Nice video. Are you still dealing with the freezing issue with your Gopro Hero 6? I bought a GPH 5 a while back and had the same issue, returned it to Gopro and they replaced it with a new one. The new one had the same issue. This has deterred me from getting the GPH 6. I currently have a GPH 4 silver and its been the bomb with no issues! I wanna upgrade but....you know the rest.

Have you had any issues with any of your Yi cameras so far? Would you recommend the GoPro hero 5 black if I wouldn't be using the stabilization and just using it for the video quality or is there something better? I've been using 1 canon g7x & 3 sjcam4000's for like 3 years now mounted on a Samson MK-10 boom mic using their frame mount + a 1/4 male to female thread - And they still work fine (though I don't know if one is a fake or not, but it still works lol) BUT, one of my cameras gave out on me the other day.. I think I've narrowed it down to these, but if you know something else that would fit my needs better Please let me know. Cuz if the one I get is way better than my Sjcam's then I might get 2 more (so, cost is a factor) GoPro Hero 5 Black refurbished = $220 each ($170 after $50 trade in for my sjcam4000) Yi-4K (not 4K+) = $150 from their website...but no trade in offered. *I do like that the GoPro Hero 5 Black has the Linear mode (cuz fish eye looks weird on drums) **I also use Screenflow 7, if that makes a difference with those 2 cameras above. These will be for RU-vid drum videos, SO... 1. I don't really need stabilization (unless it will help with #6) 2. I don't really need 4k either actually.. 3. I'll be shooting in 1080p 30fps, MAYBE 60fps (if I feel like it would look cool) 4. The cameras will be on a Samson MK-10 boom stand using their frame mounts + GoPro Tripod adaptor. 5. I don't need the audio to be great (I get my audio edited) 6. I've noticed my bass drum does cause the video to shake with my Canon G7X (1st one, not mark 2), but that could just be because it's heavy while attached to my boom stand. 7. BUT they will be in low light. I use 2 neewer 176 LED lights, black background on my walls, no other lights on. Thoughts? 🤔🤔 Thanks in advance! 😊

So what is the best recommended SD card

I know i'm a bit late to the party on this but i'm getting myself a GoPro very soon. Either the 5 or the 6. Price doesn't matter. Although i'm worried about the saturation and the audio on the 6 but i definitely prefer the 6s fps. I'll use my GoPro for holiday stuffs like boating, diving and other holiday activities like traveling where an Actioncamera can come in handy. That said, what is your/anyones recommendation? Is the saturation and audio really that "bad"? Any help is appreciated.

Great review! Can you (or someone) explain the 4k60 and 1080 240fps codec issue? It was brought up in this video a couple of times. Why are those settings an issue in regards to the codec and editing?

I have returned 3 of them so far I'm on my 4th one, and im still having trouble. I'm going crazy I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of going back to the hero 5. If I record and try to playback the video on the gopro it will freeze. It also freezes sometimes when I stop recording. Should I just go back to the hero5? Oh and I'm using sandisk 128g extreme plus but it also freezes with my 64 and 32g cards same brand

Hey there! You mention at 3:27 that "unfortunately it's in a codec that almost nobody can actually use" regarding the 4K video capture. What did you mean by that? (My dad has an issue that he can't playback the gopro's 4k videos on his tv)

I want one for that 240 fps at 1080p! But what's the deal with this "no one can use it" codec business? If I upload the file to my computer (Win 7) can I import the footage into Premiere Pro (CC 2015)?

Whoa! Nice update to the "studio" for 2018. Very good vid with excellent production. As to the Hero 6, I personally don't need it especially at the price point. Getting the OnReal up and running to see if that footage is worth a shot at 4K.

FWIW, my old version of Sony Vegas Pro 10 slurps up 1080p@240fps HECV videos and edits them just fine. My biggest issue with the Hero6 is that it just does *random* stuff all the time. It changes modes on its own. It randomly starts shooting a timelapse or shoots off a 30 shot burst. And the new screen unlock sequence is broken. I'll swipe down and then tap to unlock the screen, which it *confirms* is unlocked. and then swipe down again to get to connections menu, and it asks me to tap to unlock again.. so I tap to unlock, then swipe down again to get to connections menu.. it says tap to unlock, which I do.. etc. etc.. 3-4 times in a row. And yes, even with a blazing fast card, mine still locks up after I stop recording, about half to 2/3rds of all out in the real world recordings. Testing at home, it rarely happens. It's such an incredible camera, that frustrates me every time I use it.

