Watching this after Melissa (Marley) said that she was abused (probably by Blake, a.k.a. Ryder) during a relationship has a whole diferent meaning now...
@@jhonatandiaz6256 she never abused him. If u watched her whole video she says that towards the end of there relationship she started defending herself which is in no way abusing him. She is a survivor of him abusing her.
You mean a song about a woman forcing herself on a man then acting like she didn't.. And the guy says she can do whatever she wants. Yes.. What a horrible song.. ( sarcasm ).
@@BiteSizedCrafterRape is disgusting no matter the gender (although blurred lines is abt a man being the r**pist and date r@ping a woman) but I dont like how ur acting as if a man getting r@ped isn’t a big deal. And it’s not horrible. Unless I misunderstood comment...
@@BiteSizedCrafter No, men being raped is just as bad as a women being raped. A man being sexually harassed is not something to be seen as “flirty”, it’s just disgusting.
@@okay618 That isn’t what the song is about. It’s clearly about her hitting on him then when he’s ok with it she takes it back. Basically being a tease. He’s saying it’s ok for her to want him.
This is the moment where I started to think less of the women on the show, especially Tina, back when they decided to do a Whitney Houston tribute, Sam objected, saying she had a lot of problems. Everyone jumped on him saying you should always seperate the person from the art, the same went for Michael Jackson. But here, they are all being hypocrites.
i'm on Jake's side on this one, we should separate the art from the artist!!!! But i don't like Chris Brown for some horrible things he has done to peoples.
KodyBruh oh yeah they are and its not really fair for Jake to say what he wants to say and here's a question is My Prerogative one of those songs that's from Chris brown is it
@@gothnixie124 you don’t have to buy anything from the artist but if you already like art, it is unfair to have it taken from you especially since so many celebrities are horrible people. We should be able to like art that we know but as long as you don’t buy from them anymore, you can separate the two. We should not punish ourselves for celebrities being awful.
Did anyone else notice Melissa face at 0:43-0:44 and 0:51 when Jake is saying that Rihanna stayed with Chris Brown and was wondering if by doing a Chris Brown song they were saying it's okay to go back to someone who abuses you.
@@Mel-zq2oi Yes, but that is exactly why it is a guilty pleasure. You like the art, but you feel guilty because you don’t like the artist and what they‘ve done
@ت you can't....these artist used their fame and money they got from their artistic background to take advantage and get away with what they've done. by supporting their art you are in turn supporting the artist.
@@virginiamontes8639 Yes and no. It's subjective. You maybe can't, some other people can. If there is a doctor who find medicine for Covid-19 but he is caught as a pedophile after that, would you stop consuming the medicine if you get covid-19, despite your gradually worse condition?
NOPE. Having substance or mental health issues does *NOT* compare with being a domestic abuser, so his argument comparing Chris Brown to Whitney and Britney is utter shit. And "separating art from the artist" is intellectually dishonest when purchasing, streaming, and performing their music supports them financially.
Chris brown beat up his girlfriend. He should not be supported in any way shape or form. They are absolutely right. Performing his songs is equivalent to saying yeah he did some wrong stuff but that's okay. You cant seperated the artist from the music. What he did was horrible and his music doesn't deserve to earn shit.
Jaza Lodhi that makes no sense at all, good music is good music. If the Beatles were found to be serial killers it doesn’t change their contribution to music. The assignment was GUILTY PLEASURES for gods sake.
Actually the only songs from Rihanna that they made in the show were Umbrella, Take a Bow and We found love, and neither of them participate in those songs, but still is Jake's right to sing whatever he wants
This made no sense. Jake was right. He was the only one who actually had a guilty pleasure as it is defined. Most people might be embarrassed but do not actually feel guilt from their guilty pleasure. I think a lot of Jake’s points were faulty and victim blamed but the point about not agreeing with or liking the dude and feeling guilty about liking his music was valid. He hates Brown but likes the songs. That’s a valid reason for a guilty pleasure and really the only valid reason to feel guilty about liking someone’s art.
