Hahahahah the slow zoom to the Florida State helmet 🤣🤣🤣 100% agree FSU was absolutely shafted! No way on earth an undefeated team ALREADY ranked 4th beats a 14 ranked team to win their conference title and then DROP out of the top 4?!? Criminal!

Seeing May December in the Musical/Comedy category is, in itself, pure comedy.

Seeing Joe Hisaishi being nominated for 'The Boy and the Heron' fills me up with joy.

The zoom-in on the FSU helmet is cinema.

We who truly understand and appreciate college football certainly feel your pain Dan about your beloved alma mater, and we all are horrified at how brutal this sport has become as a business thanks to the playoff selection committee.

As a huge anime fan I have grown numb to awards shows completely giving the middle finger to anime films, so to see both the boy and the heron AND Suzume as nominees was very surprising

If the Globes are trying to shed their controversial past, getting Wilmer Valderrama to announce the nominees was not a good choice

Mario and Wish getting nominated alongside Suzume and the Boy and the Heron is a real monkey's paw situation. Thrilled to see two anime films, but a bummer that we won't also see the likes of Nimona or TMNT. Edit: pleasantly surprised to see Hisaishi get recognition! I admit that I don't closely follow the score nominations for these shows, but I feel like they almost always seem to go to the "Best Picture" type films, which I get, but it isnt really a shock anymore. Genuinely believe some of his work can match the likes of artists like John Williams in terms of memorable music, but with a sort of wistfulness that is hard to explain, and perhaps a key component in Japanese music.

I just saw Holdovers and feel upset for the snubs. It was a beautiful and satisfying movie. Favorite of the season so far

I cannot put into words how thrilled I am to see Suzume and Joe Hisaishi nominated. Really hope the same happens at the Oscars, and that The Boy and The Heron wins Best Animated Film and Best Original Score. That Suzume nomination especially made my day because it was the first thing I saw when I woke up today, and the last thing I ever hoped/expected would happen this awards season. I would've loved to have seen Naoki Sato nominated for Best Original Score for Godzilla Minus One, but that was a long shot given how few people have probably watched that film. Really hope that award ends up going to Joe Hisaishi, which is insane to think bc I was so confident that no one could beat Ludvig Goransson for my favorite score of the year after I watched Oppenheimer. The REALLY crazy part is, I'm not even a fan of most modern Japanese media 😅 And yet suddenly I find that Suzume, The Boy and The Heron, and Godzilla Minus One are my top films this year 😂

May December is a parody of a Lifetime Original Movie, and I think that's how they're justifying its placement in the Comedy/Musical category... it's the kind of film that uses the aesthetic of a trashy Lifetime movie, and while it is dealing with very serious subject matters, part of the film's message is how any form of media can trivialize even the most horrific thing that can happen, no matter how well-intentioned it can be... I laughed quite a bit watching it, though most of it was uncomfortable laughter... I wouldn't call it a comedy myself, but this is the way it's being justified...

Hey Dan! Love to hear that you're getting more into awards coverage as one od those kooks who follows it year round. I hope you talk about the trifecta critics' circles and their awards in a future video. For now, i just want to recommend you watch Fallen Leaves whenever you get the chance. It is utterly delightful and easily my favourite film of the year. Alma Pöysti's nomination is so deserved!

... Why give an award for Box Office achievement? You can see which one made the most money. Maybe it's an award for unexpected record breakers? Like having Oppenheimer make a whole bunch of money in spite of it being a 3 hour long historical biopic which hasn't really been done before, or a video game adaptation being a box office juggernaut but it's so stupid, it's something that can be objectively measured. Didn't Dead Reckoning lose money? Or would have lost money if it weren't for the 57 million pounds it got as a subsidy?

Im not sure why its so surprising for Jennifer Lawrence to be nominated. She's not just a star they wanted to mingle with, she is legitimately good in that film (and hey at least its an actual comedic performance).

