@@AdrianColley The late black feminist attorney Flo Kennedy said " If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." The widow of a Southern Baptist pastor had a bumpersticker with that sentiment on her car. I miss both of these courageous women!
I look at it this way, If I die and find out God does exist. Then I can simply state I didn’t want to be lumped in with the ones I see hanging out at his house. Even if he’s never home.
If God actually, openly talked to His people like the god in these videos then I don't think that there would be any atheists. God would be so obvious and active that people would have to openly choose not to follow Him.
So...can I sue the Supreme Court for violating my religious rights since God gave us free will and I, as a woman, am no longer able to practice my God-given free will...especially regarding my body?!?
The problems are the churches. It is one person with their own agenda using "God", "Jesus", and "The Bible", as not only an excuse to preach to hundreds of mindless drones, but also permission to act on their ignorance. A real Christian would know that religion is personal and that not everyone in this world follows their religion nor should those beliefs be used to influence laws that govern an entire population.
Exodus 21:22-25 describes a case where a pregnant woman jumps into a fight between her husband and another man and suffers injuries that cause her to miscarry. Injuries to the woman prompt the normal penalties for harming another human being: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life. Killing the woman is murder, a capital crime. The miscarriage is treated differently, however -- as property loss, not murder. The assailant must pay a fine to the husband. The law of a life for a life does not apply. The fetus is important, but it's not human life in the same way the pregnant woman is.
@@tigre9271 Are you sure it is the fetus being valued? Babies and pregnancy are expensive and dangerous. Maybe this is just compensating the pregnant woman and her husband. This seems like confirmation bias. Whatever your preconceived idea of fetus value (minus equal to adult human) you could get the story to make sense in your value system.
And the bible they 'believe' is God's word wasn't the one written a few decades to a couple of centuries after the death of Christ, it's the one rewritten by King James' staff in the 15th century... and which shares very little with it's alleged "literal" predecessor. Glory.
@@ShmuelWeintraubHow intellectually dishonest are you? The KJV, while written in a functionally extinct dialect. Hardly edits any of the Views from the Volgate, which in turn is barely different from the Septuagint and Tanakh.
I am a man who not only cares about the women in my life, but all women in this country and they deserve to have complete autonomy for their own bodies not because me or any other man gives them permission, but because it is a basic human right to have authority for their own bodies.
@P¡nned By Mrs. Betty Bowers•• ❤️ you so much! You just made my day. Again. Although the subject makes my blood boil. For all the right reasons, like a woman's autonomy to make decisions about her own body. Long may you preach, Sister❤️
The US didn't start passing anti-abortion laws until the second half of the 19th century. The Catholic church only condemned abortion in 1869. Though many reasons are presented for all this, there is only one reason behind it all, and that is religious doctrine. So all anti-abortion laws are a violation of the separation of church and state in the Constitution.
Exactly. Abortion becamse illegal around the time that medicine was being "professionalized" ( that is, taken over by men who replaced the midwives, who were the main medical providers up until then.) This is when men really started having secular control over womens' medical decisions. Abortion was commonplace and legal at the time the Consitution was written. Those guys who wrote our Constitution were pretty smart. If they would have had a problem with abortion, they surely would have said something about it!
The Christian right (think John Birch Society) ramped up their war on abortion rights after it was clear they were losing their fight against integration. Before that Protestants saw it as a Catholic issue.
Same with gay marriage bans...oh, and banning teaching kids about comprehensive sex ed and the existance of trans people would (like intelligent design) also fail the same test. They really do hate America for our freedoms. And by "they" I mean Republicans, of course.

It occurs to me that the whole abortion/start of life argument is always from a Judeo/Christian perspective. How do other religions view this? Since there is supposed to be a separation of Church and State how can A religious viewpoint on abortion make the rules?
From what I understand (looked into this but not deeply) in Judiasm if the pregnancy is a threat to the mother's life it is her duty to save herself. In the Koran there is nothing against abortion. Same as how there is nothing against it in the Bible. In fact, in most of the Middle East abortion isn't forbidden. Welcome to the Middle East having better reproductive rights than America!
Does the Republican Party have any intentions to bring in laws against male masturbation and " wet dreams " and can we expect to see men and teenage boys hauled off to prison in their thousands ?
I had a Jesuit describe a fetus as an intraspecific parasite, which only changes to a human when it has left the womb and takes a breath. Never had much use for Leviticus, but it is fun to hypothetically apply Leviticus to modern day norms. But I see the point of the Jesuit. A fetus is completely dependent on the host and can cause the host great harm and presents a great draw in the hosts resources. If you have Trypanosoma brucei in you, no one would be expected to let it complete its life cycle in you to produce more Tsetse flies. So once again, the human male claims some sort of superior claim to the female body and demands the female do what the male demands. If the law said the man who caused the child was required to pay $500K to the mother to carry to term, admitting there are risks to the mother, and making her immune to any retaliatory tort if the child, the mother, or both died, then I could see an abortion as something men and women share in. But that ain't happening, and I cannot carry an intraspecific parasite to term, so I should have no say in the whole thing. But we have a bunch of nasty old white men who need women to be controlled by them.
Owen Kelly I had an older brother who actually believed god was going to burn up this entire universe and build us a brand new one, not once considering the physics involved, totally nuts! I even asked him where "god" was going to put everyone while he burned up this entire universe?, with god all things are possible, even the impossible, and although Betty Bowers does a great imitation of these right-wing-nuts. I couldn't get through to my late brother, who really was like this, with any reasonable logic.
Oh how I LOVED this video! God said so many of the same things that come to my mind as Roe V Wade hangs in the proverbial balance. Having read the Bible for comprehension earlier in life, it seemed to me that there's nothing there which condemns abortion--and much which seems to support it. Oh and FWIW, the Old Testament has the story of King Solomon-a name most Evangelicals probably recognize as being deemed as "wise" by Theologians, or so it seems to me. His 300 Wives and 700 Concubines underscore that marriage is NOT defined in the Bible as being "Between one man and one woman". How inconvenient....
That last paragragh still has me choking with laughter!!! Gonna find that then add it to my "Things to say when . . . " handy dandy pocket list. Grazi!

There is a long tradition of Christian magic. There is also a long tradition of explaining why it's OK. There were necromancy books that said, "It's not permitted, but (wink, wink,) if a person was to do this [insert very detailed description here]..."
If you are Christian, theoretically you believe God did come down and correct our errors but you are right, the religious establishment called him a blasphemer and crucified him. Since the USA was founded as a secular nation let's see what the Bible says: "1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience." Romans 23:1-5 (NIV).
