Guys, Oddjob played by Harold Sakata (born in Hawaii) was a US Olympics weightlifting champion.

This is my favorite Connery/Bond movie. The best part is when he's strapped to the table. He has no gadgets to save him, all he has is his wits and he's getting increasingly desperate as the laser is inching closer.

In Goldfinger, Gert said that the gold will be radioactive for 58 years. 1964 + 58 = 2022

The actor that played Goldfinger, is the same chap that played the toy loving King in "Chitty Chitty bang bang".

Love this movie. Huge fun with Connery so effortlessly cool and charismatic. The inside of Fort Knox in the movie is a huge gorgeous set by the genius production designer Ken Adam. While the first two Bonds were very successful it was with Goldfinger where Bond Films became a global phenomenon with follow up Thunderball being even more successful.

Trivia: Gert Fröbe the actor of Auric Goldfinger where bad at english, so all his lines where dubbed by Michael Collins.

Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore) was a huge Star in the UK. She played Cathy Gale on popular TV series, The Avengers. She played a Secret Agent who teams up with Agent John Steed (Patrick Macnee) to stop different bad guys each week. She left the series to do this movie. She was replaced in the series by Diana Rigg playing Mrs. Emma Peel. In one of the episodes John Steed gets a Christmas Card from Cathy Gale. He looks at it and says "What ever is she doing in Fort Knox".

This was my first Bond film. I saw it at my neighborhood theater in 1964. Christ, I'm...Argh! And, on a curious note, all the American gangsters were played by British actors. Mr. Solo was played by Martin Benson, British.

Harold Sakata’s Olympic silver medal was for weightlifting. He got into professional wrestling after, initially in the US as well as Japan.

You asked where the Fort Knox scenes were filmed. Both the interior and exterior were sets built at Pinewood Studios. The exterior set was built on the backlot. Incidentally, the alley where Bond crashes the Aston Martin, the wall and archway where the beheaded statue stands and the garden at the end were also on the Pinewood lot.

Fleming knew Erno Goldfinger, a Hungarian Architect but they didn't get on so he made him the villain in his book series, or one of them.

I love this movie. It's the first 007 film where all the (typical) Bond ingredients we have come to know from later movies came together (blueprint for future Bond's). It is one of those movies where 'all things really come together'; the plot, the cinematography, the acting, the scenery and settings, the colors and ofcourse the music; that fantastic score by John Barry. This movie is simply 'Gold' for me ;-)

The Bond movies always go back and forth between being more silly with lots of gadgets and spectacle and then going back to basics with a more grounded film. This one is somewhere in between, but it certainly put the series on a path towards more spectacle and lightheartedness. The name was actually taken straight from the novel by Ian Fleming. Fleming did always love to give his Bond girls "interesting" names xD

Pussy Galore is an actual character in the Goldfinger novel. The next new Bond is George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service

In the last movie the villain was SPECTRE..Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion..remember they were only using the Russian. unknowing Tatiana Romanova and for the British.. Bond which they deduced would their agent of choice ..to get the "Lektor" a Russian decoding machine..which they planned to sell..and already had a buyer for it..SPECTRE is an ever present threat to MI6.

At the golf course Bond blames some film reel being exposed to Goldfinger's cat. And he gives it to Oddjob to eat. His underlings are supposed to be North Korean.

Currently, there is 147.3 million ounces of gold in the Fort Knox depository. The valuation uses a book value of $42.22 per oz. which comes to about 10.5 trillion dollars. If it were valued using the current exchange rate of $1000.00 per oz., the total would be closer to 147 Trillion dollars. The US abandoned the gold standard fully in 1971. Before the great depression you could take any US currency $10 or more to a bank and exchange it for it's value in gold. It actually used to say so on our money. Now US currency only has value because the government says it does. Also, that's why you can't buy a house for $10,000.00 anymore due to inflation and the devaluation of the dollar.

So, about the Bond actors: You've got 2 more from Connery to go. Next is actually George Lazenby, who only did one Bond film, but it's one of my favs. It's very different than Connery's last couple of Bond films and has gotten a lot of reappraisal in recent years. After Lazenby left the role (his agent told him that the Bond films would never survive the end of the 60s), Connery came back for one last film. Then we have Roger Moore taking over until the mid 80s. From then on Timothy Dalton gets to end the 80s era of Bond with his 2 films (also favorites of mine). Brosnan takes after in 1995 and is Bond until 2002. And afterwards we've got Craig until today. Hope this was helpful :)

From here on, there's a string of just fun Bond movies, some more than others. But they're not quite as gritty or as serious as From Russia With Love. Thunderball is a little back to basics, but it's primarily about going bigger and bigger for pretty much the rest of the 60s. Maurice Binder is responsible for some of the more outlandish sets at the series goes along.

Another good reaction. I’m with you laughing at the over the top elements but understand that when this movie was new it was exciting not funny to us. Everyone saw the Bond movies. They were over the top and we loved them.

Ian Fleming came up with the name Pussy Galore and in the novel she's a lesbian. She was played by Honor Blackman who had starred in the action/espionage show THE AVENGERS. She was five years older than Sean Connery
