GR86/BRZ RTV ISSUE & CLEANOUT

Actually the RTV might have been an issue, but…not really. The pickup tube has 5 suction surfaces so chances that RTV would block the passage and keep the oil from entering the engine is very small. What you should be worry about is dropping oil pressure during high G right cornering ( 1 to 1.5). In normal driving it is impossible to reach those Gs. But, if you are tracking/auto crossing your car on 200 treadwear tires, then you might run the risk of hurting your engine due to the stickiness allowing your vehicle to reach higher Gs. You’ll make great time on the track for sure, but your vehicle will suffer for it. Failure doesn’t necessarily happen right away, but constantly tracking or auto crossing the vehicle at those constant high G levels will eventually blow your rod bearings. Preparation is key in my opinion. Things you can do that really matter so you can avoid this issue for now are: make sure to have your oil levels at max (check your oil periodically) A lot of spirited driving tends to burn oil. Stick with your pilot sport tires or equivalent. Don’t go 200 treadwears. Install a baffle plate and oil cooler if you plan on tracking and auto crossing. Not all baffle plates are made equal so you’re gonna have to do your own research as some of them don’t work as intended. My car has 56,000 miles. Track, auto cross, Highway and mountain roads miles. I dropped the pan once just to install my baffle plate. Didn’t bother with the RTV. Kudos for being proactive.

RTV is probably not a big issue. Or at least not The issue. Not great, but not likely to cause failure. And it's all over the place, by the way. Not just the oil pan. If you daily drive the thing and take care of it, it will probably last forever, as is. As it turns out, it seems like the problem is more related to high rpm right hand turns. Race situations. For some reason, the oil pressure drops significantly when turning right at high speeds. There is a group of guys working on the issue. No results yet, as far as I know.

I tried taking my GR86 in for the dealership to check it but they refused. They told me if something does happen, my warranty will cover it 🤷‍♂️

Watching these videos just make me sad. It could be true that it does not cause a major problem if you don't track the car, but it still speaks of subpar worksmanship. And a lot of people do want to track this car. As a prev gen owner it's gotten me much less excited about the new one.
