I joined the military in 2000 and there was a theater on base. Before every movie the would play the star spangled banner. And it was always ms. Houston's rendition. Peace from Downey Ca.
Yeah, this is the rendition that is front and center when I think of this song. Love watching younger people be "wowed" by music us older (not old, lol) folks listened to.
This stands as a testament to all African Americans who built the United States of America with blood, sweat, and tears, and even their lives, and yet were denied their place at the table - even to the extent of being ignored for their commitments to U.S. war efforts throughout hundreds of years. Whitney Houston clarifies that the national anthem was earned in no small part by the U.S.'s black population.
Every now and then I stumble onto this video of Whitney performing the National Anthem and it takes my breath away every time. I miss her. Thank you Joy for reacting to this.
I have watched every reaction that I can find on this particular song with Whitney Houston because I LOVE this one and this one only, and looking looking for more reactions to this one...
Timeless talented voice! And shout out to the symphony too and that arrangement. They had her back and came with it! Especially when it shifts to "whose bright stripes". Those strings backing her voice was amazing! Whew!
Whitney´s voice was so incredible and she was so cute. Her last 10 years a tragedy and she died much too young. Her mother was one of the female background singers in 1969.
That was when America got patriotic again.. my dad was a Vietnam vet and retired in a military town. It was interesting to see how different military and their families went from thankless to heroes overnight.
"Wow" is universally the initial response which is apropos. Nothing else need be said. The bar was raised 30 years ago and hasn't been approached since...
When Whitney Houston sang, "The National Anthem" and Ray Charles sang, "America The Beautiful", those were the only times I was proud to be an American. There are a few people that come along once in a while that has that unique singing voice. (Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Freddie Mercury, Jerry Butler, Lou Rawls, The Righteous Brothers and Al Green just to name a few.) She always brings tears to my eyes when she does this song. 😢 You did make me laugh with the hand over your heart and how fast you removed it with that look on your face. 😂🤣😅
My dad was medic, ww2, he would have tears if he would have heard this. You jumped from injoy life, your still my baby black sister, from your 64 year old white boy homey. I give you a song when I think er ready, peace.
Yes, she absolutely killed it; but it also had A LOT to do with the arrangement of the song. To see what I mean, watch this breakdown. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zCBiTdFLuh8.html
When you do the research and look up the information on this performance you will note it was entirely lipsynced. She had pre-recorded it in the studio. When she came on the field the mic was turned off. I think she was the greatest female vocalist ever, but it's important to be honest about this performance.
Let me see if I can get this correct, Ms. Whitney (R.I.P.) was singing, but what U & I heard was recorded earlier.. This was reported by someone in her family.. I thought is was Great.. ♠W.G.
