Goan Green Chutney is vibrant green color chutney, primarily made of coconut and fresh coriander leaves. It is spread on buttered bread to make delicious chutney sandwiches which is a common snack for parties and picnics. This chutney is very versatile. It can be used as a dip with pakoras, idlis, dosas, etc., as a stuffing in fish or also as an accompaniment with rice. There are many ways to prepare green chutney but this is how most Goans prepare it.
Ingredients:
1 cup freshly scrapped coconut
1 cup fresh coriander leaves
1/2 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
3 green chillies, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 inch ginger
1 medium onion (roasted), chopped
1 small marble sized ball of tamarind
2 pinches of turmeric/haldi powder
Salt, to taste
Sugar, to taste
Water as needed (2-3 tbsp approx.)
