They not in the HoS because of Terry Knight and how he pissed off Rolling Stone Mag which control the HoS. Those jerk keep Deep Purple out for more then 10 years "Claiming" they were a one hit wonder. What BS over the top. I could not believe it, What was that one hit? Hush (68), All the song released from Machine Head? Or Made in Japan? They just a bunch of tramps that don't know crap about music.

One of the most underrated bands of the 60's and 70's. They only had a couple of songs make it to the radio for air play when they had dozens of awesome ones. They were considered a "garage band" or "underground". But GFR sold out Shea Stadium in less than 24 hours. Faster than the Beatles. Thank you for reacting.

My older brother was sent to Vietnam for his Sr trip. My brother and I were in charge of his vinyl collection. Grand Funk Railroad there were several. At 9years old I couldn't wait to get home and get chores done Grab your snack. Put on the headphones and play this from the Red Album. On live versions this song can go 12:36. A brother reviewing this exact video Started screaming TARZAN TARZAN ! Critics HATED this band. In the Rolling Stone a critic wrote " the bass is too fuzzy ". They had Platinum Albums.

You rarely see a lead singer play lead guitar. It's really hard for men more than woman. If you watch Eric Clapton play guitar singing Layla you will notice that when he is singing he is only stroming the guitar. Someone else is playing the difficult part. He will then pick up the difficult part for the solo. With this band there are only 3 so there is no-one else that can play lead guitar while singing. During the harmonica the only guitar was the bass and he worked his ass off. For them to have this much going on it is truly pure talent. Mark Farner is years older than me so when they did this in 1969 I was a senior in HS so they were one of my favorites.

Great Video! 🚂 💨 🇺🇸 GFR SHOULD BE IN THE R & R HALL OF FAME! 🚂 💨 🇺🇸 Between 1969 and 1972 Grand Funk earned 8 Gold albums in a row without the benefit of a top 20 hit. Since then 3 of those albums have gone Platinum and 2 more have reached Double Platinum. After 72 they went on to have major commercial success with 6 top 20 hits in which 2 of those hits reached number 1!! Many groups have stated they were influenced by Grand Funk. Mark, Don & Mel!! And Craig too! 🎹 🚂 💨 🇺🇸

thx for the reaction - 1st time on your channel - GFR was the most important band in my teen years in late 60's and for learning guitar - you owe it to yourself to listen to the studio version of this song, or anything else off of the red Grand Funk album, they were so unique, each musician had his part/place in the overall sound - and to appreciate their versatility, please react to studio version of "Closer To Home / I'm Your Captain" , probably their most well known song.

While checking out the early Grand Funk videos I stumbled upon Kristen Kali. I’m not quite sure what your point or intentions are but just know that you have just been schooled by one of the greatest bands of the era. It’s pure and original hardcore funk rock that electrifies the mind and rips through the depths of your soul with mind numbing intensity. From your somewhat subdued reaction, I can only assume that you really were left speechless. And rightfully so because I experienced Grand Funk live in concert at the impressionable age of 16 in 1970 when music of that intensity was a rare and welcome treat compared to the top 40 garbage constantly played on a listening device from back in the day called a radio. The AM band radio which was the lowest primitive form of broadcast media back when rock was like a newborn baby demon on a mission to rob the young of their virgin souls. The “he” you kept referring to is Mark Farner. His powerful vocals awaken the primitive beast in all of us. His masterful guitar work radiates a powerful force directly to a sweet spot in the brain for a rush of endorphins. The result is euphoria and that’s something we all need more of. Combine that with hard hitting unique drum work and the rolling thunder of the bass and call it Grand Funk Railroad. Like I said first thing, I don’t really understand the point, if any that your video is trying to make. I’m not criticizing so no worries about that. Looking at you while you look at the video is actually pretty sexy. Your good taste in classic hard rock makes it all worthwhile and totally cool. Check out “In Need” and “Paranoid” in the early videos by Grand Funk. Let me know what you think.

Best live performance I've ever seen -- passionate, intense, hard core blues/funk/rock. None of the 3 had yet reached the age of 21 before they did this performance. It's so cool to see them interacting with each other during this performance. You can see they were having fun, and it's sad that the band ended the way it did. But in any case, I KNOW I will die before I ever see a live performance that equals this one.

GFR sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles ! Mark Farner is a beast of a front-man ! 😎🎸 Soak it up youngsters because there is nothing even close to this around today.... the great live bands are all but gone !
