It’s a great transmission when you don’t beat the shit out of it with a 5.3 and you don’t tow in tow haul and let it go into overdrive my family has had many of them we changed the fluid and filter every 35k and she worked great my dad even beat the shit out of his in his avalanche constant 6000 rpms went 220k take care of them also when you get a bad one that sucks lol might as well rebuilt it or do a 4l80e swap now says but take care of it

I put my mother's 4l60e to work hauled 5 tons of metal to the scrap in a Astro taken changed the trans fluid the next day.

My '97 K2500 3-4 clutch pack went out. During the $2100 rebuild research revealed that there's a factory ground that is intermittent. A Service Bulletin was issued but no dealer tranny tech I spoke with was aware of it. Lucky THERE IS a YT video that shows you the SB script and walks you through performing the SB. It's all done under the hood from the top and is nothing more than relocating pin locations from one connector to another and installing a jumper between to achieve a good ground. The SB kit is $98 from the dealer, has to be ordered from the factory (and I NEVER received it). I went to a salvage yard and de-pinned two terminals (cutting the wire back for excess length, inserted into new locations, reattached cannon plugs and made final length from that / butt spliced/heat shrinked/and attached placard tag (per SB verbage) over splice.

My 4l60e went out at 345k miles before it stopped shifting i still have 1st and reverse saving up for reman transmission when they get high milage avoid redlining gears and heavy acceleration let it gradually get to speed they will last long time

Right above the valve body going to the back of the transmission

How did they get the approval to release this Transmission to consumers with so many issues? Shenanigans. . . .

Before I watch this video I can tell you that this transmission was built to fail from the very beginning and long the way it was cheapened up as time went on. That's what GM thinks about their customers...don't care about them. But expect repeat sales. The current corporate mind set.
