its not like the fifth sister stab him due to ambitious content, no definitely it be so silly, especially if Obi wan outside Tattoine rescuing some rich adopted kid.
Rupert Friend basically created a new character, his Grand Inquisitor was well played (considering the script he got) but Jason Isaacs gave this character a soul, his perosnality is way more unique in Rebels when in Kenobi he's just that cocky boss character who speaks more than actually does something, also Kenobi is a kids show too, sometimes Rebels were more mature that it
i love how unlike the other inquisitors he uses the double bladed mechanism when he really needs to but mostly sticks to the single bladed. and the best part is he doesnt use his lightsaber as a helicopter to fly
I loved the 'posh British nobleman' energy he had going on, I half expected him to say "Jolly good" and/or "smashing!" at any moment. Pity the live action version had literally none of the qualities that made the GI so great in Rebels.
Even if you’re going to kill an enemy, I suppose some form of politeness could be shown depending on the individuals. Like having respect for another’s resolve, skill, knowledge, character and goals if any of that is worth noting before their ends are met.
@@JustADemon2023 Such respect is just mockery in polite form since murderous intent still remains. The equivalent of telling a dog it is genuinely cute before shooting it in the face.
In my opinion, not really because it shows in his superb dueling skills that screams to you that he had some type of experience, which in all common sense would be of the jedi order in some type of way, but I get what you mean.
@@angelic_disappointment7889 true he doesn't come off like someone Vader just found and train. You could tell he definitely had well skilled training like the Jedi.
"There are some things far more frightening than death" Following his death darth vader uses sith alchemy to trap the grand inqusitor's spirit in a temple preventing him from dying he was not lying
@@TwistedRevan If I recall correctly, Vader trapped the Grand Inquistor's spirit in an old High Republic temple to serve as a sort of guard dog for it. I know Luke encountered him at some point between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
I'd disagree a lot, even though I loved all those villains. The heart of Rebels is absolutely its character development, and the family dynamic of the Ghost crew. Not a single episode is wasted without focusing on its main characters.
The grin, the eyes, the prideful look on his face, the elegance in his fighting style, and the competence of him is what made this character so great. Wish we had this version of him in Kenobi and not what we got.
I enjoy how the Grand Inquisitor is more of the intelligent duelist rather than a superb pilot or Force User, shows what is easily one of the best parts of the franchise. Edit: That’s not to say he isn’t good at the other two, just me loving a good lightsaber fighter.
He really isn't tho. He uses crutches to get an advantage over doufuses like Kanan. As soon as he figured out that Grand Inqusitor is low-skill he just used his reliance on his spinny sword and instantly won.
Grand Inquisitor was my favorite force sensitive villain in Rebels. Clever and calculating. I like the fact he only spins his lightsaber to scare the enemy, it's more psychological. His fighting style reminds me of Dooku's because it's elegant and precise.
Indeed, without his original voice and skinny face he is not intimidating. Edit: Also without his yellow eyes Edit2: I also wanted to hear that different inquisitor lightsaber spinning sound, it is not an issue, but it is so cool that i would be happy if i hear it.
@@joudkahwaji6369 its just a central weak point. A skilled duelist is neither intimidated or disadvantaged against it. Kanan showed how easy it was to destroy it in the final battle with the inquisitor. Meanwhile a typical saber could be avoided by that
@@fornax5798 oh yeah haven't seen bad batch yet but I have seen clips I gotta admit that one was also brutal ( now that I think about it why is it always the animated shows that are brutal when it's so rare in live action nowadays)
Absolutely correct rebels is highly slept on and anyone saying that visions took its self seriously is retarded that show was terrible and poorly written and was literally a comedy show
I feel the Grand inquisitor is a well written villain and looked down upon by many for really no reason, despite him only being an inquisitor he proved time and time again how his skills and battle tactics were on a whole other level than the other inquisitors
Yeah, they should have given him a title that differentiated him from other inquisitors to show that he was above them. Maybe something that showed his status at the same time? 🤔
Jason Isaacs voice for the Grand Inquisitor has that subtly deep bass that makes him menacing. Something that I was awfully missing in the Obi-Wan Kenobi's Grand Inquisitor.
