This is by far the best comparison video. There is a lot of thought in the shots and it was incredibly helpful to compare all 4. Between the timer for the different comparison tests to the b-roll shots that are demonstrating what you are stating, it’s great! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for showing this comparison! Extremely helpful to those of us who have never owned a GoPro and questioned if the Hero10 was worth purchasing! Very much appreciated!
I have had the Hero 7 for almost two years now and still real happy with what it gives me. I only film at 2K, so cannot see any reason (yet) to upgrade, hopefully the Hero 11 will change that for me. Very good review, cheers Alan
Thank you for the test. My favourite was the battery/overheating test at 8:10. I tend to take loong clips with my Hero 7 Black, which overheats, too, but using an external battery and removing the internal one seems to help. I was wondering if the over-heating was resolved in later versions, but it looks it get even worse.
For the 8, 9, and 10, using them on a mount makes them overheat less than sitting them flat on a surface like in this video test. The 7, however, overheats more easily when in its mounting frame.
I have the Hero 9 I use for motovlogging. 3 extra batteries and 2 128GB micro SD cards. Because the GoPro is mounted on the chin of my helmet it gets plenty of ventilation. I've recorded a little over an hour before swapping the battery. I record in 4K at 30fps. I'm super happy with my GoPro.
Thanks so much for doing this video!! Seeing them and hearing them all back to back or split screen is a game changer. So cool. Just adding my 2 cents as a long time gopro user and content creator most of my videos are 30+ with some lasting 1:30. So anyone who says the over heating and shutting off at 20mins is fine cause no one records that much is wrong. No camera should shut off due to heat or anything else till the space on the card is full or the battery is dead. With older gopro you could hook an external battery up and record for hours....now with the 9 and 10 it would matter if you could get a bigger battery because the camera is just going to over heat and shut off. Huge problem in my opinion and will prevent me from ever buying one with these issues.
Ya, that's a game changer for me. I do lot off motovlogging in hot conditions and I suspect that cameras which are overheating in ideal room temperature wouldn't cut it in hot road conditions. I had a hero 5 and it never failed on me.
I got a hero 7 over a year ago and it was a chore to find before they stopped stocking it. For $230, it was prolly the best bang for the buck go pro. Also at the time the 7 made the most sense in pure use cases. For one, I didn’t want the 8 because it lacked a replacement lens. If I were to use it in strenuous situations, I’d be pretty upset if I cracked it and was shit outta luck. Then it was between the 9 and 7, and for half the price, I’d rather have the tried and true design over the innovative design that saw massive issues. And now it’s really tough to get a budget quality go pro, as I said, the 8 doesn’t have a removable lens…which I think is the biggest bust for an action camera.
The best comparison out there! No fluff, no marketing influence, simply facts. I was interested in what you said about the Hero 7 since I own one. Recently shot this in low light (look at the cockpit view), was honestly impressed this small sensor can do so much. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AnLlyDuQKWk.html
i got it too and it had some green and red dots in the night photos so i change it and the new one has the same thing... anyway ill keep it because its better for day than the gopro 6 and i will repair the 6 for night
Excellent comparison. I cannot see any difference watching from my phone, probably from the 7 to the 8 worth the upgrade then 9,10 minimal changes. Thanks it helps a lot to decide! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Honest review.
Dont go for 8. Either take 5, 7 or 10. Never tried 9 but if things mentioned (like lag in menu) is really there fuck that cam. 8 would be cool if you are 100% sure you will never crack lens screen because for some reason gopro 8 is the only cam in their line up where you cannot change glass infront of lens and I cracked mine on gopro 5 once :) ~20€ for a new one. Why I skipped 6 in my ''recommendations'' because at the time it was released it was barelly better than 5. So 5 if you just need something to film actiony stuff and check if you really need an action cam. You can find used for about 100€ - 130€ Never tried 10, will try to buy it I think to see if its good, but its the latest and greatest so if you have money to burn, burn it on this one. From what I've seen the only thing I hate is lack of HDMI :/ whyy gopoopie, just why you do it to us... Ok, I guess Im in minority on this one :D
Thanks for the comparison. I bought the Hero9 today. It was a tough choice between the 9 and the 8 for me but I prefer the front facing screen so I went with the 9 since I plan to grab the light mod and possibly the media mod. This way, I don’t have to bother with purchasing the screen too as the whole reason for buying a GoPro was for portability. I have a canon M50 that meets the remainder of my needs. This is a great video
its tough to judge by this video just because you can change more in the settings in the 10 then the older models. you can manipulate exposure and picture profile for lowlight which is very good on the 10 but i do agree with all the same settings it seems the 7/8 is better with stock settings.
they always talk about "watching it on a smartphone so you want see a big difference" the videos are literally uploaded in 1080p anyway and super compressed there is no difference
I have both the 8 & the 10. I end up using the 8 the most... just because. If I am going to be in the video, I use the 10 for the front screen which is a VERY nice improvement. But, 4k is 4k, ya know what I mean?
