You had no communication with tcm and ecm because if you look on the computer data lines schematic the can high and can low probably go in and out of tcm to get to ecm
It's a Power Probe. One side connects to the battery, then the tip reads what is present. You can also apply 12V or ground to go to the tip with a button. Really cool tool.
