The sustainability of great music is a real concern in the age of streaming. The only reliable income for most musicians at this point is constant touring. Doesn't leave much time for creating & recording new music. And it is exhausting. Which is why I take every opportunity I can to buy the music, merch & tickets to shows of the people making the music I love. And I still often feel like I am in debt to them.
@@parker11965 And now with the pandemic they can't even tour. And it's not only the artists but the venues that host them that are getting crushed right now. So I've been buying merch from my fav local venues as well. I've got quite the mask & shirt collection going. I might even keep wearing the masks when this is all over. Hat, mask & earbuds. Singing to myself while tuning out the world around me. Most days I'd be good with that.
Well I actually prefer the vinyl listen to it have records I bought 30 years ago still am thrilled I bought them the steamed music is so compresses one can't compare vinyl to it or even CD. Thanks for the reply peace to you bro
The things I enjoy most are ALWAYS free. Singing. Playing music. Walking in the cool fall air. The smell of wood smoke on a crisp day. The sound of a lonesome train whistle in the distance.
What an amazing piece and a marvelous performance! The song echoes truthfully from the hearts and souls of those players... thank you, Gillian, David and Mr. Burnett!!!
How many times have I fallen in love with an album on first listen and then realized that T Bone Burnett produced it? I can’t put my finger on what he does, but his work has brought me more pleasure from old musical friends and introduced me to more new ones than anyone else I can think of. The only other producer who even comes close for me is Joe Henry, but T Bone! I guess that should be Mr. Burnett to me . . .
What he does is stay out of the way,and tells them what they don't need.other producers would cover this with drums, bass, electric guitars, keyboards, or lap steel and you wouldn't get the feeling of the piece.
Notice that neither Dave nor Gillian have pickups in their acoustic guitars. Instead they play them into mics so you can actually hear what they sound like.
A bit of fun. Tbone is a legend. Nice he is there and a nice laugh. God knows how many tunes he is responsible for and how many artists he has made famous. And he is a great guitarist.
Logos on full display! These guys are soooo exquisitely talented. There’s such a soothing essence within not only their music but, the lyrics as well. It’s just such stupendously stellar writing and art in general. My 3 year old boy loves it as well. Not just that but, there are tunes such as this one, “Airplane” by Dave, “the Weight” from St. Luke’s in London with OCMS and, a great many others. It’s such a pleasurable and deeply connected experience to listen to great music. Thank you.
Nobody is out of tune! Especially T- Bone. Dave Rawlings is a Master of dissonance , and I believe the great Mr Burnett knows a bit abt That as well. So , plz open ur ears and mind if u love music @all. If u don't understand dissonance, then u prob don't enjoy Dylan, Neil Yoyng, Willie Nelson, I could go on and on. This is REAL music, not over-produced, auto this and that, formulaic. This is real feeling here. Watch the body language o Rawlings; he clearly plays and moves 2 Gillian's.brilliant, distinctive, story-tellin vocals. I predict she will b 2 Americana. Or roots music what Mother Maybelle or Emmylou are. Godmothers, and b4 them obviously. In 1995. I was in a boutique in a remote place in Wisconsin, and the music overhead I had never heard. It was Gillian singiing " Orpan Girl", off "Revival", when her notoriety began. I wasn't the only one who noticed, obviously. I love the sincerety in ppl and musicians as it shines thru here. Thank u Gillian and Dave for giving this lady here boundless joy, feeling, tears, love, and inspiration. Also 4 much 2 share w/ my music friends. Much appreciatin 4 all u do, what u give. What a rare and beautiful thing in a crazy, not so pretty world. Fabulous work by great ppl.
@@roxannetoth5026 totally agree and that smile she gives TBone when he tentatively starts, and then joins in to strengthen it is amazing. Did you know T Bone produced their first album?
@@smwrbd Hi Robert, and yes about TBone's production, wow. Never forget where I was when I first heard the strains of "tear my stillhouse down". Gillian hit me like a ton of bricks. Gotta check out what she's up to now. Peace and love
Spellbinding, soul enchanting, utterly captivating and deeply sentimental with an intelligent aspect... quintessentially it may be a perfect song and artistic expression. I sing along and get goosebumps.
“Never minded working hard. It’s who I’m working for.” My goodness. Are they singing this directly to me?! Lol. I just love these two BRILLIANT artists.
i thought that too then realized hes filming! and trying NOT TO LOOK at his phone see.. haha.. he glances down to make sure its on her... hes TRYING to watch ! and film at the same time see. hahaa
I don't know...maybe it's too subtle? Maybe she should have written a song called "Stop Recording Our Stuff at the Performances You Entitled Shits". Though it might be hard to fit that into a verse...
absolutely agree. It clashes with the nature of this type of music to a ridiculous degree. Traditional bluegrass folk and audience members with Iphones, what the hell?
It's an old Epiphone Olympic archtop from the '30's. He found it covered in sawdust in his friend's garage, and he liked the resonant jangly sound, so he's kept it all these years, still plays it almost exclusively to this day
I've listened to and watched this many times and, in the end, I have to disagree with you. T Bone augments their performance even if he is 'all over the place' as someone else remarked. These are friends having a good time and I find his contribution moving and sweet. Doesn't have to be perfect y'know. The more I listen, the more I like it when he sings and hits that guitar a bit.
It just clicks you know. I heard it for the first time today. In fact I never heard of Gillian or Dave before. (I knew T Bone.) And I fell in love with Gillian and Dave. And with this song. It sounds so perfect here. Every note touches my heart. And when my man T Bone joins in to sing and then actually hits that guitar a bit...oh! What a treat!
As a fan of T Bone you should know that he produced Gillian's (and Dave's) first album, Revival, that was nominated for a Grammy in 1997. Great album. Worth a listen.
