GOLF LESSONS HAVE TO CHANGE V3 SHOT SCOPE 

Shot Scope V3 is an excellent watch. I had the V2 and got the V3 early because of it. They have updated it a couple of times since this review. They increased the sensitivity of the watch to further limit missed shots (very rare now). They added a feature where it displays on the watch face what the last club was that it detected so that you can ensure that it picked up your club. Very handy when you choke up on the club to make sure that it was registered. They also added a feature where you can easily check how far your last shot went. Nice for checking a sweet drive. The company is excellent and very responsive. The watch is very accurate and tells you all the hazard information. Very easy to read and the battery lasts for two rounds (I did it twice this last week). About 9 hours of gps+tracking per charge. Could not say enough good things about this golf watch/tracker.

I am an early adopter of ShotScope and used the V2 for a couple of years before buying a pre-release version of the V3. The issue of inadvertently pressing buttons has been resolved by having an auto-lock function. Now, if you need anything other than front, middle and back distances, you have to press the bottom left button to unlock the device. As you suggested the device does have some issues, quite a few actually - I've just sent a 30 page report on these issues to shotscope. Nonetheless this device does all the basics, for the most popular courses, really well and does seriously help you understand what you need to do to play better. However, be prepared for a lot of post round editing, especially for some of the less well known courses. Don't try post round editing on your smartphone. The screen is too small for the easy selection of shots and pin positions - you can see the raw captured data right after the round on your smartphone - but wait until you get to your desktop device with a mouse pointer to do the post round editing. One final tip, don't wait until you get to the first tee to switch on the device. I have encountered 2, 3 and even 4 minute delays before the device finds the course. AND keep an eye on the device while your making your way to the first tee. If the device finds the course and you don't quickly confirm, the device defaults to the at rest screen and you'll need to start the course selection process all over again. Notwithstanding all the usability issues and inconveniences, the V3 is better than the V2 AND it's head and shoulders above any other device on the market. It will just take a good few firmware updates to sort out the issues that anyone can find and ShotScope are definitely a responsive, helpful, customer facing company. So don't hesitate to start collecting your stats with the V3 now.

Really good review Mark, thanks. Love the integration of the features as you went through it. I had looked at this recently and thought it looks fantastic (currently using Garmin approach x40 which is really good but does interfere with round if I want to capture shots on the course). I understand what strokes gained are my thing was not knowing how to capture and then compare. I think the fact this this collects the pin location allows it to do those calcs for you (I assume) and so I can could use that info as opposed to have to collect it myself (somehow). Will you do one when they have the strokes gained or their equivalent soon please?

"I want to collect stats" - in fact, I already do. I picked up a V2 from ebay earlier this year and I just LOVE the stats it gives me. Club selection is much more of a science now and it is helping my game tremendously! Can't justify shelling out for the V3 as the V2 does 90% of what the V3 does in a slightly bigger form factor. So simple on the course and so detailed on the computer. I would encourage everyone to get this - or another device which gives real stats. You will need to be prepared to see that all those 300 yard drives are actually only around 240!! (The golfer's equivalent of the angler's 'one that got away!)

Great video mark, and seeing as this is now reduced to £165 seems a great buy. Loved the working through the analysis of your game via the app, gaining a true number for distance you hit your ball is really good, as getting data from the range with range balls always makes you wonder if the game ball goes further

First time Ive bought a golf watch vs a laser and very clean look and feel. Went with the Garmin S62 and both a great golf watch and looks damn good to wear as a regular watch as well. Also does a bunch of health related stats, weather, tracks a bunch of golf stats and does notifications for phone calls, texts, WhatsApp etc. Best for me is that it gives me layup distances to 100 yards when I need it, which is key for me in that I have a nasty habit of laying up to 35-40 yards and with some tricky shot vs full 100 yards with SW. Has already saved me a couple shots each round. Also love knowing how far I hit a drive each time (depressing at times!). Front, middle and back numbers for any of these watches are close, but obviously not precise. I can move the flag around for more precision but don’t want to slow up rounds with doing so. I do not have any issues with the touch screen that Mark mentions even when the watch gets wet. It’s a actually very cool to have the touch feature. People should be aware that in order to get all these stats, you have to manually enter most or all of this data while you’re on the course, so while it doesn’t take a lot of time to do, it is a bit distracting to your game. Garmin does have these sensors you can put on top of grips which does capture all the data without manual entry but too pricey for me to consider. Connect app is also very well done and Garmin support has surprised me with the level of live support and a guy from Garmin that comes onto the forums to provide input.

