***This is NOT a how-to installation video. This is only a sped-up version of my personal installation process of a Gobi Ladder on my Jeep WK.
Installation time: Less than an hour
Difficulty scale: 1/5 (not even remotely difficult)
Besides the head scratcher with the incorrect allen wrench size, quality of the ladder itself is overall very well done : )
My personal lead time receiving this item from the day of ordering:
25 weeks
Specs of my WK in this video:
-2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7l V6 QT1 w/ QD2 manual ELSD's front and rear
-3.73 differential ratios
-OME Lift HD Rear, MD Front (Hub to fender: 22" front, 21.5" rear) w/ rear Bilstein 5100 shocks
-Stock wheels, no wheel spacers on 245/75/17 AT's
-Factory-style tow hooks painted red, front and rear
-Spyder Halo Headlights
-Surco 50" x 60" Safari Rack w/ flooring kit and x4 KC Lites
-The Steel Armadillo CB Mount with 4' CB Firestick Antenna
-Custom budget $15 awning
-Retrofitted 1998-2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Snorkel to work with stock airbox
-A bunch of other overland/camper goodies that I can't list all at once

God your Jeep is tight. I just got one just like yours, but limited and 4.7l. Yours is setup how I want mine!

That's awesome 😁👍. Good luck with your Jeep! I've had mine since I was 17 (1st car). I'm 24 now and she's still running strong 💪. 4.7 is definitely a lot more powerful with that Low range option

Awesome video man. Who makes your roof basket, and is it mounted on the factory cross bars? 2006 5.7L, QDII. Thanks for sharing!

The basket is a Surco safari rack. I believe it’s a 50” x 60”, but if I had to do it again, I would’ve chose the 50” x 72” option. And yes they’re mounted to the factory roof rack rails but use their own included cross bars that come with the rack in the box. Pretty decent weight capacity on it too as I’m able to stand on it and mount solar panels to the top. Also made of aluminum so I never have to really worry about it rusting. I also run the actual Gobi Ranger rack on my 2nd WK. (Planning to make a video on that soon) and that’s also great, if not better. Much better load capacity, has the ability mount a roof rack tent onto the existing rack, but requires factory roof rack rails to be removed. A little more pricier though. The Surco Safari rack setup is definitely more budget friendly at just under $500.

The ladder sure ads a lot to the rig. BTW, where did you get the snorkel?
@TheValleyofAwesome
@TheValleyofAwesome Год назад
It's a retrofit of a Toyota Land Cruiser snorkel. (Don't have a year model off the top of my head, but I can find out again if you needed to know) They sell dedicated WK snorkels, but no way am I paying $500+ for a piece of plastic on the side of my Jeep. Retrofitting the Land Cruiser snorkel only costed roughly $80 on Amazon. However, if I were to do another retrofit, I would've gotten a Toyota Hilux snorkel. It would fit much more flush to the body than the Land Cruiser one that's currently on now.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I would like to know the name of the manufacturer so I could look up the WK specific model.

Looks good! I've been looking into installing a ladder myself but couldn't find a reputable brand. I like Gobi but they usually run quite high in their products, all for good reason though. Might have to bite the bullet and make the purchase. I've got a modified OME HD all around, looking into getting Bilsteins in the future. How are you liking them? 05' 5.7 HEMI here. Been sinking too much money into it since the purchase beginning of the year. It's become a well worth hobby though!
@TheValleyofAwesome
@TheValleyofAwesome 2 года назад
Thanks : ) The ride quality is pretty good since 20k. Hardly noticeable over stock tbh if not better. Going to bump up my OME lift to a modified OME and run Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts up front as well by next year tho, so ride quality may change. And yeah the ladder was pain-stakingly awful to wait for. (25 weeks for mine). But once I got it in my hands it was absolutely worth it, and it's definitely useful. If I'm not mistaken, Gobi also offers expedited shorter lead times if you pay them a little more. You just have to ask them about it. They put you more ahead of the cue but I didn't do that option tho.

@@TheValleyofAwesome Nice! Any plans on upgrading wheels and tires? That's my next major purchase as I've replaced most all IFS components, transmission, JBA UCA's and more. (With much more on my wish list!) I'm sitting at around 23.5" front and back so I need to accommodate underneath to decrease long term issues. If I go any higher I'll have to diff drop and purchase lots of HD components, but that's too large of a project I'd like to take on myself. So far, nothing shows serious long/short term failure or issues but I'm on less than a month after installing. I'm sure I'll see some settling in the next year or so as most users claim a .5" decrease with the OME after a while. Currently running 265/70/17 tires and they need replaced. I'm hoping to fit some 33s as I have plenty of room, extended my bump stops and executed the pinch weld but we shall see. Also looking for some affordable black wheels with the proper backspace/offset. Anyways, I'm done rambling. Enjoying this series and hope to see more mods in the future. It's a rarity to see WKs with mods so it's interesting to see what others have done!

