This is awesome!!! But I think I am going to buy Eufy's version!!!!! I can sync it to my existing cameras and have it react when it detects certain people (me, family, strangers) and have a different light effect. These kits are the finished version of WLED strips! Pretty awesome!

I installed the pro version over the weekend and I used a piece of cardboard as a spacer from the wall to mount the light, to make sure I always have the same distance to the wall. No need to measure for every single light.

@r7boatguy

Best to play around with the mounting distance before installing. I have the edge of my lights at roughly 4" from the house, which is fine but maybe a bit too far. Luckily my house is a ranch, so I can easily change them. I have an extra strand coming today and will play around with mounting that closer to the house. Also, look carefully where your soffit vents are, since you really want to avoid mounting on them (which I had to do). It works, but it's tricky to get that light lined up so it shines symmetrically with the others. If you can avoid the vents, that is ideal.

Do you have the Pro version? They are twice the lumen of the regular version, so I was hoping I could mount them 12 inches away from the wall so they rest against the outer edge of the soffet.
@r7boatguy
@r7boatguy 8 месяцев назад
@@dereksafko8144 No, I only have the regular version. Not sure I would want twice the lumens, these are very bright. My house, too, is a ranch. I guess if you want to use them also as downlights, brighter might be worthwhile. The distance from the house is not really about the brightness, it is about the shape of the cone that is formed by the lens. Too far away and the cone is too small.

I just finished mine. I ended up cutting and splicing the cables to make a more custom fit. My roof line is a bit unique so I ended up having to do 7 cuts total. Just get 22awg 3 pin cable, some waterproof connectors and heat shrink. I can confirm cutting and splicing works and it’s pretty easy. I bought a 150 foot kit. Ended up having to cut back some of my extensions, as my last 3 lights wouldn’t work. Once I trimmed some of the slack, all lights work great. I got quoted $2600 for a company to put this same kit up. It cost me about $500 with the kit and all other supplies to splice

@codya5696
@codya5696 8 месяцев назад
@@88krazie I do not have a video but “Chris Maher” has a video on RU-vid demonstrating and testing different ways. Reddit also has a lot of people with their experiences. I used 22awg 3 pin white LED extension cable off Amazon, also used solder weatherproof wire connectors and extra heat shrink to provide extra weatherproofing. I found that you can cut anywhere, I actually started my install with 1 LED and a cut and about a 1.5 foot extension to the rest of the lights and up to the peak on my roof. I had about 7 cuts total and have zero issues. Just be mindful of how long your run is. When I finished up the last 3 LEDs were not working. I went back and shortened the slack of a few places where I spliced and everything works great now. Also be mindful of the direction the cables are going. On the Govee cables 1 side will have gray writing, make sure that is connected to the same wires. The extension cable I had had writing on one side as well so I just made sure I match them up. You can also mark with a marker if needed. It’s super easy, i am by no means an expert but I learned everything I needed to from that RU-vid video and Reddit. If I can do it, anybody can. Just take your time. To ease my nerves about cutting such a high priced item, I actually purchased a single extension that I tested everything out on first. I figured if it doesn’t work, I’m only out $50 instead of the price of the full kit. Shoot me a message if you have any questions, I’d be happy to share my experiences

@@brandoneilbert9269 Just make sure you have someone else at the base as a counterweight so that the ladder doesn't kick out. @@mighty_maxwell thanks man!! Our house is almost the same as yours, just not sure how long to get. Thinking about the 150 foot strand but I know we'll need a couple of extensions wires for the jumps in levels and multiple pitches. Sucks they don't sell the extensions.
@mighty_maxwell
@mighty_maxwell 5 месяцев назад
@@brandoneilbert9269 So i had a 100 ft kit plus one additional 15 ft extension. In retrospect, probably would have just gone for the full 150 from the start, given that the cost was pretty close after buying the extension. If your house is similar size to mine, 150 ft would be plenty for a similar run. As for going beyond 150, Govee actually recommends against adding extensions beyond that as the power isn't enough to adequate run that long of a run. You are better off getting another completely separate kit, unless you want to experiment with wiring in a power injector. So depending on what you are trying to do, 2 100 ft kits for example might be the move. Good luck!!

@mighty_maxwell
@mighty_maxwell 5 месяцев назад
Does the $1000 include the lights or you have to pay for the lights on top of the $1000? If the latter, $1000 extremely expensive for what I found to be a very manageable DIY install. I am no electrician or expert installer and found this relatively easy. Hardest part will be getting to hard to reach places. But if you have the right equipment and feel comfortable, I think it’s worth saving the money. However if you’re saying it’s only $300 for someone to install, that may be worth not having to hassle with it/ not risk falling off your roof. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

@mighty_maxwell
@mighty_maxwell 8 месяцев назад
You can buy 3 pin splitters off Amazon if you wanted to try those out, but I can’t speak to the efficacy. I would imagine you could run into power draw issues. I think the Pro kit might come with splitters included if it’s a requirement for your setup, so you could always look into that kit’s options.

My power went out the other day and I did not have to go back up and use that switch. So far it’s only been used for the initial sync to my phone. Now you still need it accessible since if you were to change your wifi, I am pretty sure you would have to use it again, but since that is a rare if ever occurrence, being in an inconvenient spot like the attic wasn’t an issue for me. Make sure you sync your phone before installing up there though! Thanks for watching!

I had to reset a few during install and had to either use a backup 3M sticker or put a clip near the light for added reinforcement. If you are doing a complete reinstall though you’ll likely need more extra stickers than the kit provides. You can always go directly to 3M to get similar size and quality stick on. Even if the sizing is off you can cut them down. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

@@dereksafko8144 ~8-10 inches on most of the house, except for above the porch where i was closer to 3-4 inches. I did a single run of lights at the 8-10 inch position, waited until dark to see what it looked like and make sure I liked the effect. Once I confirmed it was good, I did the rest. You'll notice the biggest impact is that the further away from the house you are, the longer the shadow will be before the color light actually hits the house. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Please don't hate me, but due to an Amazon mistake, I received a 150ft set of Govee lights plus 12 solar mini pre-lit Christmas trees for the yard and 50 mini purple butterfly gift soaps which I received instead of my deer and red sleigh ($59 on sale) that I ordered. Unfortunately, my item is now sold out, so they refunded my purchase, and they said I could keep the items I received by mistake as a gift for the inconvenience. I looked them up on Amazon, and all together, they're over $600.00 in value. LOL Anyway I'm thinking about keeping them instead of trying to sell them so I wanted to ask if you have any other tips to secure the wire so they stay attached longer as it doesn't seem like they provide enough clips also I have a couple of triangle areas overlapping so any measuring tips you can suggest? Thank you.

A co-worker of mine who has these actually had the issue of the 3M not working on the coating on his soffit, so he had to use clips at every light. I recommended that he just used any flush outdoor wire clip. I'll link something you could use below, but there are a ton of options so check out similar brackets to see what fits your mounting location. This should do the trick for what you described. In theory yes. I believe the 150 ft Pro kit actually comes with 3 of those. I would however be cautious because after 150 ft you are going to see diminished quality in the lights due to power needs.