I agree 100%. I love having the same voice actors from the animated series play their action character. Rupert Friend actually isn’t that bad, I think he’s quite good. But the only thing that’s missing is the voice of Jason Isaacs
He’s Intelligent , Elegant , Sophisticated , Has Class , Cold and Calculated , Bold , Calm , Charming , and most importantly a Gentlemen of the Empire . Oh let’s not forget he’s the Grand Sith Inquisitor of course 😉 .
Disney forgot that rushing out a series every year isn't a good thing, after they buggered the last trilogy by rushing it and not doing forward planning.
@@foxtopuscreations6046 To be fair, and I would like to clarify that I am not defending the Kenobi show, but it has been in production for at least two years.
@@zazi5305 Kinda feels even worse that they had 2 years but couldn't spend money on extra makeup. It's fine to defend the show, I hope it will be good, but I won't act like they're really not doing the designs dirty.
@@zazi5305 I am very worried given how almost directionless their most recent show was. But at least Kenobi seems to have clear established villains going forward with the Inquisitors, hopefully they also know what to do with the story.
I know right?? They had a perfectly good actor who has not only shaped the character from the very beginning, but is also already proficient with a sword (having trained in order to portray colonel Tavington or Hook), resembles the character physically a great deal and, oh yeah, SAID HE'D LOVE TO REPRISE THE ROLE IN LIVE ACTION IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY. It seems like madness that he didn't get the job.
@@easternlights3155 they probably picked the more famous actor, like tom holland in uncharted and henry cavill for witcher(although henry's voice and physique are a great fit)
I think if Dooku was still alive, he might had liked the Grand Inquisitor. Or at least have some respect for him since they're kind of similar. But Dooku would had disliked the fact that the Grand Inquisitor not only used a double bladed lightsaber, but that he also doesn't mind using other lightsaber forms. Remember, Dooku HATES the use of double bladed/two lightsabers and have a contempt for form 4 of lightsaber combat.
@@ryanmcgowan417 Well, it's very common knowledge that Dooku is pretty much the quintessential Form II master. So I suppose we can't really blame the Grand Inquisitor's use of other forms.
I swear, this series started as a regular Star Wars themed kids show that progressed with a brutal display of fight scenes, strategic warfare and a heart-crushing ending. Quite a masterpiece.
I mean he is a total dick, but also great strategist and manipulator. He knows all thats is needed for him to know to control others and succed in his goals
What I like is how "stylish" his dueling is, he stands still and confident while fluidly waving and attacking with his saber, its satisfaction to the eye Edit: so I was going to reply to some guy and realised its my comment thread, and I noticed I got 1.5k likes, new record broken boys Edit 2: I'm just going to say I agree with every reply Edit 3: gonna add random edits every now and then Edit 4: like other people mentioned, he really has that count dooku vibe Edit 5: is it just me or is he way more competent and powerful than other inquisitors? Edit 6:: You're dead right mr kemper
@@speakingofgreg Makes sense they are both form 2 users. The only difference is the grand inquisitor sometimes switches to form 1 and 6, while Dooku exclusively uses form 2
The grand inquisitor felt like he was a real threat in Rebels and now in the Kenobi series (first 2 episodes) he feels useless and not that threatening, what's worse is that he was a temple guard once and hunted down Jedi but gets stabbed in the gut like a chump by his subordinate like it was a piece of cake.
@@FieldMarshalYT yeah in Kenobi it feels like they were going for more of a Patient calculating Villian. He gives off more Tarkin Vibes than Inquisitor
"So he called himself Kanan did he? Well it hardly matters now, your turn" I love the fact that this dude is so nonchalant when doing his job of hunting Jedi
The Grand Inquisitor had so much potential! When he died, I felt like he's going to return anyway, as his force can do it, like Maul did and stayed alive after a fall.
@@noahliasam7407 they really could’ve made an animated show for Luke between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi after rebels instead of Resistance.
I legitimately don't know why actors try adding their own touch to already established characters. I mean they're not spin-offs, they're literally the same Canon storyline so consistency matters more than anything. Imagine if the actors for Tarkin in the show tried adding their own touch to the iconic character. I'm so grateful they actually took the time to emulate Peter Cushing accent.
@@veer0522 Yeah, but that's not what he's saying. Remember that Ewan studied his source material *carefully* before putting his own spin on the character. This is why his Kenobi is believably the same person that Alec played. The Grand Inquisitor, on the other hand...