Thanks for the video! I was checking this for the audio comparison, and I have to agree with you on the 10 being better than the 9 at filtering the audio, yet losing some of the low end of the voice, hence some clarity is lost and it sounds a bit crispier (tested with headphones). I'd love to see how they perform in a live setting such as a gig to see if it's worth upgrading from 7 to 10 (or maybe 9 as it might have a better quality overall!)
Feels like for new customers - newer model is better.....BUT ,,...for current users of 7 or 8 is truly pointless of buying a new one....From what I see on RU-vid, many newest cameras/batteries are overheating and cutting recording to about 30 minutes or so.... I will stick to GoPro 8.....It's not perfect, but very close. GoPro 2 was glitch free...perfect little bugger
I ve has the gopro 7 white for the last four years And it's been through some tough conditions. Its been underwater, thrown around sand, survived numerous mud runs.eventhough it's the base model and it may be rugged to some but it does a fantastic job for what I do.
I wish I watched this earlier today :D lol. well, ordered a 10, gotta live with it overheating I guess. I wonder if you can make a video between Hero 8 and Hero 10 at 1080p60fps without stabilization settings. I wonder how long each one lasts.
@@versus_com thanks. it is the worst camera I have used in my life. I'm returning it on monday. tested dji osmo action and hero 10 on exactly same settings. 1080p60fps at rocksteady/hypersmooth. crappy chinese knockoff recorded 67 minutes, the highest end american marketing bullshit recorded 30 minutes. it is a joke!
Bro, du kannst auch einfach Deutsch reden. ; ) War mir zuerst nicht ganz sicher, weil bei manchen merkt mans schon ob die Deutsch sind, aber als dann die Siegessäule kam wars klar. :)
Unless GoPro significantly increase the sensor size, you won’t see a big difference from 7 even to 10. However, you need to pay extra attention on settings of different model. And choose the correct format when uploading, otherwise footage quality will drop a lot.
I sell security cameras and most cameras record at 12-15 frames per second. You can zoom in and get the quality you want. These are 500-8000 dollar cameras. Only the Government requires 25fps or more. License Plate Recognition or aka LPR technology has a very narrow 10-20 degree zoom at 100 plus feet, but it only needs 40fps. It comes down to the Video Management Software aka VMS as to the quality. It may be worth paying for a VMS system or a demo VMS system as a short cut to work around the software included in the camera. I honestly thought that the GoPro 9 was just fine except for in the dark light test.
My hero 10 has horrible footage since I got it. Tried so many settings. Jittery. Looks like 640 x 480. Objects jump around, trees appear and disappear. Etc. Slightest shadow makes the footage dark. Hunts for propper lighting, etc. Do I need to return it?
the hero 9 is my favorite gopro. the screen on the front is useful, the stabilization is amazing, i love the 5k footage and the colors look very saturated. the 10 is almost the same thing.
thanks man, i'm starting a YT channel biking around southern California, beaches, mountains, deserts, cities, and I have no idea if the channel with get any views, so I'm just going with the 8 , for fun , and see what happens
Never had a GoPro but I’m going to start recording car videos like drag racing, Drifting an things like that which is the best GoPro to get ??? I’m kinda on a budget but it don’t matter
well it's nice to see what 9 and 10 could do if they actually worked. I own the 10 and I think it's absolute garbage. The 7 was the best gopro, the 8 was ok but the colors were terrible.
