Great to watch a craftsman do amazing work. Ive had that same driver and shaft for over 15years. Still love the feel and look of the club head compaired to the massive heads of today. Very interesting watching.

just bought this exact club on ebay- glad I watched this video. I'm thinking I might just drill out the old shaft rather than take a chance on messing up that internal shim/sleeve you were talking about.

I still have the same Driver @9.5 on a TourAD shaft. Still accurate and sometimes out drives my newer drivers. 👍👍👍

I still use a 905r. The only thing that makes today’s drivers “better,” is that, for the amateur golfer, you’ll get better dispersion numbers due to the tech. But if you have a decent swing, you can play this driver all day long. If there is one complaint that i has about this driver, is that it doesn’t quite feel like a 975J off the face. If you are an exceptional ball striker, that 975J can keep up with any modern driver. A 975J outdrives my more modern Ping G400 Max by about 15 yds, but don’t mishit it!

I just witnessed art work. Jim shows so much care in what he’s doing. I’ve had experiences with many clubmakers over the years, and most of them just get things done as fast as possible, sometimes leaving epoxy, little scratches and just general mediocre attention to detail. Jim is not that. He cares about his trade. As time goes by, we are going to lose people that care and demand perfection out of themselves. Great job Jim!

A couple years ago I pulled the shaft from a bore thru 907 D1, was very difficult to remove. Have been waiting for this vid ever since. Now I feel I can do it. Thanks for the instruction.

The simplest of all bore thru heads to reshaft. That aluminum sleeve made those clubs a pleasure to pull apart.

Hmmm. I have a 905 F in 16.5°. Beauty of a club and perfect for 230-250 yard shots into a green. There is enough spin that the ball just drops and stops. Everyone I try out a hybrid to replace it...just doesn't feel right. And the sound off the face...so nice...just a short, light 'Ting' and it's on the way. LoL.

Anyway, I've wondered if I should get my 905 Fairway re-shafted to work with my new swing technique. Hard to say without a fitting session.

Another option is to partially drill out old shaft and make club standard bore.
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 года назад
That’s been done and as long as you get about 1.5” insertion, I’m not a fan but have done them
@Bmarino9090
@Bmarino9090 2 года назад
That’s referred to as a blind bore and would allow you to use any shaft without the risk of stiffening the tip too much.

Another brilliant video Jim, those Graffoloy Blue shafts are like gold dust here in the UK, I've been looking for a couple of months . I have a question I hope you can help me with. I have managed to obtain a complete set of gorgeous Wischon 550M forged iron heads 4-sw plus A wedge with separate Series 5 stiff steel shafts 112 gms weight. All are brand new and never assembled. I do not own a frequency machine YET as I'm just starting to make clubs as a hobby. I propose to trim the shafts in line with Wischon TRIMCHART E suggestions, will this give me a reasonable performance. Heads and shafts are spot on for specified weights but will need to add a few grams to ensure 7 gram club progression through set. Any advise would be greatly appreciate. Colyn Miles Surrey ENGLAND

Great job Jim. Skillful work. I wish I had that talent. Question: Did the bore throughs prevent club breakage? Who still uses them?
@McGolf

Unfortunately no. In the shorter bore thru they broken more

Hi Jim , great video, can I ask why you don’t use a hot air gun to remove heads from woods? Doesn’t damage paint work ?
@krusher74
@krusher74 2 года назад
hot air guns don't pinpoint heat very well, you would get the whole head very hot instead of concentrating the heat just at where the glue is.

If I were to use the same kind of shaft on a Titleist TSi3 head (To have the same feel as my 905R), how much tip trim should I do? Thanks!
@McGolf
@McGolf Год назад
unfortunately, I would say feel wont be the same as the insertion of the 905 is just so much it is hard to compensate using the same shaft. If Get the question you are probably looking for a VERY low torques shaft in the same weight

As someone with 30 years plus as an independent professional clubmaker I would advise that you cannot reshaft this particular driver in the way shown. What he has achieved is putting a 7 would flex into a driver. The shaft used should have a tip insertion of 1.5 inches if fitted into a driver and not 3.75 inches. The only way to properly install that particular shaft into this Titleist driver would be a blind bore fitting. The other critisism I would have is that the shaft was not spined prior top fitting so would not be in a stable position.
