I had a 67 Dodge Dart Gt with the 273 HP engine and a 4 speed. Surprised a lot of Mustang owners and Chevy II owners when they saw my tail lights.

Hello Ronald and welcome! That is awesome! I wish my 273 was a HiPo. It is not far off after the rebuild. Domed pistons and an appropriate cam would get it there I think. I have been on the fence between either upgrading it to a full HiPo or dropping a 360 in it. I can get a running junkyard 360 Magnum locally for less than the pistons would cost. Power upgrades are something for a later time though. Have other things I would need to do before I start looking at boosting power. She still has the 7 1/4 Suregrip in the rear end.

I already have the "it's done video planed out. Not that it is ever "done." In the meantime I will be documenting the journey between now and done here. I have a couple of videos in the works now. One I already had planned (replacing the heater core) and one that was a viewer request (working on the door windows.)

You hit the nail on the the head with your statement "too much money". Darn near everything is too much money, especially for Mopars Unless you have too much money on your hands you don't need Hotchkis suspension. Question. Why didn't the clip fit originally, did you replace a part or the clip and it was not up to spec? Seems like there is zero quality control on everything coming out of China these days, especially car parts. Keep plugging along, the engine does look nice.

Good Morning Chumley! Thank you and welcome back! You are quite correct. I don't NEED a Hotchkis suspension, but I just want one. Lol. As far as the clip not fitting, long story short, I broke and had to replace the output shaft. The output shaft is a junkyard piece from a 72 and apparently is just a bit different. I will go into more detail on the breaking and fixing of the transmission during my next recording session.

@@MontsweagGarage Sounds good, I was wondering if it was some more of the non quality controlled made in China parts that are running rampant. Have a good one.

Welcome Paula, and thanks for the comment! I was ABSOLUTELY thinking where the f*ck did I sit it this time? I set things down all the time and can't remember where I put it. I do much better when I have a work cart I can throw everything on until I am done but I don't have one in the home garage yet. On an entirely different note. I hope to get back on your side of the works again. Been there a few times in my Navy days. I loved most of the places I went. Hope to see you around the comments.

And yes, It is a Chrysler A904. It is currently sitting behind a 5.9L Magnum. =}

you will be pulling again unless you find your missing a snap ring,, there should be 3, one thin which goes up against the governor housing, and 2 thick ones on either side of the bearing ,, you have one of the bearing snap rings that you hacked up agnist the gov body ,, good luck

Hello Mike, welcome to the channel and thank you for the great info! During my original rebuild, I put the snap rings back where they came from and there were only two. I just dove back into the FSM and sure enough I am missing a snap ring. Fortunately, the transmission is currently out of the car so I will definitely get that taken care of. Your help is greatly appreciated!

I don't condone the front end swap, the factory front suspension is a marvel of engineering and far superior to the fad front end swaps out there, just rebuild it and install polygrapite bushings with a beefy swaybar kit from PST. That's what I did for my dart and it handles like a Ferrari in the corners. The factory suspension is infinitely adjustable caster, camber, and ride height. All tuneable with a wrench. No shims or spacers, truthfully a very advanced design even today

Hello David! Welcome to the channel and thank you for the comment. I have actually decided to keep the original suspension. I picked up a new set of bushings, torsion bars, and a bolt in sway bar for it. I still have to get the shock towers/upper control arm mounts replaced before I start getting it back together, but It's coming along. I hope to see you around. Have a great evening.

Before you fixed that clip on the shaft was it wobbly, mine is and not sure if it's a bearing or a clip like that. I got a 85 dodge D-150 with a 904 trans and it pops when placed in gear and shakes around 15mph

@Patron_375 Welcome to the channel and thanks for the comment. My shaft was not wobbly. I would recommend calling A&A Transmission (317-831-3066) in Indianapolis. They specialize in MOPAR transmissions and may be able to help you figure out what is going on and they will have the parts you need. They helped me out big time when I broke my output shaft.

Which manual are you using? Factory service manual or a specific rebuild book?

Hello Jack! Welcome to the channel and thank you for the comment. Initially I was using a combination of the Factory Service Manual and the SA's "Chrysler TorqueFlite A-904 & A-727 Transmissions: How to Rebuild" book. Once I broke the output shaft and could not find a 1967 replacement (ended up going with a shaft from a 72), most of my info was based off of conversations with A&A Transmissions who specialize in 727/904 builds.

The government is watching…😂 let’s just hope the EPA isn’t, with all that transmission fluid on the floor! Good learning experience for me though!

SSSHHHHHHHH! They'll hear you! Hope you learned how not to pull a transmission pan. Lol. I have since installed a "drain plug" so no more messes.

Hey I have the same car and have been working on it myself and there’s not many videos showing how to work on the dodge darts I don’t have an owners manual could you show how to remove the wing window on the passenger side I got all the bolts out but it’s not coming out
@MontsweagGarage
@MontsweagGarage Год назад
Hello Evan and Welcome! I can definitely work on putting together a video covering door window removal. I have some work that needs done on the driver's side that I was planning on doing later, but it is good cold weather project. It will take me a bit to get everything in order. Don't want to put out bogus info. What year is your dart? If it is a '67 as well, contact me at MontsweagGarage@outlook.com and I can send you a PDF version of the shop manual I use for most of my research. Another great resource is the forabodysonly.com forums. Just keep in mind there are many ways to do things and even more opinions about what is the "correct" way. I just find what works best for me and run with it.

@evansparta1159 Were you just looking to remove the little window itself or are wanting to see how to remove the entire assembly frame and all?
