In the scene where they are at the college convention, it’s interesting to note that Rory is wearing blue and white, the Yale colours whilst Paris is head to toe in the maroon Harvard colours- possibly suggesting that she is inherently more equipped for Harvard and was robbed all along lol But glad they both ended up in Yale because I love that her character stayed in the show
I agree. Paris was robbed. But I kind of like that Rory won. I graduated first in my class in college and I was a transfer student like Rory, both celebrating our graduations in the same year. I guess they had to eliminate Harvard since Lorelai and Rory were so close but I still think that’s where she should have gone. Does anyone know if they actually filled the Harvard scenes on location? Probably not…Paris was such a jerkt. I hated her dress at the dance. The color didn’t look good with her hair. Rory didn’t have any friends there. I wonder if Amy was like Rory when she was young. I went to the same private school for seven years and only had good friend after two stabbed me in the back. I forgave them a long time ago but it’s sad because I don’t want to go to any of my reunions. I went to prom with the least popular guy in school. It was the only time ever that I enjoyed myself socially. The only party I ever got invited to was the valedictorians party. I could totally understand why Rory didn’t want to teach at Chilton. But she probably would have been better off with a masters degree. Who knows? These days it’s hard to get a job even if you are well educated. I was glad Rorys life wasn’t perfect but for me I really hope she has a son and names him Richard. There shouldn’t be any more Gilmore girls. They have got to do something to make her life a little bit different from Lorelai’s. Amy so easily could have had Lorelai saying me too as her last words. It would have been awesome! All I know is that I will go to my 50th if someone will pick me up at the airport. I want to see everyone. But some people I will never see again. I went back and watched the video from my high school graduation. I remember what a relief it was. Feels like a 100 years ago!
I hate that this is one of those "pretty girl" vs "plain angry meanie girl who is just jealous of the other's beauty" tropes. They could have made paris look less plain because it isnt always like that.
I find it odd that Tristian's character is romanticized for harr*s*ing Rory. The logic of him being attractive doesn't do squat for me. But people can ship who they want: it's their choice and they can imagine whoever they want to date or who to date Rory.
I would not say she was psycho... Neurotic is a better word. She never really tried to do anything to destroy Rory that that was beyond healthy competition other than rumor spreading. She challenged Rory, which she needed in the long run. She pushed her buttons, identified her breaking point, attacked, then recognized Rory's strengths. That is why they became so close. They developed a symbiotic relationship that helped eachother.
Paris was a great character that was necessary for Rory's growth. Her neurotic behavior fanned the flames for competition in Rory. She never really tried to do anything to destroy Rory that that was beyond healthy competition other than rumor spreading. She challenged Rory, which she needed in the long run. She pushed her buttons, identified her breaking point, attacked, then recognized Rory's strengths. That is why they became so close. Both of their strengths balanced eachother's weaknesses. They developed a symbiotic relationship that helped eachother.
Thank you for this compilation. I had forgotten how awesome Paris was. This may finally get me to re-watch season 1, which I haven't been able to weigh myself watch since that awful, disastrous debacle ever revival ruined any sympathy I'd ever had for Rory or Lorelai.
I'm not gonna lie, when I first watched Gilmore Girls, I didn't think I could ever like Paris. She was too cruel and jealous for my taste. But over time, she had character growth! Yay! I think I ended up liking her more than Rory. Oh how the turn tables. It's truly sad how they kept making Rory's character worse and worse. I wish they'd make a new show and at least give her somewhat of a redemption arc or something.
Maybe it's me being nonamerican living in a nonamerican country, or me going to college as an older adult rather than straight out of high school. But I never got the competitiveness about getting into an Ivy League. College should be you're in once you can pay the money for tuition and the academic ability. Not being all cutthroat in high school.
Rory is too well read and too intelligent for that. But yes modern movie writers would destroy any kind of legitimacy here, there is no more soul in current television.
It’s dumb but it can be perceived as embarrassing to be romantically unpopular/undesirable and unable to find a date in that capacity. There’s a lot of societal pressure to find a romantic partner for events like those, even if in reality it’s unimportant.
@@char4980 They are having a deep psychological discussion and baring their vulnerabilities in the middle of a HS lunchroom. I might believe it if Rory got Paris alone somewhere, but even then... I know I would never have been able to have a conversation like this in high school.
@@seanmcmurphy4744 it depends on the people genuinely, like you said it’s a psychological game and part of it is asserting dominance. plus teenagers are hormonal and start drama over everything so it usually gets resolved after a conversation
