@@catherinefowler8798 he probably couldn't if you look at them when they blasting their proton streams you can see their arms are visibly shaking and in the cross the streams scene all of their faces were in a grimace the same is said for when ray fires at slimer for the first time and in the sequel they have the same look when firing the packs in the courtroom it can be reasonable to assume the proton packs create a lot of recoil when firing heck the Xbox360 video game where you fill the roles of a new recruit testing new fun ghostbusting toys is actually considered canon by the crew and Dan akyroyd himself says it's the true third Ghostbusters film so taking that into account you can upgrade your equipment to better fight ghosts and one such upgrade for the base proton is recoil reduction and another is reduced beam wander which increases accuracy so with that it can be reasonable to assume the packs have heavy recoil and have low accuracy plus they are essentially firing from the hip with no actual sights other than point and shoot based off eyesight so there is gonna be a lot of destroyed property for those reasons
