When my boyfriend went back to Greece in 1989 and told me that he wasn’t coming back, I listened to this song over and over again. Turns out he couldn’t stay away from me either. He came back, and we were married 2 years later. Just celebrated our 28th anniversary a couple of weeks ago. :)

Growing as a teenager in 80's ....man...the life was hard as it gets, we were poor...but somehow, it was also so great We had no internet, no really a TV choice, all I had was my favorite FM radio station and me recording music to make mix tapes that we would later play on parties. Friendships, movies and music , just so awesome.

Yup. Lost mine back in "93. Pushed her away actually. Thought she was too perfect. Therefore too good too be true. My biggest regret. The only regret I actually dwell on. And I have made some stupid decisions in my life. They all pale in comparison. She ended up, 1 yr later (after numerous attempts to reconcile)with the man shes still married to. 3 kids.... I havent been able to sustain a meaningful relationship after her. Been kickn myself in the ass ever since. 😢

one of the best surely. all her songs are her best songs ever I guess. none of her songs sounds like second-rated. all top rated, and its rare to find an album with all top rated songs from same artist. Although during the 80's-90's "don't wanna lose you now" has been played like endless times in my area in supermarkets, radios etc. I think its her trademark song.

It’s possible she transferred feelings for her father ( who passed when Gloria was very young) to more standard love sing themes. I find it hard to believe it was just creative empathy. The lyrics are too pure and direct, they cut through too much.

12th May 2024, 4:57am. I've just woken up from a sweet dream that I can barely remember. It just felt sweet. But I remember the beats from the beginning of this song, and the words 'I don't wanna be your second choice', along with the nostalgia from my youth. I'm 47 now, and haven't heard this song in years. It took me a while running those words around in my head and slowly, more and more words came, till I had enough to do a Google search. Now here I am wide awake, going back to a time when I still had all my teeth, a time when this planet still had a soul and the magic of love was real. I'm thankful I got to experience the feeling of the 80s and 90s. This song has brought me to that happier time.

I saw her perform this classic in a 1988 concert in the Caribbean. To this day I STILL proudly tell ppl it was the GREATEST Concert I've ever been to among many other 80's artistes. The ONLY other female I put right alongside of her is the equally great & talented Sade Adu. Long live the 80's!!

I was 6. My parents would play Gloria's albums when I used to help them with delivering newpapers. I may have been young but Mrs. Estefan's music was beautiful and just made me feel good just listening to it. Good times :-)

In 1988 my mother couldn't take care of me, so i went to my new "parents". A dutch couple with 2 other childeren of their own. I remember, that mother listen a lot to Gloria Estefan. Such good memories. It was on a farm without animals. Just a lot of flowers. I feel happy when i hear this song. Feel like a litle girl again.

In 1989 I listen to the song I was a teenager back then and my girlfriend went back to England she was an exchange student she said that she was never coming back to the States and when this song was playing on the radio I listen to it over and over my first girlfriend was from England I come to find out later she was crying because she was truly in love with me and I was with her in love with her 2 years later we got married and we're still married to this day with 5 beautiful kids the grown up now thank you for this beautiful song video on RU-vid

Rickie Louca I remember a tour HBO did for her that was broadcast toward Cuba or rather the speakers . It was Live and a nice concert . Her music held a moment in time with the girl I was dating at the time . Yeah kinda corny thinking back to it now .

I agree it should have charted better, the singles that followed this did better in the billboards. "Anything for you" and "1-2-3." The previous singles, including this one and "Betcha Say That." Didnt do as well.

1:57 the best part. Seems like the song is ending then she goes "Hold on, to every bit of hope" (Laura from 7th grade call me) How the music builds up to the chorus. All the instruments including her are beautiful (there's a fn harp in this song.) My favorite Gloria Estefan ballad. One of the best love songs ever.

There are not many songs today that are comparable to the songs of yesteryear. This song is a perfect example. It still sounds great, even being almost thirty years old.
