The video that Bulma and her father watched wasn't part of the original series. TFS wanted to give 16 more depth, so they actually got a friend to animate the recorded message. They really went above and beyond with season 3.

Hearing Goku yelling kemehameha before he kills Gero's son is absolutely one of the best bits of worldbuilding.

Never noticed this till the commentary recently, but when the book hits Chi Chi in the head, you can hear the ghost of Grandpa Gohan say "Boo!". I hate that I never noticed it.

5:19 not the worst thing they've gotten a crowd to say at a convention. In an Australian convention for Hellsing Ultimate or something, Lani did the "gentlemen. Vi. Are Nazis" and the crowd said "ZIG HAIL. ZIG HAIL" like the scene, and Lani nervous laughing in his head "What have I done"

Android 16's Hidden Video: This is a complete addition to the story by TeamFourStar, and very well played. The sound is (obviously) the base Dr. Gero's son (now Android 16) is stationed at getting attacked by some unknown force. What is this this force? Its Goku single-handedly destroying the Red Ribbon Army as a child. To include Gero's son. Now there's finally an explanation as to why he is so adamant about killing Goku. This doesn't get explained anywhere, so here you go.

Fun Fact: A group of slugs is called a cornucopia. So, 9:21 when they're talking about groups of things and Piccolo says a group of Namekians are called a cornucopia, it's just another layer that reinforces Namekians are slug people.

So we aint gonna talk about Gohan being stressed out due to his parents being "loud" in the background during the opening intro😂😂

Kirby's "never heard of sex before" reactions never get old

9:20 Namekian Deets: Namekians can create life by splitting a portion of their life off. It makes them age every time they do it significantly, which is why there were old namekians on Namek... they were making babies like Dende. When creating their children they can choose the traits they will have. When Piccolo and Kami split, they were both from the dragon clan, but when Goku killed King Piccolo he put all his remaining life into his son, the new Piccolo, and created him as an elite Namekian Warrior, making our piccolo stronger than his father which is why Goku had to train to win.

That was the first time we see Popo smile after Kami's disappearance and that me happy. 😁

When TFS had the convention for Hellsing and had the VA for the German guy, he started the first speech and the crowd went “Zeg Heil! Zeg Heil!” and it freaked him out

I loved that little interaxtion between Golu and Bulma. People forget, Goku and Bulma have basically been best friends since she was 16. Even the main show kinda forgot about that after a while. It was nice to see her be genuinely happy for him

Kirby got uncomfy so many times in this episode. I think she broke her record of nine times.

This is the densest episode of the whole series, when you realize how many critical points it hits. 16’s origins, the legendary sex jokes onslaught, the technical introduction of “Mr” Perfect Cell, the introduction of Mr Satan, the reintroduction of Dende, and Mr Popo becoming happy again. Like, that’s insane when you take a step back.

1. In a recent creator commentary TFS basically collectively agreed that this is their funniest episode/ the one they're most proud of from a comedy standpoint 2. Gero basing 16 off of his son was actually something Toriyama only retconned into the lore years down the line, but it was TFS who changed it in their version that he was one of the people who died back when Goku destroyed the Red Ribbon Army.

Basically what that was that video was Gero's son. Akira toriyama had actually confirmed on it in an interview that Android 16 was based off of Dr Gero's son and was the reason for the cyborg / Android manifestation to hunt down and kill goku

I remember the comment section tried to warn you guys that Return of Cooler spoils Dende ascension to godhood. It doesn't in the abridged version. In the original version did and it aired a whole year before the event happen. The abridged version basically rewrote it to Goku's gang being invited to a party on New Namek but the end of the movie had them misread Dende's note and show him at Earth wondering where everyone is. Also, I'm surprised you got the Tom Hanks reference.

14:09 Funny thing is, that's pretty much canon. And we learn in the most recent move (Super Hero) the way to power up Shenron is to _pour water_ on the statue. Gotta love the way Toriyama takes the piss sometimes.

Gero’s son, the one Android 16 was designed after, died to Goku on May 12th. Early in the morning. The Androids showed up on an island nine miles south of West City on May 12th at 10am. It’s chilling, man.

Vegeta actually spent some time building Nappa using a volleyball and a broom with enough balance to have conversations with instead of training. His fans are right. That is some character development.

(Skip to the bottom if there's too much) The added scene of Gero's Son was the most amazing abridged addition of any series ever. In the original, Gero hated Goku because he attacked the red ribbon army and wiped them out. He was a guy who lost his (admittedly incompetent) employer. Not exactly the best reason. They found out Gero did have a son that 16 was based on who had died from a stray bullet working for Red Ribbon. It's the smallest of story edits, but making Goku's biggest atrocity of 'destroying the bad guys' base and everybody in it' having repercussions that extend into being the cause of Gero? It's perfect. Especially because the son seems like an extremely nice person and might have been a genuinely nice guy, just doing what he did to support dad. It's almost tragic to think that this version of Gero isn't just the remnants of an army, but a grieving genius who lost his son and wife, and devoted himself to killing his son's killer. Hell, there's no animation on Brief's face, but you can hear in his voice and see in the camera work that he is shaken to his core. I imagine his thought process was something akin to 'That could have been my Bulma. And I would be doing exactly what he's doing.' He doesn't even have anything quippy, jokey, or criticizing/complimenting to say outaide of just responding. I know this is going on too long, but the long and short of it is this. That added video in 16 is probably one of the most important pieces of lore that doesn't exist in canon that I have ever seen, and turns gero from a mad scientist to a genuinely justified grieving father, and I love it. And it shows the viewers a taste of the rather cold blooded killer that is Goku from OG DragonBall.

And now we know why vegeta is attracted to Bulma. Bulma - I shot Goku in the face when I first met him Vegeta - bedroom, now.... And that my friends is where Pam enters the picture.

TFS's cheering is better than the actual shows cheering. That ones just "Hercule rules!"

We've been wait for Kirby to get here for SO long, though I do hope she goes back I think she missed a few things and this is just an episode just PACKED with jokes/reference. My 2 favorite parts the "Hail Satan" chant that almost got her into a dance, and watching her react to the "video" in 16s head you could kind of see the gears turning on the bigger implications of it.

Goku only looked 12 when he killed King Piccolo. But he was 12 during during the first Martial Arts Tournament and King Piccolo wasn't until after the second Martial Arts Tournament which was 3 years later. So Goku was at least 15 he could have honestly been 16 because we know that a year passed between the end of the Pilaf Saga and the beginning of the Red Ribbon Saga but the exact days are unaccounted for to the best of my knowledge. But at minimum he had to be at least 15