Honestly his final fight with Kanen is still one of the best ones in the series. It's so high stakes, and really good choreography. Also some good dialogue. Rebels has really grown on me lately and I appreciate it more and more for what it is.
Ah, yes, the REAL Grand Inquisitor. Not the fat one that’s in Obi-Wan. (Nothing against the live action actor they picked, I just hate them for not picking this guy, who said he wanted to play him in live action.)
Honestly, I think that rupert friend is a good cast, the actor has a similar face to the grand inquisitor in rebels. The real problem is who design hom in kenoby
16:39 “you have no idea what you’ve unleashed here today…there are some things far more frightening than death!” Even all these years later that gives me chills
Imagine if anakin's force ghost sent luke to a quest to free grand inquisitor from his torment and after freeing him grand inquisitor joins luke's new jedi order as a jedi
In rebels, the Grand Inquisitor was this long faced, eerie, terrifying, and cunning presence. Simon Kinberg (producer for Rebels) describes the inquisitor: "He felt real and human, yet also a little creaturely and terrifying and like he could be part of a nightmare" I don't get any of that from this round, baby faced inquisitor with face paint. I find absolutely nothing intimidating about the character whatsoever. When the grand inquisitor first showed up in rebels, you thought "oh shit the rebels are in trouble". In Obi-Wan, this dude walked in and I laughed when I saw his face
I really enjoyed his appearances in both the comics and the show. Pretty much the only new Inquisitor I liked. I really hope they bring more appearances of him in the comics. Or, maybe in the Kenobi series.
It’s kinda funny that they are bringing him back but just way more inflated. Like they didn’t even need to make his face any longer they could’ve just shaved the actors head and put the tattoos on but they still decided to make his face have a wider width
at 11:22 kanan kicks him in the stomach and stuns him for a short second. Obviously when they made rebels it meant nothing but now after watching kenobi we can assume that kanan got him right in the stab wound from Reva, which is why it hurt more than usual.
Inquisitor: "Your master will die, your friend will die, and everything you hoped for..." Me: "...will die?" Inquisitor: "... will be lost." Me: "Goddammit!"
One of the better villains of Rebels... dunno if that says much but as someone who watched through the entire show and didn't like it, the Grand Inquisitor was enjoyable.
Grand Inquisitor: Hey Darth Maul, can your lightsaber do this?! *Spins it* Darth Maul: *turns around and spin his lightsaber with just one hand while taking a drink* No.... Grand Inquisitor: *Turns his back and muffled in annoyance* Freaking smartass...
Roles: The Grand Inquisit is one of the three main antagonists (alongside Darth Vader and Grand Admiral Thrawn) from 2014-2018 Star Wars: Rebels serving as the main antagonist for season 1, a posthumous antagonist for the remainder of the series.
Never cared much for rebels but as a fencer I appreciate his dueling style. It's very clearly refined and actually resembles real sword fighting in some ways. I think I saw a fully fleshed out parry and riposte at one point lol. Normal light saber fighting is dandy but I appreciate those little details
The Grand Inquisitor was a Temple Guard who saw Ahsokas trial, noticed the flaws of the Jedi Order and switched sides. In other words: "Hmm... These guys arent as nice as people tell. Lets side with the guy that wants to kill them all."
Remember when Luke was cool? Remember when Han was cool? Remember when Boba was cool? They wont stop until they ruin everyone. They're well on their way of doing it with Kenobi too.
ive come across this guy during my studies of my favorite star wars spcies; the pau'an, and this guy is absolutley AWESOME! he has the coolest lightsaber ive ever seen
Mannnnnnn they really dropped the ball with the villans on this show. We go from the top inquisitor in the empire to (awesome) to a pair of inferior inquisitors that don't pose a threat. To Thrawn which was done well but falls victim to the childish nature of the show to... a governor and a short alien assassin
@@granalmirantethrawn2972 those don't count they are movie villans and we know what happens to them so it doesn't really matter what our good characters do
Thrawn was really well executed imo. Also Vader and Palpatine were most definitely antagonists in the show. Also, I think I’m one of the few that liked Pryce, mostly because of her backstory in the Thrawn novel.
I heard that the actor on Rebels purposefully didn’t watch Rebels so he could have his own interpretation of the character. If that is true, it was a mistake. I wish they’d just got Issacs to do it
