He just tries to be as objective as possible, which I respect. I do think James White should have been Super Bowl 51 MVP because he was just as instrumental to the comeback as Brady
@Call Me, BLEGH Me, If You Wanna Reach Me to be fair fuckin everyone is on PEDs in american sports lol, i dont think it makes a massive difference. still, fuck tom br*dy
29 rush yards on 6 attempts (4.8 average) 2 TD 110 rec yards on 14 rec. (7.9 average) 1 TD A 2pt conversion on a direct stap. I think any other year, he would be a shoe in for it. It was a great performance.
Don't you just love it when gritty, hard working wide receivers win these SB MVP awards? Lookin at you Julian Edelman and (daughter dater) Cooper Kupp.
@@narufan987 It's like when old ESPN commentators would describe white NFL players as hard working, percivering, and a good person on and off the field. There is a joke about this where people call white NFL players "Someone I would let date ny daughter"
That is impressive but it should be noted that all of those yards, except for 1 catch, came from return yards only. he busted 1 great return which made up almost half of those yards. The rest were from the 6 other returns Jones made which were just your typical average returns that pack up yards as a result of getting alot of returns. And 1 56 yards catch. Jones also had a fumble. Flacco had almost 300 yards, 3 tds and 0 pics and 0 fumbles. The second half they mainly just game managed so he was not putting up stats as much as the first half.
@@jackwilson5152 I agree with this completely. It makes so much sense. Joe played a completely masterful game. Executing offensive attack and then you like said managing in the second half. Couldn’t have played a more perfect game. He was definitely the most valuable player that day. The defense that needed a quarterback. On a side related note, I don’t really remember the full game but in a similar situation I always wondered how Desmond Howard beat out Brett Favre for Super Bowl MVP?
I was honestly expecting Aaron Donald or Von Miller to get MVP in this recent superbowl, but Kupp winning it makes sense considering how clutch he was on that final drive
Aaron Donald deserved it imo, as he pretty much was getting double and triple teamed the whole night and still put up insane numbers, but Kupp got the game winning drive so I don't really mind
What I've always loved about Dexter Jackson winning SBMVP was that he will forever be associated with guys from those legendary Bucs defenses, despite not being much but an average role player. I personally would have preferred it go to Brooks... But Jackson winning it shows the romantic side of football... That anyone can show up in the biggest game and be a key contributor.
Though to be fair, if any quarterback deserved to be carried to a title, it was Peyton Manning. After carrying all of those Colts offenses with little to no payoff, it was nice to see him catch a break.
@@vulcanraven9701 SB48 is a good reason why Peyton deserved to get carried when he carried the 2013 squad to the super bowl with 59 TDs in regular season +2 playoff games, only to have the center to snap the ball over his head and offensive line get beat when he throwing the ball so the tipped ball gets picked for a touchdown- not to mention special teams getting up a TD at the start of the second half
@@vulcanraven9701 "choked badly", yeah totally had nothing to do with the oline giving him half a second to pass, and demaryious dropping and fumbling, and that 19th ranked defense playing like trash, and that 15th ranked run game doing nothing.
I was on this hill in 2017 and I’m still on the hill that James White should have won Super Bowl MVP in Super Bowl 51, he had 139 all purpose yards, 14 catches, and 3 total touchdowns… he also ran in a 2 point conversion and the game winning touchdown
Brady gave his MVP cars in 49 and 51 to Butler and White. Not sure about the Tampa one since by then I was better at tuning out the constant praise for every little thing he ever did.
I wouldn't say the ONLY. If he had put up his usual modest stat lines instead en route to three SB wins, he still gets in because A) QB for three SB champs, and 2) a Dallas Cowboy. Plus he had that no-nonsense demeanor that OG sportswriters orgasmed about.
@@RicardoAGuitar Ok yeah I suppose he could have played a bit worse and still won 3 (probably 2 though; do much less in the 92 NFCCG and they lose that one) and people would treat it the same, as we've seen with Tommy where it doesn't matter how he plays, just that his team wins (also more relevant in CCGs than SBs). But we agree in principle, it just depends on how you read my post lol
@Fries I'm not concerned with his volume stats because, of course, great O-line and possible GOAT RB, you didn't need 300 yards and 4 TDs from Aikman. But with the advantages he had, and the physical gifts that he had, his efficiency should have been MUCH better
I watched Super Bowl 3 and Joe Namath played pretty good even by today standards. He had 3 drops and otherwise was on the money for over 70% of his attempts. He also made some pretty good off platform throws and showcased his strong arm. He had 1 “bad” pass I felt like and 1 really good pass. Most of the plays were easy routes taken because of the way the defense played them.
If only the colts played Johnny U the whole game and not just the 4th quarter already down 16, he was injured during the season but was cleared to play in the super bowl and by the time he finally got to play he got them to score their only points, and he almost got the same stats as Namath in a quarter of a game, Namath didn’t deserve the mvp and his running back Matt snell should’ve gotten it, Matt snell had 160 all purpose yards against the best defense in football that year, almost as much as namath, and didn’t turn the ball over, Namath is hands down the Worst super bowl mvp ever
@@johnbeck2837 Watch the game, he realistically should’ve had a 70%+ completion with a good amount of yardage. It’s very easy to look at stats but in terms of film and analysis I thought he played pretty good. Certainly nowhere near the worst we’ve seen from a SBMVP. He contributed a good amount on their scoring drives and considering he played in an under center era with minimal spread and quicker pressure which lowers the quality of targets I can say that’s enough. Individually based on games I’ve seen from 60s/70s Quarterbacks he is easily Top 5 for that era.