Achievement in box office is the dumbest category in movie award history. It rewards promotion, which by necessity is only affordable to the biggest movies. You could actually win this award by placing ads!

I haven’t seen May December yet, but I do follow a RU-vid channel that does movie reviews, MovieBitches, and they thought it was a dark comedy and laughed out loud at a “hotdog” scene, and Portman’s character filming a snake scene.

Past Lives is my favourite film of the year so seeing it get a lot of love made me very happy. Alma Pöysti's nomination was very pleasant surprise, and I jumped for joy at Suzume's recognition.

I didn't hear them pronounce her name but I based on yours it must've been "you tried" which is understandable. haha The film has been popular here in Finland and I would like to hear your opinion about it if you get to see the film. I was also very happy about the anime nominations and Joe Hisaishi!! He should've gotten one ages ago.

I've seen Napoleon on IMAX last month on AMC Montclair Mall in Cali and is okay but I almost slept in the theater 🤣

It’s always great to see some smaller stuff get the boost out of the Globes but really it’s just a list of celebrities they’d like to have at their party (and that realistically might come; Harrison Ford, for example, ain’t).

The "Best Blockbuster" category should just be honest... It's the "For the love of God, watch our awards show!" category.

I don't follow football, so I don't know what exactly Dan was referring to, but that slow zoom was one of the funniest jokes I've ever seen.

I think the blockbuster award is an excuse to continue ignoring them during awards season because they have a designated category. Like how animated movies aren't nominated for best picture ever since it got its own category in the 90s. This year there are a couple blockbusters that are also in the best film categories, but that's more a testament to those films than to the usefulness of the category.

was really interested to see barbie nominate 3 songs and nab the most nominations overall in the process, i'm curious if wb will employ the same tactic for oscars to try to give the film the most noms as i think it's probably their best path to do so, nabbing that headline and breaking the cycle of one song nominee per film to prevent a film competing against itself.

Maybe after award season, when the movies are slowing down a bit, you could do a "Awards Process: Behind The Scenes" type video explaining things that you hit upon in this video, such as deadlines and exactly WHY you aren't able to watch everything. I know a lot of it has to do with international stuff combined with the "Let's wait til the end of the year to release our movie, that way it'll be fresh in the minds of the awards people" mentality, but I'm *SURE* there's a lot that most of us don't know. And, of course, in your case I'm sure that you had one or two extra things going on this past Fall (again, congrats!)

For those saying that Godzilla Minus One got snubbed the thing is that they most likely missed the cut for eligibility given that it was a December release film.

My pipe dream nomination for best original score would be Goochie Goochie Goo from TMNT Mutant Mayhem. They don't usually go for electronic music, but Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross made that song go way harder than it should for a kids movie.

The studio for MAY DECEMBER submitted themselves in the Musical or Comedy category. The movie is a Black/Dark Comedy and there are many comedic moment in the movie.

Going through what has been crowned thus far (as of this posting) from various critics groups it looks like Charles Melton is the serious contender for this years Best Supporting Actor Oscar and that Divine Joy Randolph is his equivalent for The Holdovers. Paul Giamatti seems to be the current favorite for Best Actor (which I think would be a splendid win as he has been seriously overlooked in the past) with Emma Stone for Poor Things and Lilly Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon still duking it out for a lead performance. Both seem neck and neck at this point although that could change in the coming weeks. Perhaps a Sandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall upset? Best Film lock seems to be Killers of the Flower Moon with Best Director going to Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer. Anatomy of a Fall seems to be locked (at this point) for Original Screenplay with either Nolan (Oppenheimer) or Noah Bambauch/Greta Gerwig (for Adapted) Obviously we are only at the start of the awards season and there is still many more to come so much of this could rise or slide in the coming weeks.

As a kid I was obsessed with award shows but honestly growing older you see how it really doesn't celebrate cinema/tv. Dan's comments about nominating big celebs so they can attend really just reveals what these award shows are about.
