The long awaited Unitary Patent Court (UPC) system entered into force on 1 June 2023: this new supranational court allows the proprietors of Unitary Patents and classic European patents to enforce their rights - and third parties to have patents revoked - in all EU Member States having ratified the UPC Agreement, puts an end to the need for litigation before national courts in different countries and aims at enhancing legal certainty through harmonized case law in the area of patent infringement and validity. A few months have elapsed since the system is actually working. Which conclusions can be drawn from its existence, initial functioning and operations, and market reactions to the UPC? For this Session of our 32 Global Digital Encounters, authoritative speakers from Europe with a variety of backgrounds and opinions will provide a live picture of the present and future of UPC in favor of both business and consumers/society.