SB 51 should’ve gone to James White. He had crazy yards, more points scored than any other player in SB history, and single-handedly carried the Patriots to the win. It was a really stupid decision for Brady as MVP, and even Brady himself said that James White should have won it.
I don't know about stupid. Brady broke the records for attempts, completions, and passing yards in that Super Bowl. Yes, he had a pick 6 in the first half, but he later threw for 2 touchdowns, a 2-pt conversion, and White's game-winning touchdown was on a lateral from Brady. I think it was defensible.
@@matthewthayer9316 It was 100% name value. James White set the Super Bowl records for points and receptions, scored the game winning TD that involved going through two guys, and was consistently open throughout the game. It’s also not like Brady was perfect in the second half, as he nearly threw 3 picks in a row on their final scoring drive. It’s kind of a toss up, but I would have given it to White for being the Pats best weapon all game. I wear his jersey with pride
Can we just give Bart Starr more credit where credit is due? The guy won 5 Championships in 7 years in an era where QB's could get murdered. I know he won't though because of Lombardi and all the other hall of famers he played with.
It's a cliche but Starr's true value can be found in his leadership and ability to call a game. He was one of the few - maybe even the only - player Lombardi wouldn't chew out (publicly) and he called his own game. This was a man who only lost one post season game in his career as a starter and was so revered by his peers they named the "Good Guy Award" after him.
It’s simply insane that Nick apparently just decided that the 2017-18 NFCCG & SBLII were going to be, by far, the two best games of his career. 7 Touchdown’s certainly nice, but the 2013 Raiders sucked all kinds of a••.
@@ainampmav Well, how many people start showing their age at 42, show it for most of their age 43 season, and then play like they're ten years younger at age 44 without better living through chemistry? This wasn't the TB12 diet, it was the HGH diet. Hopefully, someone finally catches him.
@Call Me, BLEGH Me, If You Wanna Reach Me The evidence is there. The only question is if the NFL is willing to say it after 20 years of building this guy up.
John Stallworth should have won it in SB14. Bradshaw had 3 picks and Stallworth has well over 100 yards, the go ahead touchdown, plus another huge spectacular catch on the game sealing drive
Dude...you had to be there. Otis Anderson kept the high powered Bills offense off of the field. I think they set a record for the longest drive in SB history. Honestly, the OL should have gotten the award, or Parcells. The game plan was amazing.
That drive is a symbol for what I like in an offensive: a mix of running and passing, clutch in third down, controlling the clock, and ultimately punching it in for six. That along with that defensive performance - it's no wonder why BB's gameplan ended up in Canton.
Ummm Belichick should have gotten the MVP. What that defense did holding that powerful K Gun offense that put up 51 points the previous game in the AFC championship game was phenomenal.
Brady is that guy that found 6 silver dollars and knew to sell them on the internet instead of buy a burger with them to get multiples times the worth in profit.
as theqbschool just pointed out yesterday, nfl quarterbacking is easier in every non personnel aspect... close hashes make short passes really really easy but then u factor in the talent of defenses... qbschool didn't say that exactly, but it's implied
Barry your standards are too high for RB efficiency...if an RB can average a first down every three carries and sustain that for ~30 carries/~150 yards, that alone will win you the game most of the time, especially in previous eras. Can't ask for much more than that
Shout out to Jake Delhomme in Super Bowl 38. Threw for 3 TD’s no picks and 323 yards in a game where the panthers just came short in a loss that wasnt his fault
Great video, btw video idea: A video on how ridiculous it is to compare Lebron leaving Cleveland to Miami vs KD’s OKC to Golden state situation. I see it so much in basketball circles and when you apply context to it, it’s not even remotely close .
"A classic tom brady performance, he was bad for three qtrs, and then made the plays to win it at the end of the game" this is how I describe Tony Romo and dak Prescott
I remember growing up with people saying that Tony Romo was a choker in clutch situations. I also remember absolutely dreading December because that's where potential playoff seasons went to die under Romo
Great video #hero. Gonna miss the nfl reviews looked forward to them every week, would love to see a review of each series in the nba playoffs in a few months time
Imagine having two pick 6's in a Superbowl and not being the MVP. Both Malcolm Butler and Brady should of been SB MVP in that game against Seattle cause Brady did dice up the LOB in that 4th quarter.
Absolutely. When you consider his three touchdowns, that crucial 2pt conversion, and the fact he had over 100 yards receiving, James White was the unsung hero of that game
@@Ultimatecheezeburger Lmfao White broke and tied multiple SB records that game - Most receiving yds for an RB - Broke Thomas’ record for most receptions - Tied record for most TDs along with Terrell Davis - Tied for most receptions in a game in NFL playoff history (not just SB) Quit forgetting what non QBs do. Shit like this is why Barry’s channel exists
I’ll vouch for Super Bowl 12. That game was absolutely DOMINATED by the Dallas Defense. That’s an A+ there. Also for Super Bowl 22? Timmy Smith ran for over 200 yards in that one. Probably should’ve gone to the entire offensive line.
3:11 I would’ve given it to Art Shell The raiders O line handling the purple people eaters was why Davis and Stabler shined. Shell specifically shut Jim Marshall down to the point that Marshall did not get a single tackle the entire game.
Prior to getting to the SB, Flacco's playoff run was memorable and rather bizarre on a few levels so getting SB MVP makes sense though it should've went to Jacoby Jones. Not complaining tho, a win's a win
1 catch for a 56 yard td, and a fumble should have gotten super bowl mvp? Lol what? Flacco had 3 tds 0 pics. Also was not bizarre, Flacco was dominant in playoffs in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
For Super Bowl 41 the MVP should’ve been Colts Safety Bob Sanders who had a Forced Fumble and Int. Both of which were huge plays that got the Colts extra opportunities on Offense.