I found a 8 on clearance at Walmart for $200 last week its my first one, watched a couple vids and seen a lot of comments about the lense not detaching, imma order all the protective gear I think I might need and use the hell out of it the quality per size is amazing
So my 7 is still amazing compared to the 10. I dig that. Always have loved my 7. It’s truly a solid build. Never liked the 8 and 9 features. They didn’t seem enough to upgrade for
Hi, I've never owned or even used a Go Pro camera, but based on all the reviews I've seen, I'm inclined to agree with you. The GP7 colors look more natural, whereas the others appear contaminated with too much green and yellow. It's a white balance problem. If one were to purchase a used GP7, what are the risks? I know that digital camera shutter mechanisms and sensors have a shelf life, but you can replace those parts. Can the same be said of Go Pro cameras? Can you send a used camera back to the manufacturer for a rebuild? How long can you expect a GP7 to produce quality results? Thanks for any help you can provide. While the newer versions have their benefits, for the life of me, I don't see enough of a difference to justify an additional $300-350.
@@globalfunseeker6733 One of the best things about Gopros are their durability. You can expect them to last until you completely break it or you lose it lol.
Just went the 8 black today, I think it'll be just fine for my 1st real GoPro. I just got tired of trying to find a equal budget equivalent, there are none.
Actually I'm still holding the Hero4. That's why, after watching at your video, the Horizon thing it's a game changer so I should go for the 9 at least.
@@KROSKI_y Definitely, because starting at the Hero 8 and up, you can record 4k without the fisheye effect, and the Hero 9 and up have the front facing viewfinder.
Great Video! Right now I have the Hero 7 I Like it, but... sometimes it freezes up? It does not turn on when I want it to, so I remove the battery. Other than that happening at the start of the Trail, which is A pain sometimes. I record in 2K at 60fps, in post Editing I turn it up to 4K. I do not use the camera's feature for slow motion, I do that as well in Post Editing. Stabilization, I'm Happy with the 7's Stabilization, as I do not have it turned on, the camera is mounted to the Helmet, and my head is the Stabilization. Horizon, I like the fact with the 7 that when we spillout, and flip over, that the image spins as well. Low light, I do not like, sometimes we ride at night, or early morning, and it does not do so well. Battery, I get a little over a hour of video making with a full battery, which is also the same for the scan disc card. I have never had them stop from over heating, that might be do to them being mounted on the helmet getting full air around them. I am looking to get some more gopros, and am looking at the gopro 11. I see that you made another video on the 11 thru 8, I will watch that next.
well uh I just dropped my go pro 8 to the bottom of a lake... I really was excited to maybe get a 9 because of the front facing screen but now I see it's bigger and not any faster or much different other than that - do you think I should get another 8 or go for the 9 out of the two (10 seems like a little too expensive 4 me)
Thanks for the superb comparison. I own a Go Pro 7 Black and still happy with that and don’t see any reason to upgrade as yet. Good enough for my use for now. The video was bang on though, extremely well done. Cheers
It seem Gopro are creating problems to sell you solution in each version in gopro 10 they could of made everything perfect but instead why are the photos quality lacking, or why are the battery over heating? Humm 🤔 in gopro 10 they could have ironed all the bugs by now from their predecessor Gopro's mistakes they've made. This is a gimmick scheme to keep selling you latest features otherwise they won't be in business for to long.
Awesome comparison video man! I was an onwer of hero7 and now i just waiting to recieve my new gopro10!! Thank you for sharing with us with informative video!
Looking to buy my first gopro for motorbike notice gd reviews on hero 7 any advice for 8,9,10? Looking just to use on motorbike so need good waterproof and battery thanks
Go for 8, mate. It’s much better than 7. On top of that, the batteries are compatible with 5,6,7 I’ve 4,5 and 8… didn’t bother upgrading to 6 due to the absence of more advanced stabilisation.. didn’t buy 7 as well because I thought hypersmoooth would be improved in the later edition. I bought 8 3 months after it was launched and didn’t regret it even since…
I do cycle travel in my city , 2-3 days in a week but I don't have so much money to buy camera to shoot videos . If you can gift me hero 7 , I will be very happy. I don't know this message reach to you but I'm hopeful to you thank you .
I have an old Hero 5 session, I will definitetly buy a second hand Hero 7 and keep my 5 for other points of view ! 😁 Thanks for the high quality video ! From 🇨🇵
lol, I use my GoPro for 2-3 hours straight, constantly recording. No overheating problems (Hero 8 Black). Of course, it's clipped to my hat and I am outdoors on a lake in spring/fall (and I live in Maine), so it's getting plenty of cooling.
Please don't get rid of your arsenl of the older GPHs yet as 12 is coming out too and would be really REALLY great to extend the scope of this great compresion into those 2 and have new but more complete clip. Thanks for putting this together.
