OMG, I finally got taken to Byron Bay by my cousins who moved to Coolangatta from Melbourne. They were raving about it saying that it was just the coolest place in the world; and what do we see when we get there? A beach (wow!), surfers (wow!) a lot of people sitting on a beach (wow!), a pub (wow!) and a lot of bourgeois bohemia on display (wow!). Oh, and a beach-side town that looks like any other beach-side town in Australia (wow!). They proceeded to drive us all around the town where all the rich people live (wow!). By the end of it all we were so underwhelmed and bored we couldn't wait to get back to Coolangatta (which we actually preferred much more in every way). That place is the result of an incredible marketing campaign and nothing more. Seriously don't waste your time unless you live within close proximity, it's just not worth it. The lighthouse was good though.
