Following a broadcast of the 1981 military comedy "Stripes" it's a trailer for next Saturday's film "The French Connection 2", voiced by Jim Pope.
Then it's good old Colin Weston appearing in-vision to promote "Jaws 2" and to introduce prog rock gods Genesis, with a recording made in 1972 for Belgian television promoting "Nursery Cryme".
The songs Pete, Tony, Mike, Phil and Steve played were "The Fountain of Salmacis", "Twilight Alehouse", "The Musical Box" and "Return of the Giant Hogweed". ("Twilight Alehouse" being the odd one out, as it was not released on any Genesis album, but eventually saw release as the B-side of "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)"). You see how quickly we reach tangents in these liner notes, don't you?
There is a short break in the middle for a Public Information Film about the dangers of throwing a lit cigarette on an upholstered chair.
After the band have finished, we're back to Fluff as he introduces himself as the voice of the trailer, previewing such delights as "Child's Play" with Michael Aspel, the aforementioned "Jaws 2", "Room at the Bottom" with James Bolam and Keith Barron (and co-written by Ray Galton) and "The South Bank Show" on John Lennon - I think this may be the one that focuses on a ballet about Lennon's life. Please Comment below to either confirm this or to correct me.
Then it's a plug for the first programme of Sunday, which is "Fraggle Rock". We go into the weather and Fluff doesn't, erm, fluff his closing link, which isn't like him!
And we go into the clock and the Autumn Granada ident, along with that lovely Keith Mansfield theme.
And last of all, CW tells us of the Independent Local Radio stations broadcasting throughout the night (from my other closedown, you can see three other ILR stations have started - joining Radio City from Liverpool and Picadilly Radio from Manchester are Red Rose Radio from Preston, Signal Radio from Stoke and Marcher Radio from Chester). Finally CW reminds us to turn the set off.