Looks better than my V2. Distances are superb on these. Within 1-2m of the range finders that my playing partners use. But heaps faster to use.

Hi Mark, I started using the Garmin CT10 with my fenix 6 watch a few months ago. I have found it incredibly valuable especially with tailoring my lessons. However, the putter tracking is not great with because there is no pin capture mode on Fenix 6 watch, just an option to change the pin location to a set of pre programmed locations (i.e. front left, front middle etc). I am also not 100% convinced by the Garmin Golf app. I am thinking of moving across to the V3 and wondered if you had done any comparisons between the CT10 and V3 or V2? In particular the data presentation in the different apps.

Hey Mark. Have you found any complications with the watch logging pratice swings a actual swings?

I use GolfPad GPS on mobile without tags and it's a faff. Still worth getting one for Xmas 2021? Or are the alternatives around £180 price point? Maybe there is a next gen coming in 2022?

Want/ need to collect stats. I'm a beginner golfer taking lessons....this would be a major help.

How does it account for playing conditions? Out on the course, hitting the ball in different weather/positions will change the average, anyway if accounting for that? An example for me, I often use my 8i on the edge of the green to do a chip and run, this will surely skew the stats. Also, with the intention of improving from using this, should you be deleting old round every so often? Cheers for the great video.

I ended up buying this. Played only one round so far. It was great for not interfering with my round, one click over the hole was all, really. The only issue I didn’t like is having stableford points for scoring (as well as strokes gained). I’ve sent a request in as I don’t understand why, surely they just need SI to do this. Can’t wait to see my trends.

I’ve been collecting all those stats, personally, for about 15 years. Club, wind direction, lie, distance missed left or right, short or long of target. Paced all of my putts. All this time looking for something to automatically track it, instead of me pacing and marking it down. I’ve two options this summer, and this just created a third. Will see which tracks the best, if we ever get to play.

Got mine 2 weeks ago. Totally agree with your views about v3, so much simpler to operate than my Garmin S60 -sold it. Love the stats and the pin collect feature that tracks putts as well. The only thing I can’t find yet is the stroke counts during a round on the watch. Can anyone help?

I tried the v2 version, and this v3 looks like a good leave forward. Unfortunately, I found myself looking for more stats from short game and putting stats than we on offer, also, I got a bit feed up with the editing post every round. Shotscope were very fair when the strap clasp broke, and allowed me to return for refund, as I didn't feel the product was for me. Maybe in a couple of years! Good review mark.

I have to agree with all the comments having just played 1round with the shot scope. Never missed sensing a shot and didn’t have any issues with accidental button pressing. So easy to use and the check the shots data and position when I came back and then the stats appeared. I can wait to get more rounds in to get a better data set. The first stats I’m interested in is the actual distance my clubs go on average, then I can use that to go for the back of green distance with the approach. If I can get that correct then the need for chipping will reduce and the putt distance.

Hi Mark, I play on a 9 hole course. Can the V3 allow me to play the same hole twice in a single round?

I have used mine for two rounds mostly good , but it does not keep your score tally and has missed light shots /taps and bunker shots . Very good for club distances and averages. It’s really informative at home afterwards at home on iPad to analyse each hole , also great is fairways in reg.Greens in reg.

So I've got a superstroke counter balanced grip, can sensor be attached to them???

I want to collect stats. Lol...bit late to the party but wanted to say thank you for the video - just what I was looking for. Been considering Garmin CT10s as I have an Approach S60 but not convinced that Garmin care enough about the app. It seems to me at the moment that Garmin are diluting their efforts by trying to offer too many products whereas Shot Scope is just focused and specialising on shot tracking.

I want to collect stats. I have a phone app that tracks stats, but pulling it in and out of my pocket is driving me crazy. I'd love a GPS watch, but this V3 Shot Scope is the first that has the tracking and stats. The update to add strokes gained is really important to me!
