Gmod Maps That Just Keep Going Deeper

love the idea of it being in the Half-Life universe. Usually I roll my eyes at the wrecked cars standing in for normal vehicles but it all worked here.

It's a real problem and a lot of the root cause is that people frequently make content that somehow finds a way to be condescending to children. Take a look at RU-vid gaming stuff marketed at kids. It's fast, uninformative, and doesn't provoke meaningful thought. It's allowed to happen because it makes money for the platform.

​@@user-ou3vc3yp4y to summarise, at every moment you're using RU-vid millions of channels are competing for your attention, because every second of watch time is valuable. If you can get a person to watch your content then that can become a subscriber, enough subscribers means that RU-vid can recognize you as a big enough channel to start getting paid for making videos, you are paid by the veiws per video as well as the watch time of your viewers. RU-vidrs basically gather viewer attention like a resource that they can then trade with RU-vid for both money and a chance to be highlighted by the RU-vid recommendation algorithm which then helps to expand a RU-vidr's influence even further. TLDR; it's an admittedly slightly goofy name for the inner workings of how the channels you watch are paid and promoted on RU-vid.

Yeah industrial-type games from that era have a vibe that precious few things have been able to capture. The game Dusk came pretty close though.

Yeah, that is an extremely interesting premise for a game. Kind of like "Only Up!" but down instead. And with non-stolen assets. As for The Pit, I actually did record background footage of it for the start of the video, but ultimately decided to go with gm_potionbottle_cave instead. Maybe I'll get to feature it in a part 2...?

Reminds me a good bit of Scanner Sombre. You wake up in a cave with nothing but your LIDAR scanner and headset to view what it scans. Everything is completely pitch black and you can only see what you scan. Game very much has a 'just keep going down' vibe to it, even though there are segments where you go up. Highly recommend checking it out, it's cheap (on sale right now for $1.79) and Jacob Geller recommends it too.

It really is the questions that don't have immediate answers that make these maps so interesting. You can search high and low for a reason, but ultimately, they leave the player to create their own explanations. Such an interesting art form.

as someone with 1800 hours on the game and a big fan here are some suggestions :D (apologies of one of these were featured in your previous videos, i just have alot of reccomendations) first pick would be gm_fork and gm_boreas, made by the same creator, THE outdoors map, they are both massive, with lots of cool points of interest, boreas even has a missile silo open maps where something CLEARLY isnt right rp_necro_forest_revamped gm_russia gm_vacant_industry (HIGHLY recomend, one of my all time favourite maps) gm_abbysalplain (takes place very deep underwater) Autumn 2001 Ashpit (reccomend, thick with atmosphere, lots of secrets to find & figure out ;D) gm_shambles gm_chaparral_night Ocean at Rest rp_desolation gm_void_edge maps where something clearly isnt right, but more linear gm_descent (by Aleks, not Stubs) Places from your dreams Mismanagement Bro said he knew a spot (thats the actual name im not kidding, it wouldve been perfect for this video though, since its very deep) Thats ALOT, i really hope you include some of these in your videos :D finally, this doesnt fit into any category gm_construct 13 Beta its just a construct map but it has alot of stuff hiding under the surface, enough to deserve its own video, youll see what i mean :)