I switched to a DJI Osmo plus last year. I love the smooth footage it takes, but I miss the ease of use on my gopro and how rough I could be with it. Carrying the osmo around is kind of a pain. Do you think I can switch to the gopro 6 on just a stick and still get smooth videos like on my osmo plus?

bought the GoPro Hero 6 Black about a week ago. im using samsung EVO PLUS cards (128gb) and they are working perfectly! its definitly NOT a bandwith problem since they both support CONSTANT 80MB/S write. ive had no problems with 4k 60 fps and 4k 30 fps :)

No one seems to mention that you now have only two choices in 1080, wide or linear. With the Hero 5 I could shoot at 1080 narrow and then in post edit to 720 and effect a zoom of sorts while maintaining video quality. I was excited to use the 1080 and shoot at 240 fps because I like to do fishing videos of jumping tarpon. Alas I am stuck with the wide angle. I can't zoom in linear because I use a head mount and hit the record button when the action starts. If I had known, I would have stuck with the Hero 5

The first action camera I got was this year, I bought the GoPro Hero 5 Black, and have loved it. I also purchased a cheap bunch of third party accessories from eBay, and they are soooo useful. It was 30 dollars for what I worked out was about $300 AUD. I love GoPro, but I wish they would make their products cheaper. Love your videos! 😄

I believe the "freezing" issue is actually a buffer size issue in the GoPro firmware.

How's the audio quality?

I bought a GoPro 6 and had lots of problems with the touch screen locking up and bugging out. I really liked the picture quality but the unreliabilty of the firmware and having to constantly pull the battery made me compelled to return it.

I agree I got the 6 j love it the only problem I do have my hero 5 battery is 30 minutes longer I wished the hero 6 would had a better battery life nice video

So heres the deal, i was about to buy a cheap hero5 and a gimbal, but then i saw some videos of the hero 6 image stabilization and it is as good as the gimbal videos i have seen anyway, i plan on using it for snowboarding mtb and youtube videos, a gimbal seems excessive to have on my helmet when a hero 6 would do the stabilized job, your thoughts?

Have you tried the Feiyu Tech Sony action cam version for the Sony FDR X3000? I have the G5 version on order which is supposed to be splash proof. I just love the colors that Sony pushes out, but 4K with BOSS @ 30FPS just seems too jittery... so I find myself shooting at 1080P with that camera... kinda of a bummer, but I still can’t find myself using a GoPro... curious on what your thoughts are. Thx for the frank opinion, I just bought the GoPro Hero 6 & so doped about it even before started using it. Yes it's very expensive but I find it justified to invest in it because of " as you mentioned superb built quality" great performance & best features on any action Cam simply can not find in more budget friendly competitions, I have given serious thoughts to the Yi 4K+ action cam but it lacked on future proof features like HEVC h.265 codec, LED indicator & rugged all around performance of GoPRO. Can I add an external microphone to this device with protective case on in a more practical way or does Blutooth enable wireless mic or earphones like smartphones? Cheers!

Go pro has lost it. Company is on the skids and I can see why. Bought the six in December and I couldn’t even close the battery door to turn it on. Maybe they’ll figure out that tech for the seven.

gopro 6 works for me perfectly .. i see how newbies would struggle with the codecs & not knowing the ins and outs .. if you up date windows system to the latest version 1709 or use adobe Pr it has the codec built into the program or install lite codex pack . you get the codex to play on your windows pc.

I just got a Crosstour Action Cam for $60. It does 4K, but the quality comes out best when I recorded at 1080p 60fps. For $60 only complaint is lack of stabilization. Thanks for the great videos!

Took my GoPro Hero 6 back 3 days after Christmas because of issues of overheating (freezing up), even after a firmware update. Now, early February, I have the Sony FDR-X3000, got it for $339 on sale, and this this just works! I do wish it had a higher frame rate, but that 100mbits/sec in 4K w/ electronic stabilization is da bomb! Not sure of Sony will go forward and make another actioncam with 4K at 60FPS and 100mbit/sec with B.O.S.S., but for a "set it and forget it" actioncam, I am much more happier w/ the Sony. Nice Vid!

One thing that I miss in GoPro is something that I call "QuikProfiles" - some easy and quick to acces UI based buttons (using touch screen) with user made profiles. For example: Profile1 (4k, stabilized with PT) and Profile2 (1080, no PT) that I can change without loosing time when adventuring. For me it's very important. I'm hiking, talking to cam and with friends. When wearher conditions are good and we are in good spot, quick change profile to 4k, get into paraglider and just fly away before wind change. It's only example from my sport but I thin time is very important in any sport activity and you don't want to think about camera - just press and go ;). I think it's easy to get (aspecialy with GP1 processor) but unfortunately no response from GoPro after many e-mails, starting topics on their forum, and visualisations that I've sent to them. Not even single "no, forget it". I hope some day Nick Woodman will say "hey, let's make a Profiles and call it "QuikProfiles" ;).

Thanks for your review! I have the Sony AS100-V and I hate the fish eye (d)effect. GoPro is on my wish list for the Linear mode and back LCD. It's tiring mounting my cell phone to monitor the video shots. Feyitech just released a new gimbal for Sony X3000 but it's designed to use the under water case who muffles the sound.

But I have one question: Can not video 1080 / 240fps. does this mean that the camera does not record, or does the software fail to track? I use FCP X 10.4 to process video. I want to buy Hero 6 black, and the main reason is 1080/240 fps ... but if you can not use it ... the camera is not worth the price Can you tell what is a slow motion problem? Thanks in advance
