After many years of installing and then taking down my Christmas lights and several months of investigating permanent lighting options on the internet, I came across JB’s Christmas Lighting and his Govee installation videos on RU-vid and was amazed at what I saw. I contacted JB and after several conversations I decided to pull the trigger! JB made the trip to Frisco, Texas and after two long days the Govee installation was complete. JB and his team were amazing…. Very professional and completed one of the most meticulous installation jobs I have ever witnessed. I will never have to install another light on my roof…. Not only for Christmas time, but now I have permanent lighting all year round for every occasion. JB and his team took the extra time to make sure this installation will last many years without issues. Again, I can’t say enough about the professionalism and attention to detail that JB and his team put into my Govee permanent lighting installation. I highly recommend JB and if you are lucky enough to have him install your Govee permanent lighting you will not regret it!

Thank you taking the time for reviewing your home installation video. We put just as much effort into this video as we did with your installation. Your hospitality and your generosity was very much appreciated. Even though we encountered a few hiccups, we did not give up on getting it done right. Thank you to Andrew and my viewers for making this video happen🙏

Hey, what’s going on JD. Love that road trip video that you did in Dallas. What a big house. I noticed in the video you took one of the lights and tucked behind the flashing on the house. So my question to you is, I have one full string. 16 feet and I would like to know if I could cut one light off. Love your videos. Keep up the good work Mike.
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 8 месяцев назад
Thank you for taking the time to view our content. At the time of the video, I was not aware that you could cut anywhere past 4 lights. Thought it was groups of 4. So cut pass anything 4 lights when ending them like this video. If your just transitioning form eave to eave then cut anywhere. Just make sure to bring the line back together. Hope this helps

I am interested in see or learning how you power the lights once you have the lights in the attic? Where do you typically find the outlets to plug into?
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 9 месяцев назад
Hi there and thank you for your comment. We appreciate your support. If you have 100ft of installation then you will only need one outlet. We do not install them outside anymore. They are bulky and have a potential of coming undone. Most of the time in new homes, one power outlet will be in the center of attic or near a AC unit. Then on that side whether your lights will stream left or right, take the lights a little further back down the sides some so you sit kinda center of the attic. Drill a 5/16 hole to pass the controller extension through and connect your lights, then your power adapter last. For 2, If you have a porch over hang on the left or right, that’s where both your top and bottom lights will start. One on top to the attic, the other bottom to another outlet

Love the setup, want to pull the trigger, however I noticed most installs of this system have a closed rafters design. Unfortunately in the Pacific Northwest most homes are built with open rafters. Any suggestions to tackle this? Should I just staple the wire to rafters?

Hi thanks for watching. Get a 1/2”x2” Nominal board and use a finishing nailer to place this board 2-4” from the wall. Then mount your lights to that board. You can keep it like that or just paint it to match your open rafters

We usually install them in the attic since that will extend the life of your devices and we are a business that installs them on a regular.i know that it may be good practice but it might not be the option for everyone. Second option is to use a waterproof box to protect the devices from the outdoor elements. Does the controller box and the on/off box need to be inside the house? Looking to do this myself in the northeast and don’t want to be drilling through walls into my house
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 6 месяцев назад
The controller is IP65 while the lights are IP67. I’ve done a hand full of installs and we only put them inside. We don’t chance the controller failing because one, we don’t want to go back if we have completed the install and two govee doesn’t sale them individually. So far the very first ones we did 2 failed so no need to be chancing it. Govee did replace them but we fixed the issue and we haven’t had any new problems. You won’t need to drill in walls but only one 3/4” hole to pass the first connection into the attic

I have a roof peak and right below a small roof lip from dinning room windows. How do I run a strand of lights to the roof lip and get power to the lights?
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 8 месяцев назад
We usually don’t light those unless the homeowner absolutely wants it. The only way to do this is that we plan in a way that the overhang is far left or far right so we can jump down. Or have them purchase a 50ft kit to cover the power adapter and controller
@kevinfantini

Hey, what do you recommend to do if the soffit is plastic but there are only holes in every other soffit piece? I saw that you recommended the hitch pins, which are awesome, but in my case a light may land on the soffit that doesn’t have any holes to use a pin.
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 5 месяцев назад
It those cases, you can use a Govee clip(or bought out clip) and then use a small wood screw to keep that one in place. I say wood screw because the thread is wider to grab very well as oppose to a fine thread screw which will strip the plastic

Hi, do you travel to Rochester ny 😊 we can't seem to find anyone in our area to install them. Most want to install there own temporary lights every year. One guy was charging over $2ooo. What is your normal install charge. I would still like to know charge just to compare if what I'm being told is a fair price
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 9 месяцев назад
Permanent lighting last a long time and has multiple settings and functions. These Govee lights last a estimated 12-15years with 4-6hrs use a day. Look to pay between $1500-$4000 for 150ft-350ft. $4000 and up if it’s more that 350ft. Since these strands come in white only, some will want them in a different color so now your having to pay for painting price to match soffit color. Keep in mind this pays for itself over the years. You can easily spend $1000 on Christmas Light installs for just a few months and now you have them up for years and different holidays and occasions

what do you offer for warranties on the light installs?
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 9 месяцев назад
Hello and thanks for your question. Govee has a 1 year manufacturer warranty and you can add more warranty on Amazon when you purchase the lights. As far as what I offer, if a strand goes bad because I’m at fault for not properly waterproofing the spliced connections then I will gladly replace it without any cost to the client. If it’s a manufacturer malfunction, then all you have to do is contact Govee and they will send you strands or sometimes send you a whole 50ft kit. It all depends. Then when that comes in, at my next available route to your location, I will change it out. I will not be replacing items for free unless it’s my fault. Other companies manufacture their own products for permanent lighting and therefore they do lifetime warranties. We are simply taking an online manufacturing product and installing them with limited altering of the line

Does the groups of 4 LEDs still apply to the PRO version of these lights?
@jbsdiytv

The group of 4's doesn't apply anymore to both editions. Govee has made some changes. We have tested some strands cutting them at lights 5-12 and they still work. I would still hold off going under 4 lights as we have had issues here and there. Thanks for your question
