so he was easier to ignore. Another thing I'd like to mention, Satoru suspended Suguru's death sentence for TEN YEARS. If Suguru hadn't openly declared war in the movie, Satoru would've NEVER gone after him. He'd suspended Suguru's life sentences until he died of old age. 17:10 this is actually a great point. Do you think this could be social commentary in Gege's part? How fcked up mental health is in Japan?? These kids see horrible, horrible things, they're betting their lives every time they go out on a mission, and they have no one to confide in. they have no support. you could say it's a commentary on how japanese society works and how people, specially the youth, have no mental health support.

Even when he thought they should protect non-sorcerers he still placed himself and other sorcerers above them, treating people like animals that you need to protect is still treating them like animals and what happens if you no longer feel they should be protected? As soon as he can find a reason that makes killing non-sorcerers justifiable in his mind he was already primed to have no problem going through with it, he just changed from seeing non-sorcerers as helpless animals to seeing them as vermin. Ngl I find Geto's story really compelling, he's obviously wrong but given his perspective and experiences I honestly totally understand why he does what he does, and why he feels the way he does. he finds out that curses come exclusively from non-sorcerers and the sorcerers fight the curses for the sake of the non-sorcerers and they die in the process, and in Geto's case when he absorbs spirits it's a deeply unpleasant disgusting experience for him. So non-sorcerers are obliviously causing messes left and right by creating curses, and he has to basically clean up their shit and vomit with his tongue, while his friends also die cleaning up their mess, and how do the non-sorcerers repay them? they persecute them, bully them, lock them up, call them freaks. It's not actually that surprising that he comes to the conclusion he does, him and his comrades suffer and die fixing problems caused by non-sorcerers and for the sake of the non-sorcerers, who also don't even treat them well, and Geto is expected to see that as some kind of noble endeavor?

Morgan getting up in arms about the lack of therapy for Geto and assuming magical people fighting curses in Japan would be impacted by Columbine was...interesting lol. In a perfect world, every student would have a life coach that checks in with them on a daily basis and makes sure the "vibe is right," but I think the show has made it clear throughout that the sorcerers are understaffed and overworked. Everyone at that school had a job to do and little support while they do it. Season two is pretty brutal from here on out, so I hope she braces herself for some more unpleasantry.

As someone who is from Asia (India), this episode and some conversations with gojo in season 1 about how the elders keep fucking up with old traditions and don't give a fuck about what the impetus is on a teenager's brain, hits so close to home. In my understanding, the author of JJK is basically using this medium in order to vent his frustrations with the culture of his country (there is a lot of overlap in both cultures of India and Japan). That you put so much pressure on a kid and provide zero ways to treat a kid's mental health instead of letting that person enjoy his teenage life. You gotta put rules before humanity. In my country, religion has fucked our entire political and mental sanity. People are getting fucked up because fucking 70 year old buttwarts in the top are making stupid-ass decisions. There is so much polarization because adults won't change. Remember, Geto and Gojo are 17 year old when they faced this level of trauma - Riko's death, Toji's terror, Assholes in the cult clapping over a dead 16 year-old girl's body.. what the fuck do you expect from Geto other than getting the urge to shoot up a school. I don't support Geto's decision but I empathize with him so much more.