@@lucasking9747 Dang, running 33's was my same plan too next summer 😅. (33x10.5/17's). Haven't figured out wheels yet, but I know I have to get some sort of offset because the current tires now barely clear the upper steering knuckle without any bolt trimming or wheel spacers. My WK's steering rack doesn't have any issues at 22" and I also have some Jeeperf Superflex inner tie rods for when I do that 23" bump. Curious tho that you're at 23.5" with no issues. 👀 Really tempting me to try now lol. I also have a JJOffroad 1.75" diff drop laying around in the garage, but I might only install it if the CV's bust, just because the front driveshaft is also bound to fail after the diff drop from what experiences I've heard others have. Such an awesome series of Grand Cherokee tho : ) Just gotta test the waters with everything
@lucasking9747
@lucasking9747 2 года назад
@@TheValleyofAwesome I'd say you're safe to try it out as you have some backup parts! Something to keep in mind is that I just replaced lots of components (tie rods, front driveshaft, LCAs, CV's, etc) a month ago when I installed the lift, it could take some time to see any damage. Only about 1000 miles have been driven. The main reason I modified my OME is because a user on the WK forums executed my exact mod and verified that he had zero issues at this height even years later. He noted a 24.5 Front and back at first which settled to just under 24 after. I re-measured and I'm actually just above 24" in back and the front is just under 24". I may be pushing it at this height and I definitely wouldn't try it if I didn't replace other components. I may regret this in the future but I can always reverse the mod then if it starts to give me issues. I'm hoping with the slight extra weight of the HEMI, bumper guard and all my gear/tire and wheel loaded up in the back and top I'll be at a safer height. I'll get to this as soon as my guard arrives this week. Time will tell! This is my secondary vehicle luckily so I can test the waters for sure. You mentioned you had some Jeeperf inner tie rods. I was wondering where you purchased those from, I opted for some cheapo replacements from quadratrec for the meantime. I hear good things about Jeeperf but again, very high in $. Anyways, you should join us at the Jeep Forum and reddit WK/GC community if you haven't already. Lots of great discussion.

@@TheValleyofAwesome run a set off of a new rubicon. They look great and are way cheaper than most anything else you could want. I used to have them, but my 3.7 decided to end its life.

Where did you get the rock rails for wk they are great
@TheValleyofAwesome
@TheValleyofAwesome 11 месяцев назад
They are Steel Armadillo Rock Sliders. Unfortunately the owner retired and this is now a discontinued product. However, there’s rumors that a new owner bought the company out from him, so there’s a chance that they may sell again in the future.

Is it an inconvenience not being able to open the glass without opening the entire hatch? I’ve been on the fence about doing a ladder and that’s my biggest hesitation.
@TheValleyofAwesome
@TheValleyofAwesome 2 года назад
You do lose your ability to access your window hatch yes. However, it "somewhat" adds some security if you decide to pop open the window hatch to allow ventilation during very hot, blazing summers or high humidity. (you can pop open the window hatch and not worry about someone being able to break in while you're gone. The ladder itself only allows the rear window hatch to crack open about an inch. Not enough to stick a hand underneath). I found this feature pretty useful. The ladder is definitely a downer if you do frequently use your window hatch. But if not, it's not that big of a deal at all.

Hi, i am about to buy the same jeep but was wondering if you find your jeep lacking power without a low gear,. I had yj, tj xj and jk's and they all had low gear so its wird.not having a low gear.
@TheValleyofAwesome
@TheValleyofAwesome Год назад
As of now, I'm actually an owner of 2 WK series of Grand Cherokee. The first Jeep in this video (same Jeep that was my 1st car back when I was 16) does NOT have low range, but has aftermarket ELSD's front and rear. However, my 2nd 2008 WK that has QuadraDrive II "does" have low range + front and rear factory ELSD's. Absolutely phenomenal off road and also came factory with a pretty powerful 5.7 V8 HEMI under the hood. If you look for a little silver T-handle next to the transmission gear shifter, it should tell you the difference between whether yours is equipped with QuadraTrac I (no low range if missing) or a QuadraTrac II/QuadraDrive II (with low range if present).

Link for the brake light guards?

I purchased them on Amazon. Extremely easy to install, although my set for my Jeep came defective (slightly warped brackets). Had to bang out the mounting brackets with a hammer to make them fit properly into place without them scraping my Jeep's liftgate and rattling while driving. If you can, it's better to buy a set somewhere else other than Amazon, like 4WD.com or CarID. Amazon tends to sell counterfeit products that are not legit.

@TheValleyofAwesome
@TheValleyofAwesome 2 года назад
Unfortunately it's not a factory spec snorkel. It's technically a snorkel meant for a Toyota Land Cruiser 100 Series that I made work with her stock airbox. They DO sell dedicated WK snorkels but they don't look that great in my opinion (and is way too pricey for a piece of plastic). WK snorkel is around $499. Land Cruiser snorkel was around $70. HOWEVER, you will do a lot better retrofitting a Toyota Hilux snorkel than what I did with a Land Cruiser snorkel, as it would fit more flush and more clean against the body than the one my WK already has. Here's a link of what I'm talking about: 4wdprofishop.hu/en/snorkel_for_toyota_hilux_vigo_20052015_jeep_grand_cherokee_whwk_wjwg_right_side-p-142807.html