I feel the same way Jake does, I can listen to Chris Brown music and think it's a catchy beat, but it doesn't mean i support him and what he's said. The girls are literally just being little brats that can't accept that Rihanna, Britney Spears, and other people have done bad things to
carly12147 also Tina's point about his music never being played in the choir room is ridiculous when you remember that in the first season they sung a Chris Brown song
You shouldn't be listening to them. A lot of abusers have victims, when you listen to their music you basically say to them that yeah I know he was wrong and he's a douche but he produces good music so I'm still gonna listen. Victims tend to break down over stuff like this, you actually contribute to their pain
You have a messed up mentality. You got to be out of your damn mind comparing Chris brown to Britney Spears and Rihanna. Britney and Rihanna aren’t abusers and don’t beat people up. Chris brown had done things that trigger and affect many people are victims of abusive relationships and those people have the right to hate everything about him.
I hate how the girls were never punished for ganging up on and yelling at a guy for doing the assignment correctly, Jake had a perfectly reasonable argument and made very strong points and they just yelled at him more... and then he listened to them like he apparently had the wrong idea of guilty pleasure songs.
The Cool Gamer Dude wanting to sing a song despite it being uncool is not the same as singing a song despite it being made by a misogynistic abusing asshóle
@@clauudia323 Not really, they SHOT the scene before he beat up Rihanna, but it AIRED after. They could have cut it out of the episode or reshot with a different song but chose not to. Probably because they didn't care at the time.
@@lha7735 how did Melissa contribute to the abuse no one should go through abuse and that was Blake's faul people make choices blame chose to domestic abuse
But Rachel and Finn singed No air by Jordan and Chris Brown and no one said anything .............. I really wanted him to sing one of Chris Browns songs he actually makes pretty good music .
I can only remember Please Don't Stop The Music and Only Girl, but I do think there were more (which, as you said, were in the earlier seasons when these characters weren't even in the show)
This issue specifically is pretty much always just individual choice. No right answer. You can either separate art from the creator, or you can't. That's basically all there is to it, and both have valid points.
What's wrong with him liking Chris Brown’s music? He has a point, and it was his guilty pleasure...so he shouldn't feel judged at all when admitting to it.
PrettyLittle Harmony So he’s not allowed to like Chris Browns music?Does that mean we all have to stop liking his music? Yea he did beat her up and all, but does that really mean we all have to stop listening to his music?
@@fakename5400 True. But Tina was a part of Sue's group whereas Brittany is the only one who was in the same group with Finchel when they did that song that is still around in the Guilty Pleasures story line.
Words can't express how annoyed I am at the girls in this scene. I wasn't the biggest fan of Jake but I am 100% on his side here. It's guilty pleasures and Chris Brown, who did horrible things, was his guilty pleasure. Not Chris Brown himself or his actions, the music. The girls should have gotten off his back. I feel like they were being super hypocritical.
I feel like everyone was way out of line here. If he likes his music it's fine. As he said, just because he likes his music doesn't mean he likes him or thinks he's a role model.
Glee only touched on this because everyone else was talking about the Chris Brown and Rhianna thing 😂 I remember when this episode appeared, I was like ummm why is this in here
I hate it when people do this kind of thing. They all made an argument and when he used their words against them they were going ”it’s not the same cause I like those artists so it doesn’t count!”
This part make a me so mad. In school I was listening to music on Chris Brows a NEW album and some group of people ask me what I’m listening to. I said the New Chris Brown Album. One of the girls start CRYING true story
I get the principle of not wanting a Chris Brown song sung in Glee Club, but if the theme is guilty pleasures the point is that he should be able to sing his. Separating the artist and the music in this situation is the most valid. If you’re still listening to his music you’re directly supporting him which is probably the reason the snow decided not to do one of his songs bc it would’ve helped Chris Brown a lot. But in this context it was hypocritical to not let him share his guilty pleasure just because you don’t like it.
It should not have been preformed on the show so he would not get money but it was stupid to act like you can’t like problematic things. Especially since Glee tended to cross the line from satire with a plot line to being ridiculous and offensive.
i agree with jake! the assignment was sing your guilty pleasure song and that’s what he tried to do but no the girls were overreacting. i like chris browns old song but i don’t like him as a person
So are they just forgetting all the time they sung songs by Michael Jackson it’s not like he’s some squeaky clean dude I still love his music ( everybody got their own opinions on him but they found evidence)
So no one is gonna talk about how jake equated a freaking abuser and misogynist to female artists that were promiscuous and mentally ill??? As if they’re the same thing???? I was with him until he said that and victim blamed Rihanna.
