Very cool. And you make a very good point that GLUT-2 is uniquely positioned in the liver to serve as a carrier protein efficiently capable of EXPORTING glucose from hepatic cells (as opposed to the other GLUTs that cannot participate in gluconeogenesis-produced glucose).

Very informative video, I have been using the FreeStyle libre sensor with Nightrider Blucon. It allows me to read my bloods without having to prick my fingers. I can see exactly the state of my bloods and what has happen. It provides a clear picture of how food and exercise affect my bloods. I feel I can control my diabetes a lot better.

Great Video! Just a quick correction: The (human) pancreas has GLUT1 transporters in its beta-cells (GLUT2 are typically found in the pancreas of mice). This important as the Km is far lower, hence giving the pancreas the ability to respond to lower glucose concentrations.
@syedumar6691
@syedumar6691 4 года назад
I think pancrease does have GLuT2 bcz pancrease should release insulin when glucose conc is high so receptors on pancrease should be of low affinity type

Hello JJ Medicine is Stomatin importend in de proces of glucose transporter? How does it connect en does glut and stomatin connect? Does STOM gene/ stomatin>protein have a function. in glucose transport? Do you know what this is concerns a new (de novo) change in the Stomatin (STOM) gene. This is the letter change in the DNA c.403A> G, and at the protein level: p.N135D

So if the hearts glucose supply is insulin dependant, does the heart itself not become insulin resistant, and does this not lead to heart failure?

Could you explain me something ? As our sugar level jumps insuline is ejected and glucose is stored in our liver. So why glut 2 is insulinn independent.Maybe its not glut 2 job in insuline response(another of 12 gluts family ) ?
@affzor
@affzor 6 лет назад
Most of the glucose is actually used by our cells as energy and the rest is being stored in the liver and in skeleton muscles.
@syedumar6691

When there is increase in glucose concentration with help of GLUT2 liver take glucose in and due increase in insulin level liver forms glycogen and fattyacids
