Excellent film

Lovely movie

The only flaw of this film is that they didn't show the mom's story with 'Johns'(in real life James Baldwin's) biological father.

@1:17:00 I hate when people do that. First of all, why is she questioning a child about his mother coming to church? Then, the answer that he gave her as to why his mom wasn't coming, wasn't good enough for her, talking about how she's not too tired to come to church. How would she know how tired that woman is and why is it her business whether she comes to church, anyway? Like she doesn't have her own sins and transgressions to focus on. Whether that woman comes to church or not is God's business and therefore, shouldn't be of much concern to her nosey, busy-body behind. She ought to be worrying about what she, herself, has been doing all week, instead of focusing on who's gonna make it to church on that one particular day to repent. I know it's just a movie but I'm so annoyed because that type of nosey, busy-body attitude and audacity still remains in the church today and that's one reason why people, particularly black people, have gotten away from the church. There are just too many self appointed judges and saints, with no life and nothing better to do but roam around getting into people's business.

John is such a sweet child and innocent. His father makes me want to barf. Johnny mom is sweet and quite. I am a thunderstorm when it would comes to a child and older people. Johnny is such a sweet child and a innocent soul. Elizabeth maybe quiet and let her husband be mean and hateful to her child and favor the other one, not me I would not stand for it. I would love both of my sons and I would not favor one over the other. I would love my first born. As for my husband he would feel my wrath in a bad way

Compared to the book, this movie was terrible! Just re-watched it last night. The unabridged book and audiobook is amazing! Don't waste your time on this disaster if possible.
