If you can't get your hands on fish medicine OR none of them are working, try aquarium salt or rock salt made of sodium chlorine (not marine salt or Epsom salt). It's highly effective against fungus, as well as certain bacteria and external parasites. However, plants, snails, and anchor catfish don't do well with salt, so move your sick fish to a separate hospital tank if needed.

Was also told garlic helps your fish with internal parasites. ^_^ its cool it helps every living being with that. (Disclaimer have not tried it myself. Thankfully haven't needed yet.)

Among the more sensitive fishes to salt, a commonly owned one is Bettas so be careful with them.

Bettas aren’t sensitive to salt, at least not anymore then other tropical fish. I know this, because when my fish was sick, my vet walked my through how to use salt with my betta.

@@franzmauimero8610 I’m not a vet, so I don’t feel comfortable telling what would work for you fish. I’m my case, I had my betta in a quarantine tank, with a 5% salt solution

I can't get meds in Australia. Salt is my go to after identifying what is wrong. Always research into the problem first.

@@ambiguousaesthetic4170 Panacur 25. You'll have to look online at what others recommend. But that works for me. I buy 1 litre at a time to do all my animals .

This video couldn't have come sooner! I'm a newbie & have a black Molly with a fungal infection & late dropsy. He had it for a while 😔. He's doing well rn & is very active & responsive. But I want to help his infection & hopefully his dropsy. At least make his days easier by removing the fungal infection

Salt was always my go to fix on my Bettas, but I found out the hard way its a death sentence for corycats!

Yes, I believe Cory from Aquarium Co-Op says that in his experience it cures about 60% of ailments in sick fish, which isn't too bad considering it is so cheap and available everywhere!

Garlic infused pellets works as well and safe for planted aquariums. Just crush some Garlic and juice it with a cheese cloth then add pellets to the juice 😋

@@majesticwonder I usually do a bunch of pellets it won't hurt anything and half a garlic crush it and strain it I use a cheese cloth and let it soak. Start to feed as soon as I see the pellets soaking up the garlic and continue to let soak and dry. I hope it helps

Had no idea that aquarium salt shouldn’t be used in tanks with snails and live plants 😩 I only do a teaspoon of aquarium salt when I add new water to the tank to help with fill function… but I wonder if that’d explain why my live plants won’t stay alive! Snails are okay, although I’ll have to stop adding the salt just to be on the safe side

Is this because in nature there is natural amounts of salt entering the water through the ground and in the tank its more purified and isolated? Salt is amazing, I use a salt water gargle if I start feeling sick, soak a cut in warm salty water, it has many benefits and helpful aspects.

1 tablespoons of salt for every 2 gallons seems to be alright for ramshorns snails. At first always got a couple that I didn't see when catching the rest out. Turns out they don't really care much about that amount of salt.

I couldn’t get my Molly with fungus to get better with hard meds but the salt it work!

Because a lot of beginners run for the expensive meds. When Salt will do. So after going through the meds and it not working Irene is saying " you can go back and use good old salt". In Australia we don't have the luxury of running out and buying antibiotics off the shelf, So salt is our go to.

@@caewalker9276 the problem with meds, is they create a much larger problem, of medication resistant bugs/parasite. It’s why they are banned in live stock as well.

I usually blanch/boil it for a minute, but I believe you can feed it raw as long as you weigh it down.

My beta seems so lethargic and we thought we might’ve over fed him, he just layer at the bottom. So we put him some place shallower for quarantine and fasted him for 3 days. We put him back in his tank after it was cleaned and he seemed like he could swim a bit better. Few days later to now, he seems lethargic. Worried now because us thinking he was getting better, bought him a 5 gallon tank, with a plant to start out with and volcanic substrate (never had a planted tank before). He is in quarantine right now while his tank cycles for a few days, but we are worried. He seems up to get air, then slowly falls down to the bottom. He also looks like he’s just panting all the time. I don’t know what’s going on. Someone please help. He’s only 2. 🥺

It seems theres not enough oxygen in these tanks. Do you have a filter or a bubbler? live plants even? Betas require very little moving water but they still need oxygen. Fun fact about beta fish they can breathe air, its why it goes to the surface.

I have a question about my female betta. I noticed she was looking quite bloated a few weeks back and thought she might be constipated, but peas and water changes didn't really do much for her. Two weeks ago, the tell-tale pineconing of dropsy showed up. I immediately moved her to an isolation tank and started antibiotics and salt. She seemed to improve for a day or two, but is now as bloated as ever and she is very lethargic. She hasn't been eating for the last 3 days. But she does still interact with me and watch me when she isn't sitting on top of her tank heater. Is there hope for her recovery? Or am I prolonging her misery?

i did worse thing i ever could done. i put about 4 tbs salt cup to give my betta fish salt water treatment. and i released it . after few hours it died. it was my first fish.

You can leave the salt on the aquarium as long as you’d like. However; the healing process will commence only after you put some salt into the aquarium water.
