I really like the dynamic range, especially. She also used vibrato very intentionally--lots of straight tones giving way to vibrato at the end of phrases. You can't leave out the joy, though--her delighting in the situation, and appreciating her own gifts--it is palpable in those moments where you see her face. This also came at a time of particular national unity following the attack on the Towers and American troops in harm's way, so it was a very friendly context for performing the National Anthem, and that had something to do with why people upvote this performance as well. It's always been one of my faves. I'm not gonna lie though--this a cappella performance by quintet of young teenagers is right up there. His version is incredible, but sorry not on this level of pitch perfectness and bombast and dynamics and control. Not taking anything away from his because he is probably a diustant second. You do not understand the magnitude of Whitneys version. This a 1991 version and for 33 years it has stood separate, You can find every year dozens of articles about this version for 33 straight years. It is the only version to sell over a million physical copies and land on Number 6 on billboard pop chart! When Chris's version can stand the test of time and have over a 1000 articles about it over 33 years post singing then you can talk about it giving Whitneys version a run for its money. Until then, what you typed is recency bias. There is no metric to support your assertion.