Has anyone else noticed the hypocrisy of the glee girls? When people didn't want to do Britney or Whitney because they were bad role models the girls jumped on the seperate the art from the artist bandwagon but the second its someone they dont like its no you can't seperate the art from the artist
Ok, you can argue against listening to his music, I don{t necesarilly agree, but it's debatable. But what the hell with Marley's "you like his music??" Umm yeah, people don't really control what they like, and knowing that the guy is shit won't necessarily make his music sound bad to you. He's at least saying that he feels guilty about it. He's clearly showing he can't control it.
I think just the overall writing of this scene was wrong and should have probably been a bit different here's why. Firstly, the girls and being a bit hypocritical, they in the past have sung songs by artists who have done some questionable things. Also everybody does this, we all support people whose professional career and personal life don't match. So it's not as simple as one or the other, there is alot of nuance involved in this. Reducing it to one or the other can be hard because so many people famous people who have done great things also have done questionable things. Drawing a line of where you stop supporting is not the same for everyone so taking an extremist stance is a very clear line of what you will and won't stand for. if you are going to take the stance of art and artist's can't be separated then you have to apply it to all people and their professional careers who have done messed up things and shouldn't create a double standard. Secondly Jake's argument kinda double backs on itself and doesn't make a clear stance. If he truly believed that art and artists could be separated than he shouldn't feel guilty for liking a song by that artist since the two entities are separated and individual, however since he feels a bit guilty then, in his mind there is clearly a connection with the artist and the art. Yes you could argue that he feels something because he doesn't want other people to judge him on that, but that's not guilt, that's fear and embarrassment. And yes you could also argue that he felt guilty because the girls made him feel guilty, but that doesn't make sense either because he choose this as a guilty pleasure before their berating and criticisms. I would also like to add that using the argument of we shouldn't like just music because it's supporting him through money is a different debate. A person can't control what they do and don't like. Clearly if there is an economic support from 1 party, than it's a clear support like when a company or a famous person gets sponsored, clearly there is a shown support to that person or company because there is an outside and motivation and support to have that party keep going and an acutal support/help to that person's work. Since liking and disliking has no economic or physical support of a person's career than it clearly comes down to a moral debate if you like a person's work does it mean you support the person.
I despise them in this scene. Especially Marley. They all like spice girls. And Victoria Beckham unintentionally or not, promoted an unhealthy body image to young girls. Yes I do understand that she's a grown woman and they r her bandmates not her keepers blah blah. But speaking from MY experience nine year old me would have done anything for her figure because I believed that was the norm.
The two things are not comparable at all. Victoria Beckham didn't harm other people. She never told you you should be like her. That was your own insecurities and she's not responsible for that. I mean, what they said is wrong, but so is your comparison.
A lot of the things Chris did were him being young and immature and not knowing how to deal with his fame. It's not an excuse for him to beat people up and things of that nature, but I think that might've been the cause of the problem and everything else he did were the side effects of his success at such a young age and not really understanding how to handle that. With how big of a celebrity he was when he was beating people up, he was so closely watched by paparazzi and news outlets and had so much pent up frustration and anger at the lack of personal space and privacy and secrecy that he became an aggressive person. Especially since his and Rihanna's relationship was so toxic and how much they'd fight with each other. But he's maturing and growing and becoming a genuinely better person, especially since he has a daughter. Just an observation tho.
Tina, Brittany, Unique, Kitty, and Marley shouldn’t be treating Jake jus because he trashed their favourites set of people who they liked and they came off to Jake jus because he trashed their favourites set of people jus to make a point and he shouldn’t be taking their hate jus because they hate Chris Brown and they shouldn’t have torn into Jake jus because he likes Chris Brown
Even though Chris did all of that, you do have to separate the artist and the music. He wanted to do a Chris song only because it was HIS guilty pleasure. Guilty pleasure is to express something you are not proud of and even if it means others don’t enjoy your choice. He likes the music, he feels guilty about it, that’s what the lesson was all about. I mean I listen to Chris’s songs but I don’t like him.
@@iamyou141 she abused him too. They were abusing each other. Y’all can call Rihanna a victim without calling Chris brown one and y’all can’t call Chris Brown a domestic abuser without calling Rihanna one

That's like saying I'm not allowed to like Puck as a character or his singing voice because of Mark salling. Or that I'm not allowed to like Rachel's singing voice because lea is a horrible person
It’s ok to like music from someone and not like the artist. I like some of Justin Biber’s (if I spelt that right) music. But I hate him as a person. We all have that person I think, Jake was 100% right here.
