Gilbert Arenas EXPOSES The NBA Media & Their Lies as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew discuss the control the NBA Media has over the narratives of the league and break down how crazy it is that media giants like Stephen A Smith & ESPN can dictate player legacies like Jaylen Brown's Finals MVP and history like the GOAT Debate between Michael Jordan & LeBron James despite never stepping foot on an NBA Basketball court.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

Was Dwight really that good? He was raw and unskilled. Super athletic. But he wasn’t a winner. Couldn’t shoot. Couldn’t dribble. Weaker conference. His back went out before he turned 30. You guys taking five good years and thinking it’s enough to justify an all time career when he didn’t win anything during that time. When he lost some of those pieces around him, his game faltered because he’s not a great basketball player. Who was worried about Dwight after he left Orlando?

That airplane analogy Gil gave was spot on. The analysts have the same exact view as the fans. They should not be allowed to vote on anything. The should let veteran players only vote for MVPs, and things of that nature.
@JamesKlass79
@JamesKlass79 19 дней назад
It goes both ways. Cuz they don't have a problem when the media votes them to all nba teams, MVPs and hall of fame. If the pilot crashes the plane(the player is a bust) it doesn't matter the hours of flight time you crashed. I get both sides. It just comes off like players and ex players only want compliments and praise when we all know it's different levels of pilots or players.
@enamweaknopahknop9661
@enamweaknopahknop9661 19 дней назад
I think the league should give the players and coaches to vote with media vote as well. Be like coaches 1/4, players 1/4, and the rest can be the media. Then add some general fair play into the mix. That should be the most well balanced way or become agenda vote. That LeBron not being unanimous MVP one was spiteful no matter what. Dwight not winning another as well. The media suddenly become the gatekeepers of the greats. Why the fuck does a player need to be acknowledge by some bums who just don’t want them to replace their favorite player? That just ain’t right.

Some of them are formally educated journalists, while some are not. They shouldn't be clumped together. "Your opinions, not so much…" Real journalists or professional analysts make far better basketball analysis than K-Mart or Gil, and some sports entertainers do as well. Former NBA players' opinions are welcome, but what they are trying to do is make more comprehensive analysis of different facets of the game, and usually fail at it. K-Mart has some vague idea of what was going on on the court when he played in the 00's, but he obviously haven't been watching the NBA very intently for at least a decade. And Cuban has never played basketball. Nearly none of former basketball players are able to argue as successfully with people like Skip, and so confidently correct him. I think you missed what they’re getting at. Fans don’t have the level of detail to understand the nuance of a players career. But fans can influence ASG voting, for example, which can then inform a players salary negotiations. That’s not right. You can have all the opinion you want. But that shouldn’t impact how a player is paid and regarded in his career. Dwight Howard is seen, or will be seen, as less than because media idiots left him off the Top 75 team. That informs Dwight’s resume moving forward and how he can/could be paid.

@@penkima4923 I’m not defending terrible takes from former players; however, there are older players who think the Dream Team could beat the 2012 Supreme Team. You can at least blame a player’s take from their personal opinion, having done the training, studied film (with coaches), and seen generations of professionals via open runs, NBPA meetings etc. How does that compare to Jason Whitlock saying that Jordan is the GOAT because of 6-0? Bayless saying LBJ has no clutch gene? SAS saying that if LBJ loses another Finals, he can’t be the GOAT? And these media members have too much power in that they vote for awards that inform salaries. That means that likability or lack thereof (see Westbrook) by the voting media can inform All-Star, All-NBA, and All-Defensive awards. That is wrong. The media is to blame for LBJ not having a DPOY. LBJ doesn’t have 5 MVPs because of “voter fatigue” despite dominant seasons in 2011 and 2018. These affect LBJ’s standing in the basketball pantheon. And that effect comes from ppl who could a) barely draw or understand a basketball play and b) are subject to 0 accountability for their words or hot takes.

These guys are wrong. For Sports media, the audience isn't for the players. The audience are the fans. To get people watching the shows. For ratings. If it's engaging, they'll push it. If it's click bait, they'll use it. If you can cause a debate, that gets opinions and if there's conflicting opinions, they'll use that. Sports media is a business for their network or brand. Not for the players, it's for their employer

Why the hell people even care what Skip or SAS think? They are basically clowns for networks. Gilbert is sort clownish with sometimes with silly comments but he has the cred as the ex NBA star.

As a former collegiate athlete, some athletes are so sensitive when it comes to someone criticizing or critiquing their game. Like who said I have to say something positive about you all the time, if you suck or had a bad game, don’t get mad cuz someone pointed it out, just go prove them wrong or stay off social media.
